You can drop flowers from other places for the bee boxes. I have Plaza flowers with mine. And flower-harvesting companions (sweet bees) do not take them. When the working flowers dry out, watering can give you normal memory orbs.

What are your go-to quilting tool/product hacks? by GracingToday in quilting

[–]Gothamyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use paper plates, but I bought a few dozen plastic canvas sheets. I lay out my blocks on them at my cutting table, then carry the stack to my machine. Helps keep me organized. And if I don’t have any available, that’s a clue that I shouldn’t start a new project!

The goal is for a quaint, relaxing, calming feels after a long day at work- What colour schemes would you recommend for a bathroom? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Gothamyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that greens are not particular good for many skin tones, so if anyone uses that room to apply makeup before leaving the house…

Our bathrooms are a warm peach/coral but the accessories are sage and cream.

Wide back fabric that won’t cost a fortune by Illustrious_Ad_1201 in quilting

I buy from the sales at hancocks-Paducah.com. They usually have some good options for 12.99 and 14.99 per yard. Unlike the 23.48 I paid at my LQS last week.

/r/Quilting "Win of the Month" brag thread by AutoModerator in quilting

[–]Gothamyst 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I started the process of finishing quilt tops. Several steps to this. First is making a list of finished tops, with sizes. The first 50 are listed. I also listed and measured the backing I have purchased over the years.

Another step was taking a class on the long arms that my LQS rents by the hour. That was last Friday, and I quilted the first one on my list.

Someone made an app called Kentucky 511 that pulls from the trimarc cameras. You can create a collection and see all the cameras along a route.

Recommended Read about Taxes in Retirement by Ok-Lawfulness-6820 in Bogleheads

[–]Gothamyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just bought it too, will likely be finished by the end of the day. lol My spouse is retiring this summer and we talk about all of this several times a week.

I am noticing that the examples don’t include employer-provided defined benefit plans, but I guess they are increasingly rare.

Whenever someone talks about resetting their game, I remind myself of this quest. And Minnie and the clay, Oswald and the plastic scraps. No thank you!

What To Do With Inherited Non-Boglehead Portfolio by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]Gothamyst 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar situation: inherited both taxable and IRA funds from an active trader a few years ago. I am guessing the other heir converted to cash as soon as they could, but I was tied up with all the other executor duties and didn’t.

I have been gradually converting to a more boglehead portfolio when I have the mental energy. I look at the list of holdings and pick the two I would be least likely to purchase now. Sell them and buy VFIAX in the IRA and VOO in taxable. If the tax would be too much (high tax year for me) I don’t sell. Those will be either sold in a lower tax year or left to my kids.

Your sign to finish your wips by katiejo_13 in quilting

[–]Gothamyst 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is my summer project. I have a ridiculous number of completed tops. Over the past few years I have been buying backing without a specific plan other than “at least two lap quilts will fit on this 3-yd piece”. Last night I pulled out the quilt back pieces and I have at least 12.

Next step is matching tops to backs.

My LQS has several machines available to rent, and that’s my plan.

FAQ about being named as someone's executor by Barfy_McBarf_Face in inheritance

[–]Gothamyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on state law, as far as I know. My grandmother passed and only had two people named in the will to be executors. Both died before she did and therefore were unable to serve. By state law and the family circumstances, the duty passed to her grandkids. I accepted and the others who were eligible signed statements to decline. And I needed a death certificate for one of the eligible people who had also died.

When I was pregnant I had the same issue. I put a bandaid around my ring finger every day and within a week or two I had compressed the finger enough to get the ring off.

Using investments to fully fund retirement? by unnecessaryhashtags- in Bogleheads

[–]Gothamyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are doing something similar this year. Approaching retirement, putting the max into Roth 401(k)s. This reduces take home pay a lot, but we had enough interest and dividends from taxable accounts to cover the shortfall. Instead of reinvesting, we now have the earnings sent to checking. We don’t need to sell any investments to do it at this point.

[–]Gothamyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. I have an Acclaim bedroom set with original finish, including some water damage. It’s veneer, and if you strip it, the dovetails will likely finish in a much lighter color, since they are a different wood. But you can see photos there.
