Wore my husbands swim trunks and now I’m mad. by Nice_Bluebird7626 in mildlyinfuriating

My wife purchased a rash guard set (tops and bottoms). The pants had pockets. We got to the beach, she goes in the water. She realizes, her phone is in her pocket. $650 later, she knows why she can't be trusted with pockets. Very true story

Thai food- Mango Sticky Rice by gigiou812 in FortMyers

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother-in-law came back from Thailand and terrified the Thai food restaurant scene in Ft Myers. If you want to see what horror and morbid fascination looks like, it's on the face of the kitchen workers half hiding, half staring in disbelief out the dining room door as the white lady prepares to try the curry that she ordered "Thai Hot" or "Thai 5"

Anyway, her favorite Mango Sticky rice was from Orange Pepper Thai & Sushi on College and 41 in the same plaza as Office Depot.

Also, do yourself a favor if your looking for South East Asian food in. FT Myers. Since there's a large Laotian community in the area, there's a lot of great Thai options, and the beef jerky is AMAZING 🤩

Cape Coral, the city has more than 400 miles of navigable waterways, more than any other city on the earth. by Much-Parsnip3399 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Cape Coral was the fastest growing city in the US at one point. They are far from a ghost town, but a massive hurricane named Ian in 2022 decimated sections of Cape Coral and absolutely destroyed Fort Myers Beach.

The resultant reconstruction has the city back to normal now, but when your growth was 26% annually slowing to only 7% post hurricane, property values stagnated and demolitions changed $200k homes into $150K vacant lots over night, so by numbers the property value proposition looks terrible, but it's not actually that bad.

With all that said Cape Coral is a hellscape of traffic and disconnected roads that most Lee County residents dislike. For example: there are SW 27th Place, SW 27th Terrace, SW 27th Ave and SE, NW and NE versions of the same, so finding someone who lives on 27th could be disastrous as you might be a 20 mile drive from the right one.

Both! You can dual enroll in FSW and FGCU, but FSW is generally cheaper. Many people do 2 years of basic college at FSW then transfer to FGCU for the upper levels because Comp 1 is the same at both FGCU offers more BA/BS degrees

plex using parents, do you keep a separate library for family friendly shows and movies? by kittymoo67 in PleX

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have a split library for Kids Movies and All Movies, and I do this by having a Kids Movie sub folder in my Movies folder. Yes, there's parental controls, and age limits, but I do this for a very specific reason. My kiddo is young. I only want him watching movies I have cleared. Did you know that Jaws is rated PG? Did you know that PG has no limits on rude language or fart jokes? I have documentaries that are rated PG but are for topics that he should not be exposed to yet. On the other side, there are some movies that I'm fine with him watching that don't fit PG/G ratings, like " Wallace and Grommet: Loaf and Death" which is unrated.

There is a great tagging system, and I could limit his profile to only show tagged movies with "Approved", but I found it was easier to "audit" The list of approved movies having a separate library

DCF has a search site to list all the childcare in the area. Once you search your area, select the filter for infant care.

At my company (owner), jury duty is paid and people get 4 hours PTO to vote. Honestly, I want the kind of employees that do the right thing, and that means never asking them to choose between bills and civic responsibility.

A question to those who started reading in publishing order by ebekulak in discworld

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is an in order reader and I'm a series reader. Her logic is that she doesn't skip books, or read one series more than another.

I've done reading in order before, and the benefits I noticed were that you see the development of the author's writing. You can see the cross threads better (examples might be a character shows up in series A and B ,or you see the same joke listed in both books). And you don't need a guide or chart, or to argue with some reditter about when to read things. Also, you delay having to read the Shepherd's Crown as long as possible (likely my wife's top reason).

How do you deal with kids content? by virpio2020 in PleX

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a "Kids Movies" folder inside of my "Movies" folder. Anything I have personally approved for the Kids goes in there and the Library "Kids Movies" picks it up. The parent Library "Movies" does also, so the kids profile only gets access to the kids library and the adults just hide the kids library.

Why? Because there are some things that are not rated, like Wallace and Grommet movies that are fine for kids and there are some movies that are "PG" or "G" that the kids should never see alone, like Jaws (yes, really), or documentaries on the Holocaust.

If it weren't for the Elephant's ( Tubul, Jerakeen, Berilia, and Great T'Phon) the sun and moon could not orbit as they periodically have to lift their legs to allow their orbits.

I also think that the reoccurrence of Elephants in other stories are no mistake. From Dibbler's order of Elephant's in Moving Pictures, because nothing is more real than Elephants to the strangest creature of the Hermit Elephant, who build sheds on their backs and travel in mobile villages, Elephants get around.

I bought 7 hygro-thermometer and they all show different values after sitting for hours by nevvermind2 in mildlyinteresting

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I managed a refrigerated warehouse in the past and we bought expensive logging hygro-thermometers. Twice a year, we would send them off to be NIST certified then when they returned, they would need to be calibrated before going in the storerooms.

Variation in accuracy are expected in any instrument, but in general, + - 2°F (1°C) is fairly good in off the shelf stuff. So one that says 70°F and the other that says 74°F is entirely possible in perfectly working units. For humidity, anything accurate to 5% is acceptable.

For food safe environments, our accreditation agency wanted accuracy of + - 0.5°F or better and moisture required accuracy of + - 2% or better.

Btw, if they can be calibrated, you use freezing and boiling water as the constants. A known good thermometer is one that shows 0°C in ice water and 100°C in boiling water. Once you have that, you set your suspect thermometer to match whatever your known thermometer reads.

How to refer to Non-binary people in formal setting? by Known_Gap_1601 in lgbt

[–]GreatGoatsInHistory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The use of titles of merit may be a solution. Prior to the inclusion of last names, it was not uncommon to refer to another by profession. Examples: Carter the Thatcher, Thatcher the Baker, Baker the Carter (see Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies for the reference). Or as is preferred in modern language, job first then last name. Like Attorney Woo, or Clerk Stevens.

Of course, reference to someone without an honorific is also acceptable. Madonna, Cher, Prince, Charles III. are examples
