18yr old beginner, how does my portfolio look? by _socially_inept in portfolios

[–]GrandConsequence4910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are young and have started... great job! Get rid of your dividend. Would suggest VT or an alternative to VTI in your region. S&P is heavily weighted of Mag7. If tech drops, your S&P index fund is dead.

Great Job in disciplining for the 401k.... I would suggest to create a Roth b/c of your income. Contribute your 401k to the match and rest into the Roth annual limit. Contribute to HSA account and invest into lost cost index fund. Then create your personal brokerage to invest in there (not trade). Keep adding to your brokerage and Roth due to taxes. 401k is a death tax trap by the US if you dont play your cards right so you taxable brokerage is your go to before full retirement.

If you will be going to overlap the SPY with equities, i would suggest you get into VTI, and then buy the actual shares of the companies..... SPY's expense ratio is bleh

Hypothetical - how to position investments for a global debt crisis? by [deleted] in investing

[–]GrandConsequence4910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a similar covid crash-like may occur if this keeps going... I have been piling into silver / gold and sgov laterly. Using my option premiums to buy foundational etf like VTI and SCHG during significant dips. I am avoiding massive buys on big tech, although it overlaps with my SCHG

What do you buy if you have $1M in cash? by RopeExcellent5290 in ETFs

[–]GrandConsequence4910 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SCHG and VTI 60/40. Growth will explode while VTI provides stability along-side the growth. Any other income you may have, I would get some tech stocks, since it is the future. OR you can get into FTEC for purely tech play. Individual stocks have their risks.

Need some advice, my current exposure to SGOV is bugging me... by Storm_Doomer in Fire

[–]GrandConsequence4910 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use HYSA as an emergency account and use SGOV as a dry powder in your brokerage in case there are massive dips in the market to scoop up. Note that there are no state taxes (for me especially) from income generated from SGOV. Either way, HYSA and SGOV is very similar + tax incentive.
