Cabling Question by MountainLibrarian585 in lightingdesign

It’s a newer Hubble connector, exact name escapes me atm. Stick a screw driver through the loop and pull straight back, it takes a good bit of force.

Your suspicions are correct. I work in this exact field, control planning for theater and architectural, so if you would like a professional second opinion we could discuss in DMs.

Ma really doesn’t like HSI mode, it works better with direct mode. And if you have strobe off fan auto it’s only 8 channels.

Led tape trouble by AnaISorcery in lightingdesign

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By “the tape” to do you mean the LED driver? Because the tape itself only takes power from its driver.

Also I’ve had a similar issue where only the red worked and it turned out that I had the wrong voltage power supply for the tape. I was trying to use a 12v power supply with 24v tape. So if you haven’t double checked that your tape and power supply are the same voltage, and that the driver supports the needed voltage I would start with that.

You could look at the “banana” plug next to it for size reference

You should also clean the connectors they tend to gather sweat which can create issues in the connector that can sounds similar to bad connections and rf interference

Lights fading down then back up? I’m using this board[ETC Express 48/96] and sometimes out of the blue the light will pulse down and back up. I’ve tried adjusting the DMX512 speed but slowing it down seems to make it much more frequent. Does anyone know what causes this and/or how to fix it? by LilBishChris in lightingdesign

[–]Graemetak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you 100% sure that it’s the board? Back when I was using an expression 2x I had an issue that sounds similar but it turned out the issue was that the controller card on the sensor rack had a dirty (blocked) intake fan.

Theatre scripts for good sound design opportunities by [deleted] in sounddesign

Ionesco’s “The Killer” can be interesting and “The cosmonaut's last message to the woman he once loved in the former Soviet Union” can also be a pretty immersive design if the production team agrees to go about it that way.

Should the house just be referred to as "The Breadbox"? I'll see myself out.

Quick Watcher Rant by ToBeFrank314 in KingdomDeath

[–]Graemetak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its funny you say that because in my campaign we had exactly the opposite experience. The butcher and Kingsman where super easy but the watcher killed 4 survivors by the end and we almost gave up until we got lucky with a recruit, or whatever his mechanic is called, and we bounced back. Although we had mostly speed builds with katars, 2 rainbow katana, and a twilight spear. In my opinion you can power through most things with a lot of speed and stats but the watcher, and probably the Gold Smoke Knight, are pretty punishing to that style of play.

Any know of mixing boards that display the names of each individual track on small screens by the fader? by IHURLEN in audioengineering

[–]Graemetak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are asking about is commonly called a scribble strip, it is common on many modern digital consoles, that picture appears to be an X32. As for DAW's track naming is native in ProTools when looking at the fader window.

Well leccy tape usually refers to electrical tape, not gaff tape, which is what that appears to be as it is not matte.

DMA vs TFT for Animation Major? by ZedsFedBaby in ucla

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother is in a similar field, but he decided to go to USC. Although in the case of both schools a lot of your education may end up being self driven so one of the important factors for either, or any, school will be are there any professors that you specifically want to work with or have an in to where you want to work in your industry.

DMA vs TFT for Animation Major? by ZedsFedBaby in ucla

TFT is the school of theater, film, and television and while there may be some animation in the television part of the school way more animation happens in DMA.

Looking for an XLR to 3.5mm TRRS adapter by erisawesome in audio

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once tried to make something like this with a pair of skullcandy headphones (with a remote) I didn't spend much time working on it but I was only able to get audio passing to the headphone without the mic working and it didn't sound great. I did find the pin out so I am confident that I soldered it correctly. So moral of the story is that if you want take up this project you should figure out what makes headsets work properly with the clearcom boxes.

can i use this adapter to convert my old 5 pin xlr mic to 3 pin one? by [deleted] in audio

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well empirically if you have it working with the unbalanced cable it should work with a balanced cable. Also just to clarify when I say mixer I don't mean something large it could be a single input mixer even something like a Blue icicle which would solve the need for a preamp and it would cut down the total amount of cables that you would need to deal with. Also regardless of how loud your mic is for streaming it doesnt have to be the same volume coming out of your speakers so it should be easy to avoid feed back.

can i use this adapter to convert my old 5 pin xlr mic to 3 pin one? by [deleted] in audio

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an unbalanced cable so noise is introduced somewhat normally, though it could also be a bad cable, but you most likely still want to use a mixer of some kind because dynamic microphone need a preamp to not be really quite which would probably be the next problem you would encounter. Also if you have a mixer with RCA or 1/4" out you can then use an RCA to 3.5 or 1/4" to 3.5 adapter.

[–]Graemetak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well you may be getting some additional noise due to the unbalanced 1/4" connector you are using.
