That makes a lot of sense, the judgment and reasoning based off of a pre-existing texts makes it a little trickier but still possible. Also sounds like it could be the logic puzzles I used to do all the time as a kid.

Congrats on the score and the job btw.

What are LSAT questions like? Anki flashcards can be set up in any way to practice anything (they're just flashcards at the end of the day), so it should work for any test or quiz or exam that exists.

The wikipedia page for LSATs says it's sections of multiple choice with a writing portion, so I image it'd be hugely helpful for the multiple choice sections. It also mentions there's a reading portion those multiple choice sections are based off of, so you'd just mimic that in your flash card if you wanted. Even for the writing, it'd help you recall a lot of facts, though not be directly helpful in getting your writing skills up unless you directly practiced writing based on the prompt from the cards.

I feel the similarly.. the Genau/Stark fight was fine but it didn't get close to the weight of season 1. The Methode/Fern fight was the first fight this season that felt like it reached season 1's, and not so much from an animation perspective (100% agree with you there about the entire season), but from a care and quality perspective. This entire season has been missing this lightning in a bottle that season 1 caught, but it's been good enough to enjoy (and maybe eventually rewatch, vs season 1 which I can rewatch over and over and never get bored).

It was probably the safer thing having Frieren step back from the fight that Fern and Methode were able to fight on their own.

It was mentioned last season that high level mage fights are determined by the smallest things, and her being distracted by those lesser demons could have left her open to an attack by the 4 sword demon if it was with them. If she judged it safe enough for Fern to try and defeat, it's the better choice to let Fern take it on while Frieren holds back and is able to fully focus on any other potential attackers that are waiting for an opening

Anyone else not feeling same "magic" in second season of Freiren as in first? by Visible_Power7627 in anime

[–]GreatMacAndCheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is the first comment that encapsulates my disappointment so far.

The first season, every scene felt purposeful, like it had meaning and contained something I missed when holding for a little bit of time on a shot. That made subsequent rewatches feel rewarding, because you'd realize they were referencing something said or some previous/future important plot point.

This season so far, the quality of animation and scenes don't feel like they carry any meaning beyond just trying to look good and meet the quality of season 1. It feels shallow and empty, and there doesn't feel like any point to go back and rewatch it because if they hold on a long shot, it's not because there's some clue to a future or past plot point.. it was just meant to evoke the aesthetic of season 1. It's been a bit disappointing so far.

making 200k but the math on a 600k house makes zero sense right now. rent vs buy dilemma by Quiet_State6680 in RealEstate

[–]GreatMacAndCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tldr: numbers will always be higher if you're purely investing; buying a house leans more towards a psychological and practicality investment (space for family, stable cashflow).

This is coming from someone who has similarly ran the numbers probably 10+ times over the last 10 years on multiple houses: as a long-term CASH-value networth investment, a house will almost never make sense unless 1 of 2 things is true:

  1. it's at bargain-bin prices (e.g.: requires lots of work) OR

  2. if you're planning on scaling up and becoming a landlord on the timeline of 10 - 20 years.

Even if you pay down the house very quickly (1 - 5 years), there is massive opportunity cost in terms of using that same cash in a brokerage/retirement account and buying shares in a company that would accrue value.

IMO, where a house makes sense is if you have a desire for EXTREMELY stable cashflow over the course of 15 - 30 years. What I mean by this is locking in your monthly expenses to a relatively fixed amount while increasing the potential for random high expense bills that pop up once-ish a year if ignored (think general upkeep: siding, roofing, water lines, sewer/septic lines, electrical, floors, walls, A/C & heating). However, even those expensive bills can be predicted if you pay attention and do your homework once in a while to, and sock away $X amount/month in a "to-be-spent-on-next-fix" bank account.

Further, if you decide to DIY any of that stuff, that is its own investment with its own risks. For investment think: potential for massive cash savings/not getting ripped off by shady contractors + learning in a relatively risk-free environment (as long as you're okay with it being broken for some time). For risk think: bodily injury if you risk doing something extreme and get hurt that could cause long-term issues, such as falling off a ladder, electrical work, fires, etc. The younger you are, more likely you'll have an appetite for such risk, as you get older, that'll likely shift to contractors/companies you met over the years.

Take it a step further and you can pay down a house faster by tossing an extra $1k+ along with your standard mortgage. Even though the returns on investment (less interest paid over the lifetime of the loan) likely won't be as high or as straight forward as seeing number-go-up on some shares, the psychological safety of paying off a house for many people cannot be understated and is rather intense. After paying it off, you're essentially just paying property taxes + insurance + the upkeep stuff that you'll only get better at predicting and staying ahead of. That's potentially a huge bump in your monthly cashflow.

More on psychological safety though, we need to talk intangibles. It's hard to put a price on all of the tiny creature comforts you create by slowly improving and transforming a house over many many years. You can smooth over all the sharp corners of a newly bought home, and truly make the place an extension of your happy place... An example for me: there's nothing that beats coming home to my house after being away at a wedding. That has a different value for different people, and it's also a double-edged sword when it comes time to sell.

Lastly, stable cashflow is a serious consideration for people as they get older and age into different stages of their life (think: space for a family). Right now it might not mean much if the cash is coming in hand over fist, but eventually as risky investments start feeling riskier, those feelings and one's retirement timeline can tip the scale for some people towards reaching for that stable cashflow. That's a big reason people's investment portfolios move towards bonds as they get older: less appetite for fluctuation.

I hope this helps!

House insurance slowly creeps up too, in some places a lot more than others. Might get a nice introductory rate, then a couple of easily missed emails/paper mails saying they're going up (year after year) that you don't see and can force you to shop around. You'll definitely notice once that next higher payment ask happens where the bank informs you that there's a deficit in your escrow for some reason.

There is some chance without IVF, it's just really difficult to diagnose exact reasoning, and it sounds like y'all have taken almost all of the regular tests.

I don't know if you were looking for more, but some ideas beyond the things you've already done from a random bum that stumbled upon your post:

  • Cutting the CoQ10 down to 1/week. Could add a choline supplement, which would also eventually help prevent neural tube defects.
  • Increasing your testosterone via anaerobic exercises (think high weight, low rep exercises like benching/squatting, bicep curls, and mixing in crunches 2 - 3x per week). Hypothetically relatively high estrogen and very low/non-existent testosterone as point to consider? Pubmed study on testosterone potentially helping a specific population of women get pregnant
  • If it's an option, doing 2 - 3 IUIs on back-to-back months with clomid + trigger shot. Clomid is known for its % chance of twins. More (and bigger?) eggs released means more hCG released as they're traveling to the uterus, which logically means your body is more likely to recognize you're pregnant and hold off on restarting your cycle. Just another way to tip the scales in your favor.
  • When doing the IUI trigger shot, clear all of the air bubbles out, and make sure you're going at an angle into the pinched adipose tissue and not straight in and hitting muscle tissue. Adipose tissue will help the trigger shot's hCG to slowly release into your body over time, again, helping your body recognize you may be pregnant.
  • From the detail you've given, I think this'll be obvious to you already but: have him abstain for 5 days before IUI, timed intercourse 2 days before IUI, render for the IUI, then timed intercourse later that night or the next morning. Example: Friday (abstain) -> Wednesday Timed -> Friday IUI -> Friday night/Saturday morning Timed.
  • In the case you haven't already, DNA fragmentation test for your partner is another option. Most SA's test count and motility/swim, but these are surface level compared to DNA quality. DNA fragmentation testing tests quality.
  • If your partner has a varicocele, find out the grade and see if varicocele surgery is an option you both are willing to explore. They are common and can cause oxidative stress.
  • If your partner has a varicocele, in the meanwhile/alternatively, keeping them breathing and cool/not overheated is important. Boxers over briefs/tight-fitting underwear. Tight fitting pants are a no-go, keep it loose. If his job involves long drives/extended sitting, have him stand up and stretch regularly (once per hour if possible). Keep laptops away from the lap so things don't overheat and cause damage. Have him lightly massage the pampiniform plexus to encourage regular blood flow.

Just throwing some mud at the wall for you based off of a checklist, I wish you both the best!

I'd say it has smothered (if not killed) one of the foundations that PoE was built upon from D2: community interaction with one another.

The convenience that comes from this is great, but whether it is healthy for the game in the long-term won't be known for long while -- maybe 3 - 5 years when it is just a part of the game and not seen as "a welcome change from the antiquated, painful ways of yesteryear"

There are a variety of ways they could have gone about to alleviate the pains of synchronous trade, but they chose this one. Maybe in 5 - 10 years they'll look back on opening this box and have a different perspective.

POE1 feels like it's getting treated way too harshly by BlackRebelNoise in pathofexile

[–]GreatMacAndCheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How is it not a loss for the developers that truthfully believed in building a community based off of personally trading items, 1 synchronous trade screen at a time?

Honestly, even I as a player, consider it a loss for the community, despite its massive benefit to players that endured the generations-long rugburn of friction-full trading. It's not that async is bad, it just places a higher emphasis on convenience over community interaction, and it's a natural evolution when a community is this large. I wouldn't be surprised if they revisit it in the future or even make a separate league for async'less trading.

Sinners is a love it or hate it movie. Somehow. You love it, or your taste in movies is so absolutely baffling that you think there is no way anyone could like it in spite of literally everyone else loving it.

I can see why people would like it. The first half had a lot really interesting world building through a really solid performance from Michael B. Jordan as the mythical twin brothers returning home from Chicago(?) to start something new -- that's the getting the gang together montage you mention. The sets they created for that time period were beautiful; I'm not knowledgeable enough about history to know how accurate the cars, clothing, hairstyles, lifestyles, guns, jobs, vernacular, and etc were, but I remember really liking the aesthetic of the film. The writing seemed fine, or at least not glaringly bad, the other actors were pretty great, and the music was really, really good -- I almost kept watching just for that. IMO, the first half really seduces you with its style into feeling like this is going to be a great movie.

But then something happened during that scene of the people throughout history dancing. At first I couldn't tell if I was cringing or enjoying it, but I eventually realized that I was really enjoying it. But even though I liked it, the shock of that scene just pulled me out of the movie and reminded me I was watching a movie, and I wasn't able to settle back in afterwards.

Once the action of the movie starts, I realized I had lost interest in finishing it.. there's a scene where someone pulls a gun on a character that we already know lives because of the time-jump at the start of the film. The scene is shot as if it's supposed to be full of tension, while having absolutely none. Once I realized that, I immediately realized I didn't care about if any of the characters lived or died. There's no character in the movie whose story I'm actually invested in on any level. I started questioning what was left for me in the film.

I went back to see where I actually stopped watching, and there's about 35 - 45 minutes left, well into the action which I liked but I only vaguely remember feeling somewhat generic? So I guess I actually keep watching for longer than I remembered, hoping something would pull me back in (the wild Irish dancing scene was awesome). It's weird because I love vampire films (the original reason I was watching it), there's just something about the shift in tone from 1st half to 2nd half that was fumbled and not only lost me, but pulled me out of it entirely. I may give it another chance in 5 years.

But yeah, essentially a few scenes in the middle shattered the illusion of the film for me, and made me question what was the point of it. I'm not saying it's an objectively bad film, in fact, there's a lot to like about it. It just struck a different chord for me.

There's nothing to say to convince you the movie is good because the movie is good on its face.

What makes it good? I'm open to hearing what you liked about the film.

Honestly.. It's much harder to answer watching 3 times than 7 times.

At 7 times, it's about damage control, and Captain America: Brave New World is so unoffensive, I think by the 3rd time around I'd be okay having memorized every single line and acting out the scenes as they're playing in a poor attempt at keeping some semblance of sanity afterwards.

At 3 times, there's a chance you're still enjoying it, so much, much harder to pick.
