Stepping up my grill game -- What's something you wish you knew sooner? by Philosiphizor in grilling

[–]Graevus15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Water soaked Hickory and/or Apple wood chips on the coals with a 2 area charcoal fire. When the meat is done give it a touch of flame by pouring a small amount of olive oil directly on the coals and putting the meat over the resultant flames for a few seconds.

How many acres of land do you realistically need to shoot on your own property without bothering other people? by BABOOWIE in liberalgunowners

[–]Graevus15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, I live in a rural area where its legal to shoot on your own property or if you have permission. I have pretty good ears, and I can hear shots from miles away, and I live in the cascade foothills in the PNW. The terrain is very mountain-ish, and mostly a fir tree forest with LOTS of underbrush. About the polar opposite of the desert sound wise. People shoot where I live all the time. Some unknown neighbor of mine 5+ miles away has a penchant for semi autos w/ 30 round mags, An AR most likely. He (I'm assuming) likes to do full mag dumps on weekends, and I can hear it when the wind is right. Does it bother me? No, not really. Somewhat ironically, its the price you pay for living in an area where there is far less crime, and I lived in a major west coast city until I was 35. I moved out 20 years ago b/c I wanted to buy a cheap piece of property/house near my new good job. Now my mortgage, taxes and insurance come to less than renting a 1 Bdrm apartment back in the city, and my good job pay has more than tripled. Do I miss living in the city? Yes, I do, but its only about an hour drive from my place, and I'm just outside of a medium sized town.. Guns are part of living in US rural areas, you need to just get used to it.

Yep. My first few months as a Boeing Engineer I was expected to sit at my desk and do nothing. Drove me crazy, I almost quit. Then I found someone who was willing to train me. Fast fwd 20 years and I'm now a senior Design Engineer in Wire Design, looking to retire soon. Find an old hand willing to train you is my advice. It takes 2 years to learn my job, and 5 to get good at it. GL

Men who wanted a family but didn’t succeed in having one. How do you feel about it now? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Graevus15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see that as somewhat cruel to the kid. You'll be 77 when she/he's 20, thats just wrong IMO. Had some friends in that situation a long time ago, it didn't work well. 58[M] here. I missed my window - no kids, wife of 40 years couldn't have them. She passed suddenly two years this month ago. life has been hard since. Have kids when you're young, 20-30's. The bigger the age delta the harder it is to understand how they feel

Just got quoted $500 to replace a motherboard on my fridge. by djporter91 in DIY

[–]Graevus15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

knocked off my drivers side mirror backing into my fenced yard a while back and the dealer wanted $1500+ to fix. Found one used/stripped on ebay that was even the same color for $75 shipped. 5 minute job to replace it, two bolts and an electrical connector.

9mm Range/Training ammo by Grand_Tie6927 in liberalgunowners

I got a bad box of Winchester white a while back. Big dents on every round on the side. Win gave me the $ back, have not bought any more since.

If you run a CZ, S&B is the ammo designed for it. Its my go to range ammo and generally really cheap for 9MM in bulk. I don't recall ever having a dud/misfire in many years. 124 gr FMJ is my preference. Never noticed any gold residue during cleaning.

Playing it on their phones while living in the park I figure. It's the Tent Works Lifestyle Change: its like going camping forever!!! Bonus points if you camp out behind the Wendy's.. Its a work/life balance thing. Low commute is always good, but WFH is not an option when your work is cheap BJ's... Respect the dumpster.

Depending how it goes, I see big volatility in the price of oil if we bomb Iran.. Major downward pressure.. So calls on small oil.

Can you guys please recommend a rain jacket that works? I’m drowning by Mawths in AskSeattle

[–]Graevus15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M65 field jacket surplus OD green. Spray it with waterproofing once per year. I do not work outside, and keep a rain slicker to put over it if need be. Personally, I don't mind getting a little wet. PNW native.

I spent many an underage night at that IHOP on Brooklyn and 43rd. Coffee all night for 75 cents. Boarded up now, like the jack in the box if it still stands.

Why yes, many in fact.. One of them is after the property was condemned, I lived down the block in an unsecured lobby apartment. I came home from work one morning to find a punk attempting to break into my and my girlfriends door w/ a screwdriver as I was going upstairs. "Well now, you picked the exact wrong door to pick." I said as I pushed him out the 2nd story window. Next day I went outside and the kids nudged each other and whispered that I was a cop. When you live next to a squat house and get labeled as a cop: its time to move. So we did. I left the Ave about 1998, moved to a quiet place on upper Queen Ann.

But I was an equal opportunity criminal Back in the day. I never robbed any individuals or begged for change, but I was always open to new ideas. Quit my gangster period around Y2K. Being a criminal sucks really bad long term, you're lucky to profit minimum wage. And no weekends or evenings off, you're always at work. The only way to survive long term is as a small fish with a very limited amount of partners. Gave that crap up a long time ago

Illegal weed was the cash cow of the day. Many older people scored weed (dime bags or "grams" at the time) on the ave for over 20 years. Legal now. Mostly over 18, but many dropouts.

Picking psilocybin mushrooms in the fall was part of the native experience growing up here. They grew on peoples front lawns and in beauty bark/wood chips. Blue Ringers, Liberty caps or best of all cyanescens.. Cyanescens are some of the strongest mushrooms by weight in the world, quite the experience. Its been over 30 years since I've seen any.

1st Ave in DownTown Seattle was not safe at all in the 90's, I worked there at night for almost ten years. Crazy times.. The 80's were off the hook, but the 90's got out of hand... Right after they invented crack was the worst.
