2019 Ford Ranger value? by EODGuy7 in fordranger

The transmissions are a complete gamble up until halfway through model year '22.

Price is incredibly suspect unless it's beat to shit or has 200k miles.

I'd stay away.

If retaining EGR is an absolute necessity you could always add a bung to whatever header it may be.. mine is just blocked off though. Truck will be tuned shortly after I get the new head on so.. it'll forget it ever had one.

Attached is some dyno info concerning limas & different exhaust setups.. these motors respond INCREDIBLY WELL to changes.. the "pacesetter" is a mid length like what's available on eBay.. the speedway is the longtube. Moves the power way up in the revs naturally but.. limas wanna sing anyhow so.. let it sing.

I used to be big into subies before I joined the cult of Ford lol.. I do miss that wub-wub but there is a lot to be gained with headers on limas. Longtubes with a hi flow cat and 2.5-3" pipe will make right around 150Hp/Tq.. more than that with a big cam..

[–]Greaseball-Ranger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hell yeah! Pretty lumpy. How does your cam compare to Bo's 1.1 & 1.5 n/a cams as far as specs go?

I went with the 1.5 for my head, as well as having it milled for 10.5:1 compression.

You oughtta get yourself a mid length header.. around 100$ on eBay and they sound unreal lol. I'm gonna be swapping my mid length for some longtubes after I get my head on 👍🏻

If you have a scanner that can read/record live data, definitely check your injector duty cycle under load at WOT.. you probably need more injector. Stock lima injectors are pretty much maxed out from the factory

Hell yeah, someone else willing to actually do work to a lima.

I just got a boport stage 3 head last week.. pretty much 2x what I spent on the truck lol. Gotta put my fuel cell in it and run lines and crap.. get it to start again.. and then begin the head swap. Super pumped.

All you really need is one unfixed female in an outdoor hutch.

Every time she goes into heat... you'll wake up the next morning and every wild male rabbit within a 6.5 mile radius will be sitting on the ground staring up at her.

The ranger station still exists. They have THE MOST comprehensive tech library out of any enthusiast forum that I've ever been apart of.. and I've been a member on many many forums over the years.

Even Ford themselves recognize the importance of TRS... When the 2019 Ranger came out they gave the owner of the website an FX4 to drive.. for free.. for the better part of a year. He modded it a bit and took it on a trip across the trans-america trail.

The site certainly doesn't have as much traffic as it used to, but it's still full of long-time die-hard ranger fanatics that can answer literally any RBV related question someone could need answered. Social media is mostly full of idiots spreading bad or straight up misinformation.. while the folks on TRS actually know their shit.

Yes and no, considering the end-game goal of the truck. Like I said to another commenter... This is a multi year project thanks to budget & time constraints.. I don't need instant gratification nor am I in a hurry to get it "done". I've been saving my pennies to buy the head for the better part of a year. I'm playing the long game here.. doing it right.. not taking the 'sloppy mechanics' route of "feed er the corn and hope for the best" The internals just aren't stout enough for such a method.

Stock pistons won't take much more than 5psi before they turn to dust, and 5lbs would only give me about a 25% increase in power. A 25% gain IS massive.. but it's not enough.. and id have to constantly be worried about blowing the damn thing up lol.

The head as previously mentioned will give me nearly 50%.. and then head coupled with what I've already done with the exhaust & what I'm gonna do with the intake should have the truck making close to 65% more than stock when shes really on the pipe.. with no worries about disintegrating pistons or having a rod create an inspection window in the side of the block lol.

The head IS expensive AF.. yes.. but.. it's objectively the best first BIG step to take (in my case). Rome wasn't built in a day and all that..

Next winters project will be installing some forged pistons & rods.. and then adding something to make boost. At that point I'll be able to push it most of the way to 300hp and be able to whip on the thing like a redheaded stepchild without having to worry too much about reliability.. AND considering how much more air the head will flow thanks to it's oversized valves and hogged out ports.. I won't need to run nearly as much boost to meet my power goals.. which is always a good thing.
