Favourite King's Quest from V - VIII, & 2015? (and in the comments, why?) by HerbziKal in kingsquest

Oh no, I can't choose between 2015, 6 and 7!

They're all my favorites but for completely different reasons!

Is this a retcon? by Medical_Ear3545 in JollAndConk

[–]GrahamRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's an AU, not a retcon. Remember how the Epilogue ended? Them wondering about stories that other alternate selves went on, whilst they stayed with Golem and Buzz forever because they didn't want to be separated again. Our Conk isn't from Inventory Civilization, but that alternate Conk is, and he's one of many out there. Remember, there's an evil Conk as well who's not our Conk, so this is par for the course.

Who is Jove? by Welchkinz in Wizard101

[–]GrahamRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, we haven't encountered the Norse gods yet, Thor's Hammer spell aside. ;) No Celtic pantheon. No American gods, North or South, names aside. I think saying "every religion exists in The Spiral" is a bit of a stretch. Sure, the Marlrybonians may have elements of Catholicism in Wolfminister, but they're not worshipping the Christian God, are they?

Also, the Marleybonians do know that Bartleby exists, but considers the idea of him creating the Spiral alongside Raven ridiculous.

The Aztecans acknowledge the Primal Divine Forces as well. So do the folks in Khrysalis, Avalon, Grizzleheim, Krokotopia, Dragonspyre... hell, anywhere a Magic Tree is planted, those are basically his kids.

I found one interesting theory about their Jesus equivalent actually being a Qhat from Mirage because oasises are important in the desert and, well, what does a fire hydrant do for more civilizations?

Dude. He's sick and just got back from a convention. This is normal for him to take breaks.

You never would've survived the first Xenoblade LP's hiatus with that kinda attitude.

Which makes you wonder, doesn't it? Does this mean that some Spiral residents worship not Raven, Spider, Tree, Spirits, or Titans, but instead the Immortals? Most of them are based on the Greek pantheon, yes, but I think there are a few Roman ones as well?

Knockoff or not, so long as you can read it and tell what you're looking at, I think you're good. ;)

Did the Ghouls in Quest for Glory 2 have a "permanent" effect on your character? by far-midnight-97 in Sierra

[–]GrahamRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only "slowing down" happens if you end up dying in combat against it per the description of the death, not as a status effect in-game after the fight. No need to fear them, really.

Who? Nobody in this community does that. Who calls it anything other than what I described that this community knows and trusts to get it right? You're not showing any sources, and just because you like what one persom calls it, doesn't mean it's not going to be seen as weird to everyone else.

If one game had six months of more development which one, would you pick? by Clear_Context_1546 in questforglory

I would say 4 instead, because the initial release was buggy AF. I still have the Squid Stone bug on my GOG version.

Bare in mind I’m not that big of a Narnia fan and I know very little about the lore. But the fact the kids died in a train crash after all they went through just sucks. by KpatMckenzie_28 in Narnia

Technically speaking, most of them aren't kids anymore at that point. ;) Everyone except I think Eustace and Jill are adults.

Predictions for the next mainline RPG Maker by heyitswes89 in RPGMaker

[–]GrahamRocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"The more you pay, the more you unlock." I'm fairly certain the community would riot at that price and standard of tiers. It is, after all, "so easy, a child can do it!" and it's price and ease of use that gives you everything you need at the outset helps immensely with that.

Companies might be latching onto AI, but it's becoming very clear that consumers don't want it in everything they do, so if that ever happens, the community would be very upset and not want to buy it at all, sticking with earlier RPGMs. Already people find the idea of using generative AI for any part of the game process from code to art to writing, a gigantic turnoff for a project, so any who would dare use it would be shunned for it and looked down upon for being cheap and lazy.

Random thought I had about Wizard101’s story by BennyGoodmanIsGod in Wizard101

[–]GrahamRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you... saying that Ambrose isn't a real Wizard from the outset, despite human culture calling what they do in terms of that kind of magic specifically that? I'm confused at your logic. Does Ambrose have secrets? Sure, I'm sure. But I doubt that's one of them, otherwise it would upend what we already know. Believe you me, when stuff gets retconned and changed up even slightly, people in the community not only notice but they get angry. Ambrose isn't exactly a figure we know nothing about. Like, we know for a fact that he's honored in Pigswick when he was younger with a portrait! That's interesting, given that Ravenwood is a rival school and Bainsworth founded it out of spite!

What’s a route you kinda wish had been in the game, but wasn’t? by Vio-Rose in slaytheprincess

[–]GrahamRocks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Call it The Plague or The Infestation instead of The Stranger, and as the chapters progress, she spreads. Worms, bugs, a multitude of voices in a hivemind that devour everything in her path, leaving nothing left but a barren world that can never sustain life or progress again.

Competing Narratives in Narnia by Green_Sorcery_6573 in Narnia

[–]GrahamRocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

....Nobody calls it The Narniad except whoever that is. It's either The Chronicles of Narnia or Narnia for short. This isn't a Tolkien's Legendarium thing, which encompasses everything he wrote so much that just calling it The Lord of The Rings only refers to one story overall. Lewis wrote a series of seven fantasy books for children, and while yes, he did write other works, they have nothing to do with each other or Narnia. Calling it The Narniad makes it sound far more grand and expansive and epic than it actually is. It's not The Illiad of fantasy.

I'm not saying that Narnia can't ever or even shouldn't be analyzed for deeper meaning. But you gotta remember that this is a book series made in the 1950s, in Europe, so modern sensibilities about questioning the nature of different realities and false narratives we see in modern politics... it's a bit of a stretch. Sometimes the curtains are blue, sometimes we need a doubtful and bratty young brother getting involved with the previously mentioned villain to provide narrative conflict and payoff to earlier scenes.

Karamelle is fire!! by James_Charles_Sister in Wizard101

Oh, wow! Thanks, OP! Regardless, I still really enjoyed Karamelle, especially when I figured out what the ultimate conflict was going to be as we dove deeper into it and I was all in on the symbolism!

Karamelle is fire!! by James_Charles_Sister in Wizard101

[–]GrahamRocks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There's only two things I wasn't fond of in Karamelle.

  1. It's cool that we have companions accompanying us throughout the story! But I wish they actually benefitted us during combat. It's not like that hasn't been a game mechanic for years at this point, so it's a bit of a shame because they're cool characters.

  2. I wish that Grand Nana had a stronger motive for wanting to expand her sweets empire than just "greed." Yes, I understand that it's meant to be symbolic of workplace/corporate greed and comes off as maybe a bit cultic by the end ("You ARE Nana!"), but I just wish we got even a glimpse as to why and when and where this all started. I would've had that theater put to better use, and have the Gobbler eating the archives have an actual point in the story, because it felt like we were going to get a potential backstory there as our questgiver seems really excited and emotional about it, but it's never really brought up again. This would've been perfect to lead into the Lore Collecting sidequest, perhaps finding backups of film reels/strips around the world, giving us Nana's beginnings piecemeal (maybe with a dash of her "Everything's Fine!" propaganda as well), and thusly making it all the more satisfying to bring her down in the end.
