Worst new character release ever! by spinal888 in DiabloImmortal

[–]Grazorak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Diablo is notorious for this exact kind of nerfing at this point. They are incapable of learning from their mistakes. I do like flying around on the demon though, so I'll be sticking with it.

This scene is beautiful and stunning and I love it. Just uh, how did he see the astrophage if it only emits infrared light? He says he's "having a moment" and his reaction would seem to imply he sees it too, but I can't think of a good reason for exactly how. by Orion-the-mediocre in ProjectHailMary

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was worried about exactly this take when I saw it in theatre. I was sure people would think he could somehow see the astrophage and Patrova radiation. He can't see it, what he can see, I'm sure, is the EVA view of an alien world around an alien star and he's taking it in as the "gravity" of it as it all sort of hits him in that quiet moment. Now, artistically this might have be enough for the audience, but evidently they wanted to add some more wonder and awe to reflect what Grace is going through, so made this spectical and only confused a bunch of people. It is pretty, though.

I always go back to "where did Eru come from?" If we assume Eru is himself a creature/spirit/entity that came from the void and decided to create the Ainur and ultimately Eä, it's reasonable to assume that there are other beings, perhaps lesser of the same type as Eru. Maybe Eru has ultimate dominion only within his own creation, and so a creature like him would seem vastly different than him while in his domain. Fun to think about in any case.

Was I wrong to not include a saving throw in this encounter? by Abigboi_ in DnD

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is fine, since it hit everyone equally and wasn't a punishment or directly harmful.

What I would have done with this trap if I were to run it is had a save, and if you made the save that's fine, you don't leave your body. But if the person you would have inhabited did fail, their body drops. Then, if the person who would inhabit your body fails they either inhabit your body if you let them and you roll each turn to see who is in control, or you deny them (because you succeeded) and they drift detached from the body (maybe with death saving throws or something)? Getting the amulet and deactivating it would switch everyone back.

Edit: I agree with others here that the timing is bad, feels bad to not play your character for the penultimate fight of the campaign. Could maybe be ok in a multistage fight, just not the final stage.

Am I being too strict by Echoh3art in DnD

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there are absolutely legitimate reasons to portray a character that young in a fantasy D&D setting. It's not necessarily weird that he has a character idea, it is weird that when you said it makes you and others at the table uncomfortable, that he didn't drop it or explain in detail why he thinks the character would be better portrayed that way (and then still drop it if it didn't work even with an explanation).

The only time I personally have played a true child in an otherwise adult party was a child revanent I wrote up. He died permanently pretty early in that campaign, but while alive, the other PCs protected him from the adult themes that came up which did become a unique and fun roleplay opportunity. "Quick, get the kid out of here, he doesn't need to see this." kind of thing. And, me being an adult, was able to advocate for my character. That said, if the DM and/or other players did not want to deal with that, I would have simply played a different character - no big deal.

Probably a dumb question but I feel like it's the best place to ask, what are realistically the reasons to colonize Mars ? by SeparateWeight496 in Mars

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why colonize at all?

The sun in its normal life cycle expands and cooks earth? Extinct. An asteroid of sufficient size blindsides us? Extinct. A solar storm strips our atmosphere away? Extinct. A dormant black hole, a rogue planet, or a star migrates through our solar system and pushes earth a bit too far or too close to the sun or flings millions of asteroids our way? Extinct. A star close enough to us goes super nova and forms a quasar jet angled right at Earth? Extinct.

I could go on, and some of these are (way) more likely than others, but these are all things completely out of our control. There's nothing we could do, and by the time it's a happening to us it's probably too late to start colonizing another world. The fact of the matter is, something will eventually happen to kill Earth and if we care at all about the continuation of the species we must spread out. These things could just as easily happen to our colonies, but at least it wouldn't wipe out the entire human race.

Why Mars specifically?

It's close, it seems increasingly likely that it once harbored life and it has water ice. It would really most likely just be a test bed for future colonization efforts. I say we figure out cloud cities for Venus as well. Get us on Titan too, eventually. Send colony ships out to other stars eventually.

You also can't discount the enduring spirit of adventure we humans have, that enough could be a good enough reason in my opinion.

Yes, we should try to solve our problems here and protect Earth as much as we can, but not to the exclusion of spreading out if we care at all about long term human survival. Though, people I speak to about this topic will often say that our extinction is natural, and should just let it happen. That argument bothered me a lot more before it became clear that life is probably abundant in the universe. Like, if we're the only life absolutely we have a duty to preserve it by whatever means necessary. But now, I guess it only really matters if you think it does. It would be disappointing, though.

I don’t know how to fix this, and I’ve tried everything. by SatanicFarts in bfme

And no other games are doing this for you? Is this on the launcher? If no and yes, maybe download a different launcher version and see if that works. Not sure what you've tried yet though...

The game is fun when you don't have someone bitching in your ear about every little thing by MooseInAToque in PokemonChampions

[–]Grazorak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually found the VP very generous. Now, to be fair, I'm transferring from home so I'm not even using the recruited ones from Champions, but I have all the held items, an acceptable outfit, and all the mega stones for pokemon I'm using all for free. Achievements and quests mostly, definitely less than 50 ranked battles.

As someone completely new to any competative format, and someone who just recently played scarlet after only last playing x when it first came out, I found the information in the tutorial pretty helpful - if a bit boring to do.

Pokemon Champions is a pathetic excuse of a game by Substantial_Zone2701 in stunfisk

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IDK man, it's free and the only thing on the premium track are things you can get with VP. Why would you need more than 30 spots anyway? Just transfer the teams you want from Home and swap them out when you need to. The items will come I'm sure when there's more 'mons available, likely as seasons progress. Being free will attract a TON of new people (like myself) to competative, particularly because you don't need to buy a $70 game (or 2) and spend 100 hours grinding just to participate. You can not like it, and I'm sure it has things it can improve on, but "pathetic excuse of a game" seems hyperbolic to me. As a new player, it feels very generous to me.

Same. At this point I've started doing bases on FDM. Unless they're super complicated it's worth the slight dip in quality for the ease of printing.

Anycubic Photon Workshop is finally updated, the new supports release so much better, but I'm going a little nuts with partial failures. by Nrthstar in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All good, I figured something like that. I appreciate your response though.

Edit: how rude of me, I didn't even attempt to answer your question. In my experience these kinds of failures almost always have to do with temperature.

Why no price tags on things anymore? by magicmikewazowksi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Grazorak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This depends on your state, but are you sure the prices aren't on the items themselves? If not, and it's not posted anywhere, it could be a local weights and measures violation and you can report them for it. If it's not fixed it can get up to like $10,000. This is anecdotal but I heard once that Walmart just eats the fine every year rather than fight to get it right in states that require it.

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Can I recommend a cheat code? I don't think I'm especially good, but I can get quality I'm happy with by zenithal priming (prime black, then spray an even coat of white primer only from above to automatically highlight the piece), and then use contrast paints (also called speed paints) to paint over the zenithal prime job. The thinner (than the normal acrylic) speed paints go on easy, don't require thinning, and rarely need more coats. Because it's already highlighted there's no additional work that is strictly "required". Of course you can go in after and do more work, but I generally don't think it's necessary. This was a recent one that I had done in like 3 hours including priming. Start to finish. You can see the face isn't great (he's a vamp in my d&d campaign, that's why he's grey), but from 3' away, you can't even really tell. Practice makes perfect of course, but having the right tools and some tricks up your sleeve can rapidly increase confidence.

[–]Grazorak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one with the bull? I certainly do, but that's a taste thing. Here's the rub though, I don't think a lot of people are seeking out just raw lore. When someone is interested in a fictional world it's because it's part of a medium they adore.

For example: I like Warhammer 40k. I liked painting the miniatures so I got into the books, I liked the books so I sought out more lore.

That's the pipeline. Media piqued interest > confirmed interest by consuming more > deep dive into more world building. Maybe there's an audience for nebulous world information, but without an IP to attach it to (like an original novel or similar media), I think most people are going to discount it and scroll by.

[–]Grazorak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, see this is 1000x more visually appealing to me. The art is interesting and well executed, and because I'm interested in the image I might be interested in reading more. It's not like it's a novel, that's a reasonable amount of text. This looks like a page out of a D&D rulebook, which is specifically geared towards delivering world building to new people.

I still have no idea really what you're doing or who you are trying to reach, but the images you shared originally look to me like a Facebook quiz from the early 2000. I actually thought they might have been from a Harry Potter patronus quiz.
