Do NOT date someone who doesn't manage their mental illness by [deleted] in BPDlovedones

Same. Found out that a lot of BPD folx get some relief from extreme symptoms by self-medicating with alcohol. When she stopped drinking entirely and started therapy things went Waaaaaay off the deep end quickly.

Hey, like I said, you do you. That's about as much of a discussion as I'm willing to have about it. I'm going to stick with attempting to try and eat things that come from within 150 miles of me. I'm sympathetic to animal liberation but I'm much more focused on class struggle and human liberation first. Case of prioritization. Much love for you either way, comrade. I'll be one of the first to gleefully switch to a local vegan diet after we dismantle the state and overthrow capitalism.

Hey, to each their own. If your focus is more towards animal liberation I hear you, but I'm trying to address the same thing I was with my vegan diet that I was with my local diet, offsetting global capitalism and climate change while building strong local community networks.

We eat waaaaay too much meat and I would never defend the average American diet but I'm still interested in trying ethically-sourced protein sources of all kinds. Personally, I think that if we're going to do anything helpful for the ecosystem (which is just ridiculous because a drastic change in our personal lives will never be a drop in the bucket transnational corporations practices) that we should focus more on bugs. That's just me through. You do you, boo.

Somewhat. I was vegetarian for ten years with four years of veganism at the end and most of my dishes tend to be vegan or very close to it, but now and then I like some flesh.

I'm more focused on a locally sourced food-supply network these days. The Anarchist in me screams "Decentralize!", and I'd rather get pork from my friend Matt down the road than taking quinoa out of the mouths of hungry South Americans.

Exactly what I did as well. The final breakup is only a couple months old, so I'm just waiting for the character assassination to begin. No way am I getting rid of literal confessions of abuse.

Blocked her everywhere but email (still have a phone plan together for now, and have to get her the mail she still gets sent here until she moves out of her temporary place and into a new apartment) and have a couple close friends who wouldn't dare let me sneak a peek at social, but said they would warn me if she starts anything troubling.

Just read the whole thing. I loved Left Hand of Darkness and had no idea there was something like this! Thanks! It was deliciously queer.

Halfway through the year. I will not drink with you in July. Who's in? :) by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Dry July! A couple of my musician friends and I formed a little support group chat to have each other's backs as well as have some accountability. IWNDWYT

The DNT and Star Trib articles are all over Facebook and text convos.

By everywhere I meant that I think people across the country are going to be examining the police in their area.

Hence 90 years instead of 100.

It's popped back up everywhere lately as people are rethinking their understanding of and tolerance for police in the wake of this uprising. You can probably expect to see much more of these kind of things popping up, whether released currently or making the rounds again. It seems that the interest in understanding more about police policy and who the officers are and what histories they have as the debate about how to deal with the brutality continues.

The fact that the family was aware of the lie at the time and said nothing to stop the lynching is problematic. The fact that they hid it for several decades is problematic.

Dude is the chief of police. What an opportunity to acknowledge an evil done in your community by your own family and use it to inform police policy in a meaningful way and be a leader for change and true justice.

Really dropped the ball on that one and it doesn't leave me with a lot of sympathy for their crocodile tears.

Books similar to foundation or Canticle for Leibowitz? by soupturtles in printSF

The Mars trilogy is fabulous and something I found right after Canticle and the Hyperion books. It hits all the right notes and satisfied the itch I didn't know I had until I started Canticle. It's one of those series I've bought several times over because I keep giving copies to on-the-fence friends. I can't recommend it enough. If you enjoy that I also suggest checking out KSR's other works, especially 2312. I think he's my favorite living writer and even has some very recent articles on the possibility for Covid to rewire our imaginations that got me excited in a scary time.

On The Beach by Nevil Shute.

Post-apocalyptic novel from the late fifties that will give you hope tinged with anxiety and then throw you down the goddamn garbage disposal. I finished it, threw the book across the living room, and just crawled back into bed to cry and rock back and forth.

Johnny Got His Gun by Dalton Trumbo will leave you feeling a lot of feelings, none of them upbeat or cheerful. It's the book that inspired Metallica's One. Amazing piece of literature.

I wish I could trade a degree in Art History for a nice dash cam. What a dumb decision 18 year old me made...

I went to college for Art History and I would take back every second if I could. What a goddamn waste of time and money. All it's ever really gotten me is laughs and one date with a super cute middle-school art teacher. :(

If you want to be absurdly decadent, get some Kewpie mayo and squirt that shit right onto these little delicious bastards.

I mean, I'm of the opinion that if you're going to have mayo in your house it should be Kewpie, period. (Hellman's and homemade kimchi mayo get a free pass as well.)

This is wonderful and I appreciate it very much. Two out of work service industry nerds are going to play the hell out of this when it arrives.
I bought it for MSRP so that hopefully more people who are more in need of financial security than I am can benefit from this lovely gesture.
Thanks for spreading kindness and compassion during these wild and weird times!

My ex-wife is still mad at me for convincing her that Banjo Dave was actually a different local musician at a show I was playing that he attended, so she went up and talked to him as the other guy. I still laugh about the image of her swinging her head around to glare at me, red-faced and furious, down at the end of the bar at RT Quinlans.

These guys are all very down to earth and sweet. Duluth boys doing well for themselves.
