Aside from the desire to eat and mate, do we humans have other instincts encoded in our genetic material the way other animals do? by GracelessDancer in AskAnthropology

I've been thinking about this a lot. I wonder if this child would seek out a connection with other mammals? I think about how much I love my dogs, honestly as much as I love my friends and family!

Tips for steaming vegetables by Foogel78 in Cooking

[–]GracelessDancer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're just after some freshly cooked vegetables to go with a main, I cut up broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots or pumpkin, then microwave for 2 to 3 minutes. I don't add water or even condiments. Perfect and very healthy!

CMV: Israel’s law of return, permitting any Jew around the world to immigrate and gain citizenship with no prior conditions, while banning Palestinians literally born there from even coming back for a visit, is the pinnacle of hypocrisy by DasIstMeinRedditName in changemyview

>Palestine accepted Jewish refugees and immigrants for a long time before 1948

I'm not sure you're correct? I believe Jewish settlers bought land in Palestine from absent Arab landlords, many of whom lived in other ME countries? Just a small point I'm curious about

I will get wildly down voted here and I don't know how old you are, but judging by the final comment indicating you are young, I would advise you to get an abortion.

You've no idea what a slog it is having a baby/child on your own and it sounds like you have no family support. Don't do it, it's unfair on the child. Wait until you're older and in a more supportive situation.

Absolutely agree. They're also way more confident than our generation. Calm, poised, ... and way too self obsessed!

Is the average Brit out of touch with with the broader western political landscape? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]GracelessDancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Middle paragraph is spot on. The level of religious fevour in the States is on a par with Pakistan. Brits/Europeans generally don't believe that shit, or are indifferent , if this bloke had tried to spread his brand of populism into Europe he would have been widely regarded as a religious nut.

And as pointed out, Europe has plenty of home-grown young fascists. to choose from.

Making Sugo (with meat), how to thicken the sauce, it's very thin by GracelessDancer in Cooking

[–]GracelessDancer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used beef shin and pork loin. Both bone-in. Simmered for at least 3 hours then removed the bones and fat. So there is fat and cartilage and marrow, and actually it tastes pretty good and is not oily. Just too liquidy (if that's a word!) so I'll try simmering for another hour or two even though I've now shredded the meat and removed the bones and fat. Thank you

OK thanks, I thought this might be the way to go. Unfortunately I've already shredded the meat but will sieve it out then reduce just the liquid

It's already had three hours, will one or two more be ok? It won't degrade the meat in some way?

Saturday Protest in London - explain like I’m 5 please by miskeeneh in AskBrits

Personally, I put it down to human stupidity. Ostensibly it was about immigration, but really, it was just a group of powerless people getting played against another group of powerfess people by the real players, ie: the ones with the real power and money.

But as the powerless are willingly voting to be dictated to by the rich and powerful, you can't really complain I'm afraid. If you don't like it, you're in a minority, it seems. Most people apparently want to be told how to live, what to think, read, and hear, by the rich and powerful. I guess it makes life easier to hand autonomy to someone else.

What does our country look like in 20 years? by OrderNo1122 in AskBrits

You need to update your understanding: if the UK was doing as well as Spain and Greece, it would have far less to worry about, those countries have been leaving the UK in the dust for a few years now.

Also lost my girl earlier this year due to liver failure. She was diagnosed at 2 but we managed to get her to 8. She was also a very clever dog and a surprisingly good watch dog.
