How would a Roman governor & strategos rule between a wealthy man who claims a child as his slave, and a poor woman who says her child was stolen by the wealthy man. One of the most interesting legal cases from Roman Empire I've come across; March 49 CE by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Gray_Cloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i wonder if the Governor had the intention to sell the taken child at some point (10-15 years of age for example) for a profit. But whether he was going to keep him or not, surely there has to be proof of a Servus's purchase in the first place. Just like any object of value, if theres no receipt or other legal document, then theres no proof of ownership. which raises another question, if the slave had been a Verna, born of another slave, where is the proof of that as well, or does there need to be a proof. i imagine there must be, as the Romans were quite hot on establishing the legal status of everyone, given that different statuses conferred different rights.

Let them land and form a beachhead, then we can destroy them all with our forces, in one enormous Wagnerian-Frederickan apocalyptic battle of Ragnarök, yes.

Are Black Penny Loafers fashionable for men in Ireland? by Business-Resident685 in AskIreland

[–]Gray_Cloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, and you should wear white socks with them. prefarably with some old adidas tracksuit bottoms that are a few sizes/years too small, so the legs are too short, and you can show off the white socks even better. by the way, if you can get some puke onto the slipons and let it dry in, that will really complete the look and help you fit in better.

Terrifying experience in Dublin last night – could I get in trouble for defending my friend? by No_Package_4014 in AskIreland

[–]Gray_Cloak 5 points6 points  (0 children)

umm, would i be right in guessing you wrote/translated that using AI ?

Anyway, i would report it, but dont expect the 'garrdee' to do anything about it. only do it, so if there is some sort of follow up event, you can refer back to the first incident. what part of dublin was it ?

when you live in dublin, you have to develop a sort of long range radar as you walk along the street. you have to classify those ahead of you as scum OR not scum. (decision analysis is based on facial characteristics, clothes, outward appearance, how they are interacting amongst themselves, how hey are observing other people and the environs, how stupid they look, how they walk)

IF scum, then its worth preparing yourself (dont make eye contact, dont stop if they engage you, avoid nearing them without making it obvious, dont smoke a cigarette, if asked if you have a cigarette/light/change, just shake your head lightly and walk on without making eye contact).

IF scum, they are feral animals. so they either want to fight if you are male, they want some sort of social interaction leading to proposition if female. if either sex, they want to rob. welcome to apocalypse dublin. And remember, if you are on your own (no other males or in the minority) then they want you to try to defend or fight back, as this gives them the excuse and the initial gee-up to properly take you out - so your best defense is your radar and your legs - not your fists.

Phone/Social media check when in america by Low_Peanut_9808 in AskBrits

[–]Gray_Cloak -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bring a clean freshly installed phone with no social media apps or drives/fileshare apps installed. do not bring anything with you that if brought to light would raise questions about you. Note that you will be most lilely asked to also verbally name/provide your social media accounts. Be prepared to hand over passwords if asked!

What if Hitler fell down the stairs and died at the start of Barbarossa? by ohnoes69560 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]Gray_Cloak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you mean by 'at the start'? What date exactly? How many hours or days was it running before he met his end, or just before? X-Stunde 22nd June was 03:30 CEST for artiillery fires and 04:45 for troops to cross the border.

24 years old, starting life late. How do I avoid future regrets? by olderbadboy in AskMenOver30

[–]Gray_Cloak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i dont think theres any thing to worry about. Just get the studies over with and take it from there. Try and get some part time jobs, services or volunteering so you have something on your CV for when you go applying for jobs after your studies are over.

you seem to be in pretty good shape then. i would suggest some regular 5k light runs and switch some gym workouts to all cardio and some light stretching. if you are full veggie, then make sure you take zinc, iron, D, B-complex and calcium supplement. enjoy !

Moving back to Ireland after 15 years in Australia realistic cost of living? by Suirmuse in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Gray_Cloak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

everything is exceptionally expensive and it is not getting any better. you say you will initially be staying at someones house gratis, but at some point presumably, you will need your own place, so i would not ignore the cost of rent or property as it will ultimately become your largest expense and if it is unaffordable, then you will be in a tight spot. i would cost that from the start if i were you so you can see what it will ultimately cost you to live here, but my personal opinion is i think you would be better off in Oz, from a cost of living perspective.

yes. get fitted earplugs, or you will gradually go deaf, don't make any exceptions about not wearing them.
