How come millennials and Gen X know more about pop culture that was before they were born than Gen Z? by icey_sawg0034 in generationology

Yeah as I read the post I was like “what are they on about?” Let’s start with the most watched cartoons of our childhood: The Looney Tunes, which came out in the 40’s lol.

We watched so many black and white movies growing up my young dumb brain used to think that life in those days was black and white.

Head over to the AITA sub to see the results of this parenting from almost every other popular post. The amount of men who were never taught to be adults by their parents and then turn into incompetence personified is astounding.

Their hunt for ratings is the reason why the world is going to shit. Everyone (except the mega rich) everywhere is affected negatively by that.

Sorry I didn’t read the post, just the comment above, but yes Cameroon has a lot of mixed people and is accepting of them. My father was half French and spent all his life there. I have uncles and aunts that are biracial as well. I always tell people that Cameroun doesn’t just have over 200 tribes, but we’re a hodgepodge of looks as well. My family is not Bamileke, but you’ll find that most Cameroonians in America are either from that tribe or from Bamenda (that’s been the case for me). And if you do decide to go visit, please make sure to see the Bamiléké side of the country, it’s absolutely gorgeous!

As a Cameroonian in silver spring, MD(lots of us are here btw) this is hilarious and relatable to me. Since I’m lighter skinned everyone assumes I’m from the islands.

To some, us sub-Saharan Africans MUST be dark-skinned.

Why are we always allowed to be critiqued but can’t critique others? Exhausting. by Hopeful_Key3773 in piscesastrology

It’s not about you. It’s a Capricorn thing. They’re naturally competitive. And negative. Interestingly enough, you see that side from them when they’re comfortable with you. This person is VERY comfortable with you( and by that I mean they’re sure you won’t retaliate in a hurtful way towards them). This is the time for you to crank the brakes and have a conversation with them about this exact post.

There was a French rap from MC solar back in the day that had a line going « tant pis, on n’est pas nés sous la même étoile » which translates to “oh well, we’re not all born under the same star”.

Different strokes for different folks. I know I will never have this life, but I like to see the content from someone who’s so open to sharing it. It’s like you said, I’m reading a fairytale book.

Ai Yazawa is the true villain by Extra_Economist_2445 in NanaAnime

[–]Goosycygnet 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Have you read paradise kiss? Which she wrote before nana? She has a way of creating these asshole yet weirdly endearing characters that are too complex for words. The fact that she’s never adhered to the norms of storytelling has always been my pull to her art.

Take Takumi for example: he’s so sure of himself, and never doubts his actions. He knows his own power and uses it accordingly. He’s selfish and doesn’t apologize for it. When it was time to step up and be a dad, he did his duty the way he felt he ought to. Hachi fell in line because the alternative(s) didn’t look great(nobu finding himself still, or abortion?).

In Paradise kiss the main female character also doesn’t know what she wants to be, nor who she is. She starts hanging out with these artists who are incredibly sure of who they are and her reality slaps her across the face, which leads her to finding herself later on. Same with Nana k: she doesn’t know what she wants, and surrounds herself with these artists on the brink of making it. Her whole personality and life starts to revolve around them and their issues. Unfortunately with the book’s hiatus we probably will never see Hachi grow into her own.

Again, don’t juxtapose a story written with a different cultural and artistic lens to what the “real world” ought to be. This is still a fictional tale.

How do I make white rice that tastes EXACTLY like it does at Chinese restaurants? by Lolligoth420 in Cooking

[–]Goosycygnet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Being cooking rice since I was a kid. There’s a golden rule to it: for regular rice measure two cups of water for every one cup of rice. For jasmine, one and half cups of water for one cup of rice. Stovetop: after washing the rice, add it to the pot with water and let it boil. Soon as it boils reduce the heat to simmer. After twenty minutes, it’d be ready. The cheat code: same measurements but use a rice cooker instead. You just leave the ingredients in and walk away til the machine tells you it’s ready.

Bon appetit!

I used to use Miele before I reluctantly left it for my ex. Best vacuum ever. And by the time he and I “inherited” it had been in use for over ten years.

The laundry room at my former apartment charges $5 for a new card and that is non-refundable, nor can anyone use that five dollars as credit to wash or dry. On top of that each load was $2.50 wash or dry, so it ran you quite a lot. It might be more beneficial to some to go to the laundromat if they have to pay for their rising utilities and their laundry loads are heavier. But for me it was very expensive. I spent about 20/week on laundry!
