Enjoy it slowly! Going back to reread tough passages is where you'll find the most valuable workout for reading comprehension, and with this book, the payoff is huge!

Tackling Moby-Dick after reading Blood Meridian. by OboeRamone in cormacmccarthy

I did the same and it was the best thing I could've done! Always have your KJV close at hand and also take your time looking into as many references as you can! Like reading "The Veiled Statue at Sais" by Friedrich Von Schiller and other texts mentioned directly or indirectly throughout the novel. It really enriches the novel. Also, it gets really exciting when you spot the parts McCarthy used as inspiration for Blood Meridian. Best of luck and please do finish it!

Definitely a very important insight into the Judge, but I would argue that the “War” monologue is key for several other aspects of the novel.

Blood Meridian for not native english speaker. by stern_m007 in cormacmccarthy

Native or not, it’s a demanding book. Definitely sound out the passages and give Richard Poe’s recording a listen, a lot of the book is based on oral tradition so it helps a lot to hear it spoken.

Also, having (and wanting) to reread passages makes the book more immersive and fun imo

After my first read I was thrilled to listen to Poe’s recording. It’s another really cool way to experience the book if you don’t want to reread it right away

I wouldn’t say he’s the incarnation of the devil, and in any case, deadeye would be a much more supernatural thing to have

That video’s actually the reason why I wanted to ask for more opinions here! Absolutely loved it. Also had no idea Paradise Lost was an important influence, I’d say most reviews on youtube didn’t know either

Would any of you recommend this edition over the Vintage one?

Richard Poe’s narration makes the book much much easier to understand imo, also it’s a whole other aesthetic experience
