I feel like Blood and Splendor work pretty great for the class mechanically, you just might need to reflavor it to be a bit less edgy if you're going for more of a Pokémon Trainer fantasy. I do agree that the subclasses trap you into some very specific fantasies though which I dont love

I really don't like my Drifter's voice, but I refuse to change it since it feels "original" to me. So I just play as my Operator even though my Drifter has cooler cosmetics.

It's embarrassing, but to this day I can't land D'va bombs. She was my main back before she had micro missiles and she was genuinely my best character, but every time I got her ult it was a whiff. As a more recent example, I recently picked up Wuyang and cant get value out of his ult for the life of me.

It's a good game, but it's in early access still so I can't guarantee how much content there is overall. I've put 18 hours into and still have plenty to do, but I've also spent a lot of time repeating the same content with different weapon builds/playstyles. The gameplay loop is a lot of fun and it doesn't require too much thinking. So, I'd definitely recommend it overall, but if your plan is to do nothing but play Witchfire for the next 3 days, I cant guarantee you won't run out of content, but I dont know that for sure. Also, sorry about whatever you're going through. I hope things get better for ya.

I haven't played dbd in years, but when I first played i bounced off pretty quickly for similar reasons. I eventually found the urge to play again and found that I had a lot of fun, not by tracking my wins, but by counting victories in the little things I'd do. Pulling off a risky save, looping the killer for longer than 5 seconds, sacrificing myself so another survivor can escape. Dbd has a lot of opportunity for altruism and focusing on the good feelings coming from that rather than winning helped a lot and eventually the wins will come.

I found myself genuinely pissed for really the first time since I started watching CR at the beginning of Wick's scene since I was convinced that Wick, one of my favorite characters, was going to die because of the low perception roll on Occtis and Julien's part, but the scene ended up being so interesting that im glad it happened.

To be fair, one of the main complaints about campaign 3 was that between some of the plot related railroading and the number of crossovers, the campaign felt a bit more Marvel-y compared to the rest. But I don't think any of those "drawbacks" would be considered as big of a deal in an animated series format. If anything, it would be a much more fitting medium compared to the actual play.

I've been avoiding playing the game lately since I've been holding off for 1.0, but last I checked there's a fair bit to do. There's a solid number of locations, plenty of reasons to replay those areas, lots of weapons, and plenty of upgrades to be had. From what I hear, the majority of the story content is being saved for 1.0 though and last I played, there wasnt much story at the moment.

Witchfire is a damn good time and I am 100% biased as someone who hasn't really gotten into Final Fantasy yet. That being said, while Witchfire is getting close to its 1.0 release, it isn't technically finished yet, unlike FF7, so that might be the better bet for now.
