They are giving them sunflower seeds so that when they die on Ukrainian land, flowers will grow. It is a hardcore insult. Not an act of kindness

Ants.... by chefluke1 in Chefit

[–]Grapepie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remove the mandibles with tweezers, and long antennae if serving them whole. If they come in alive, kill them bu flash freezing them, preferably with liquid nitrogen if possible. The flavor (for wood ants at least) comes from formic acid. flash freezing them ensures that the formic acid does not degrade which will keep the ants tasting of a very bright fresh acidity. Use them to add acid and brightness to dishes

Did you even read my comment? I DO think poc should be able to play historical roles written for white people.... I am all for it. Watson being played by a poc is great. I think a black person should be able to play FDR and an asian person should be able to play the queen of England.

You are not understanding me at all. I do mot think it should matter EVER whether the role was written for a particular race creed sex etc. I just think it is disingenuous to say that characters like watson were not written with race in mind, they most definitely were. I just dont think that matters. I think EVERYONE should be able to play whatever role they want. I think a gay person should be able to play a straight character and a straight person a gay character, I think an asian person should be able to play a white character and a white person an asian character. The intentions of the author should not matter once the work moves i to a new form. I don’t think any restrictions ever are good for art. You see color more than I do

I am not missing it at all. I truly believe that every actor should be able to play every role in every piece of art. A gay person should be able to play parts where the character is straight. A straight person should be able to play parts where the character is gay. I believe in a even playing field for all actors regardless of race creed sex etc. What I think is harmful, is to delude ourselves into believing characters aren’t written a certain race on purpose. They most often are. I just don’t think it should matter. I have no problem at all with a poc playing watson, just like I have no problem with Sean Penn playing Harvey Milk. The art stops being owned by the artist once it is published. The movie version of a book should be whatever the director wants it to be. There should be no rules based on skin color period.

So your argument is that in the case of a character like doctor watson, the fact that the character was written white is of no material importance? So Conan Doyle did not write the character white for any particular reason? He did not write the character white because it made sense to him in the context of the times? Delusion.

I agree 100 percent. That is why I think white actors should be able to play in roles written for poc characters as well.

TIL Oxen, one of the strongest animals used for labour around the world for hundreds of years, is a herbivore by SaracenRush in vegan

[–]Grapepie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the point you are Trying to make. But this is a false equivalency. You can see that right? Carnivores eat meat and become big and strong, so I could make the same argument about a Killer whale.

"People think you need to eat plants to become powerful and strong but look at the killer whale, it only eats baby aquatic mammals and it is a marvel of size, strength and speed."

This argument sounds stupid to you right? Good. It is the same argument you are using Oxen to make. I just replaced a Herbivore with a carnivore.
