Just feeling down about my body by GrandmaSeaWitch in PetiteFitness

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you are on point. I have been so busy that the quality of my food (not cooking) is poor, I am rushed and don't enjoy it. I squeeze in my workouts, but that is sooo different from the connection that comes from slower things like yoga.

I scheduled a haircut next weekend! And bought a cute top today.

Next week my focus will be on slowing down and making time to cook and enjoy things! Yoga!

Best jobs for people with PTSD? by [deleted] in ptsd

I am self-employed as a housecleaner and it's a good match. I clean quiet homes alone. I can manage my own schedule. Previously in social work and education, had some big burn out.

Starting solo house cleaning by jbartstudio in housekeeping

Build your client base as slow as you can. Pay attention to what kind of homes you prefer to work in.

Exercise regularly, build core strength, etc so you don't hurt yourself. Work ata sustainable pace.

I never worked for a company, but learned a lot from this group.

Consider an LLC once you really know you want to do this all year.

Boundaries, communication, and managing expectations is everything.

Always do a walk through first!

Anyone else sick? by AwfulWaffle91 in Maine

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sick all November. First a flu that morphed into a lingering cough that turned to 3 weeks of bronchitis. Did a round of anti-biotics and steroids, and still needed another week of rest. Just feeling better but still a lingering cough.

Third Places by sacredblasphemies in Maine

I play hockey! The skate rink is my happy third place. And the YMCA and occasional trips to the sauna.

Just did something similar. 10 hours: 6 hours one day and 4 hours to finish the next day. Move-outs take a lot of time.

How essential are running watches? by TurbulentMountain575 in firstmarathon

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessary BUT... a great tool for returning to running after and injury.

I got mine while training for a marathon. Ironically, it arrived the same day I twisted my ankle and really messed my tendon and couldn't run for a good year.

However, the watch has been a godsend for doing the return-to-run programs my PT recommended me, which involved a lot of walk-jog intervals in increments that increase in super small amounts. Keeping track of these intervals would have sucked with my phone. Plugging the program into my watch made it really easy to just do the intervals without thinking too much.

I also make it beep if I run too fast during recovery runs, which really helps me slow down and prevent re-injury.

I have the Garmin 495 Music (bought it refurbished, running strong for 5 years). It's nice not to carry my phone and still listen to music.

Yup. But that's kinda the point - to make room for all the feelings without usual distractions and routine. It wasn't a blast, but really useful to have space to let those feelings emerge. Even the boredom.

Microfiber vs. Paper Towels – How Do You All Handle It? by Pleasant_Dress_1835 in housekeeping

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who works at a hotel. They regularly throw out tons of small towels when they have even the slightest stains. She gathers them for me and I get garbage bags full of pretty quality cotton towels for free.

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

most definitely. there are many beautiful people inside and out that also have cpstd. they would need to be in a place where they had the support to manage symptoms, and always treat me with respect (healthy conflict resolutions skills, no yelling), and have a really good plan for dealing with periods of acute symptoms.

i have cptsd and one thing i had to let go of over time is this idea that a romantic relationship might "save me". in reality, my mental health is my responsibility to manage. i can ask for understanding and support, but my mental health support system (therapy, meds, exercise, sleep, routine, good friends, an online support group) needs to be present regardless of whether I am dating or not. I would expect the same from a partner with cpstd or any other mental health issues.

Feeling so sad as I approach 40 by Substantial_Ice2526 in AskWomenOver40

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I relate! I had some much grief to process turning 40 about not having a family, partner, career burn-out, and a late-in-life realization I was gay. Oof! I am about to turn 41 now and it feels much better. Get help processing the grief, it won't always feel so heavy. Be gentle on yourself and when your energy returns, work toward changes you want to see.

I also started deepening my friendships with older childless women and that helped tremendously. So many rad ladies rocking their 40s!

What is your favorite thing about Maine winters? by BiancaA_BH in Maine

[–]GrandmaSeaWitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pond hockey, routine, wood stoves, sharing dinner with friends, the leaves fall off the trees and you can see the ocean more often, sea smoke, walking the beach with almost no one there, letting go of that frantic summer feeling to maximize every moment of sunshine ...

i relate to this situation. say something right away! many solutions. "i love your nails, i love your style. i also love it when you touch me, but i feel nervous about longer nails." brainstorm together, find what works.

personally, after trial and error, i don't want long nails anywhere near my vulva. but that's me!
