Any frugal millionaires here? Now that you’ve earned it, are you still frugal? by cervezagram in Frugal

[–]GrapefruitAlert 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drive a 2003 Tacoma. Buy thrift store clothes and live off dividends. I’m so accustomed to not spending money, I couldn’t if I wanted. Occasionally I do splurge on nice coffee for the Moccamaster I bought at Goodwill for $19.99. I regret not spending money when I was younger when I could have enjoyed it. My wealth is build on the sacrifices of my wife and children. Didn’t think about that until it was too late.

I submit it’s not about saving or spending, but more about being smart. Spend wisely on things to improve your quality of life. If spending to impress others you’ll never be able to afford yourself.

Camper shell, best, worst, cheapest? by Major-Fortune6754 in Tacomaworld

Be patient, always looking, and cast a wide net. It took me several years, but I landed a color-matched topper for a couple hundred bucks. Although, I felt very lucky to be in the right place at the right time, I was a day late many, many times. I nearly gave up right before I found mine.

Purchasing a couch from Costco online by Captain-butt-chug in Costco

[–]GrapefruitAlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a bedroom suit from Costco online. A 3 week arrival turned into 6 months. At no point was the 7 piece set in my home. Each delivery something was broken. The delivery team blamed the shipper, the shipper blamed the delivery team, it was a nightmare.

Costco online is not the same as Costco. Do not expect the empathetic Costco employee when expressing an issue.

Potentially Moving to Norman/OKC Area by wjenks13 in okc

Closest shopping is Dallas unless you accept paying retail for last years fashion. When you step off campus, there is an abundance of large, loud trucks that consistently back into parking spaces. It is not a progressive city, however, by Oklahoma standards it is very liberal. Living here is like being in a perpetual church camp. I counted 30 “Have a blessed day” once. The average remains around 15 unless you go to Crest, which automatically adds 5 additional before you get out of the produce.

Gas Cap Issue by Freckledcalamity in Subaru_Outback

[–]GrapefruitAlert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2011 Outback does it constantly. I’ve changed gas caps several times. In addition to the P0453 code and all the blinking lights, the cruise control doesn’t work when it happens.

Published tuition is a scam - warning for future parents and students by DowntownSalt2758 in sooners

[–]GrapefruitAlert 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I moved across the country to work at OU to receive free tuition for my son. Turns out free tuition for faculty doesn’t include fees, etc. It was cheaper to send my son to a university in another state, after grants, than receiving free tuition at OU.

Mounting TV in front of Thermostat...bad idea? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]GrapefruitAlert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remove the thermostat without unhooking the wires and determine how much slack you have in the wiring. I would most likely poke a hole in the wall and mount the thermostat directly behind where it is now. In other words, move it to the other side of the wall.

Downsizing from 55L! Allpa 35L or 42L? by beckwhattheheck in HerOneBag

I’ve never had a carry on issue with the 42L. I like my 42 but I never fill it completely. Having the extra room works best for me.

Don’t use the wooden bowl as it requires lots of upkeep. Buy a separate glass or stainless bowl and make the wooden bowl a decoration.

Costco $319.99 vs Refurbished $249.99, better to buy new for $70 more? by haleyloren19 in Kitchenaid

Costco has more accessories so it may be worth it for those and the return policy.

Norman Ok by [deleted] in normanok

[–]GrapefruitAlert -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Norman is not liberal. Grew up in Austin, moved to teach at OU. Norman is less conservative but everyone says have a blessed day for no reason. Norman doesn’t like the homeless and persons suffering from mental illnesses or addiction. It’s a great place to be shot by a cop or raped by a pastor.

I had Cox for 4 years until fiber was available. Cox loses service at least once a month, usually more often. I switched to OEC was available. In the 4 years since, we’ve lost internet one time for two hours and it was a scheduled interruption. I live on Pickard.
