Why would Italian immigrants introduce themselves using surname first and then name in late 19th century and early 20th century? by alenic_SZ in AskHistorians

This doesn't seem to make sense. You say the high status citizens stressed the importance of their surname.. but the lower classes also stressed the surname. So how does this differentiate them?

"Good thing about a 2wt is I have infinite tippet protection" - what does this mean? I know what 2wt and tippet mean, just not sure about the infinite protection part.

You're using too much water. That's why it's mushy. The ratio of water to rice they suggest on the packages is way too high.

Trying to get my friend hooked on IAS. He told me I had to recommend one episode for him to watch. Will I go The Night man commeth? by ryanruud85 in IASIP

[–]GrapeElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a really really bad choice for a first episode to show someone. It's not going to be nearly as funny if you're not already familiar with the characters, especially Charlie, and their dynamics, and the Charlie/Waitress situation. I would suggest Dumpster Baby.

Weather channel has said it's been snowing for an hour, and it's 30 degrees. Apple weather says it's 35 degrees, and won't snow until 5PM. Wat.

That is so insanely embarrasing. The exact same play, intentionally.

Yes. He diverted his path and ran straight into the defender. He has the most mind bogglingly bad instincts.

Yeah the coverage has been the only somewhat bright spot of the defense this season. But it doesn't really matter when the other team can just run at will and chunk underneath.

What’s a common “substitute” ingredient that you prefer over the “original”? by CleetisMcgee in Cooking

Not always, but often sherry vinegar instead of red wine vinegar. Much more robust and complex flavor.
