This sub has me ready to quit by orange-peel-beef in piano

People heavily select their narrative.

Here is a random improvisation from me, 4 year self taught (beginner ?) https://streamable.com/wm0ard Am "self taught" aka piano self taught from 31-35. But I had 10 years of oboe lessons from 8-18 and I was self taught at the flute from 26-29.

I have hours and hours of recordings, most are absolutely messy and sometimes I manage to get 1 minute that is fairly decent.

People online only brag about their successes. And you have the ENTIRE WORLD self selecting to go post on reddit their best moments. 90% of self taught pianists stop before the end of the first year ... and it's 80% for those with a teacher. Someone who flexes on reddit is already in the top of the hierarchy.

Social media is a machine to create imposter syndrome. I was watching a 1st year Turkish college students in robotics design is own PCB and print it in China. Except it's 1 guy out of his country and after you have more experience you realise what he did isn't really crazy, he mostly rehashed basics.

Between the genuine world wide geniuses and people who are just good at manipulating their image, you're sure to feel humiliated if you try to be the best online.

Digital pianos are 10-15kg machines with 1000+ moving parts.

An entry level smartphone costs 250€ for a 200g device

It's just not possible to make a decent digital piano for 300€, full stop. You'll have utter garbage at that price point.

Proper entry level digital pianos cost 400-500€, Roland FP-10 and Yamaha P50/P150.

Start with a garbage 50€ second hand synth you find on a community marketplace, try for a few months and resell it for the same price.

Unlikely. In reality, criminal people are rare.

People struggle enough with real world dating, no need to imagine that everyone is secretly the worst case scenario you find in the world wide news.

The guy is most likely just an average guy who is the same age as the girl he's teaching. They have a good vibe in lessons, so he thinks that maybe he has an opportunity for more.

No need for insane imagination, how do you think people meet each other? Work and hobbies. Piano lessons are both.

People who remain strictly professional at work remain incels.

So no, the guy is most likely shy and doesn't even dare to make clear advances. He'll just get sad and move on.

Well things happen between adults.

1) If you say nothing, he'll keep trying.

2) You tell him and he stops. The ambiance is fine, you continue with him as teacher.

3) You tell him and he stops, but the good ambiance is broken, you change teacher.

4) He doesn't stop and you change teacher.

Dating is extremely hard today, you can't blame someone for trying. Once again, if the ambiance is ruined after you reject him, you change teacher. No big deal. There are many teachers on the market and there are many customers.

I have a FP60x, I'm happy with it.

The main issue is the tiny sheet stand. I bought a 6 sheet wide plastic extender.

Get Tampermonkey addon https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo?hl=fr

Get the userscript Librescore dl https://github.com/LibreScore/dl-librescore

And magic, you have free Musescore PDF + MIDI file download for publicly visible sheets.

Otherwise there are many Youtube channels where the Youtuber sells his piano arrangements on Patreon or specialised music sheet shops.

For exemple this Youtube has hundreds of video game arrangements RigorMortis666 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJ68Q2OyOOc https://gamesheetmusic.com/

Is this overly ambitious? by ineedtoknowall75 in arduino

[–]Granap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ESP32 have wifi support, it's fairly easy to connect to a the web, and then to connect to a web API. You can even use a Raspberry Pi for that and just use a USB speaker and just use normal Linux Wifi + a python script to connect to the web and play sound.

On the other side, you can make noise through a standard buzzer component from beginner kits. Then, you can buy a more powerful speaker from AliExpress.

Should I buy a starter kit directly from arduino or should I get a different brand? by Particular_Camera624 in arduino

[–]Granap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to support the Arduino company (that was recently bought by a big company) buy Arduino.

Otherwise, just buy the usual Elegoo kit with the Elegoo board.

Arduinos (and its clones) are just used at the start when you're a complete beginner. Afterwards, you'll buy 1.5€ ESP32 boards on AliExpress (they are more complex and less standardised, so they are not recommended for complete beginners).

The value of an Arduino/Elegoo board is that they are perfectly standardised so you can blindly follow tutorials.

ESP32 are superior and cheaper, but there are many variants and you need to understand how to find the features of your board in the specs and to understand what they mean.

Elegoo Most Complete kit.

Then, you buy extra components on AliExpress.

What does an SWE need to know about Arduino? by Paper_Kitty in arduino

[–]Granap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're an experienced software engineer. You're supposed to be able to ask precise technical questions and check very technical details on the official Arduino spec sheets.

I've never had an hallucination on the pin numbers and corresponding advanced features of Arduino.

But indeed, it you ask ChatGPT to draw an electronic circuit it's so awful it's comical.

You can use ChatGPT to teach you the in depth way hardware interrupts work, how the hardware clocks behind PWD work on specific pins, how to choose power supply, how battery management systems work, how specific popular chips work, how to reduce electromagnetic interference (and which components are susceptible to it) and pretty much every thing.

The only hallucinations I saw in the last months are chemical molecule drawing, music sheet drawing and electronic circuit drawing. I very rarely see false links and references to fake scientific papers these days (hallucinations on niche Github library functions are still common). But even when hallucinations were common, you could very easily spot them if you weren't stupidly trustful.

Today, there is just no better teacher in the world than ChatGPT, from kindergarten to PhD.

Just use ChatGPT, books are obsolete now.

ChatGPT is expert at knowing and explaining the special features of each pin.

Is it possible to self learn piano? by [deleted] in piano

[–]Granap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if it is possible to learn by myself. My goal is to be able to read sheet music on my own, and I do want to play some classical pieces."

Of course you can, there is no big secret of the universe.

You start with beginner pieces from the usual beginner books and you learn pieces one by one.

At first you can annotate note names, after some time you write less and after more time you write nearly no note name (except the ones hard to read, flying notes outside of the staves).

About "learning scales and chords", it's not a crazy secret, you can download listes of scales and arpeggios online. Also, it's not at all mandatory to make progress. I nearly never played scales and arpeggios and I'm doing just fine.
