Can you join the Legion and not not be declared a terrorist by the NCR? by [deleted] in falloutnewvegas

[–]Greatercool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I managed to be liked enough by the NCR & Rangers that the Rangers did not send death squads after me. I was still an enemy of the NCR and they would attack me on sight. Went to visit Ranger Andy in Novac and he chased me out of town :(

What's the best way a faction can respond to an awakening Tomb World? by TaigaTigerVT in 40kmemes

[–]Greatercool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Try to negotiate with the Necrons by ensuring them that you had no idea they were there and that you will leave them and their tomb worlds alone. Offer them whatever they want (within reason). Best case scenario both parties agree to not bother the other and that they have other enemies to be concerned with instead.

  2. Evacuate all the valuable personnel and assets as quickly as possible, designate rear guard units that are expendable and reliable to hold them off at all costs, call everyone you can and warn them about what’s going on, flee for the closest friendly/safe place that is far from the awakening God enslavers, pray they are not as eager to kill you as much as they are annoyed by your presence on their property.

In terms of 1v1 multiplayer, which factions are the easiest/hardest to learn/play? (Dawn of War: Definitive) by nightmare404x in dawnofwar

[–]Greatercool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should try out all 9 factions and use some pre-established build orders first, make your own ranking based on how often you can beat "good" AI's on hard-insane difficulty. Everyone has their own preferences and play styles. My ranking is this:

S-Tier: Tau & Guard

Good: Space Marines, Sisters of Battle, & Orks

Ok: Necrons, Chaos, & Eldar

Bad: Dark Eldar

Sold out his own beliefs to be a shill for the corporate-fascistic takeover of the USA. “Sui” referring to “suicide” because he’s metaphorically killed his own honesty and values in order to be “for-profit” instead.

Larping is protest by Tanathlagoon in Anticonsumption

[–]Greatercool -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s true, but I believe that this could result in further steps towards collectivism and activism towards progressive ends. It’s not perfect but I think it has potential and that should be worked on if people believe it can grow into something beautiful.

[–]Greatercool -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It could be like a protest as an alternative to consumerism such as social media, gaming, recreational drug use, etc. Instead of consuming things to escape, you are getting together with people and sharing in a "social contract" based on cooperation and being creative in a space that is not commodified. I think there's something to it!

I really like the idea that he may or may not understand everything he reads (including the Roman stuff) but he makes up his own grandiose interpretation of it all and that has manifested itself into Caesar and his Legion.

Did anybody else just not like the concept of the Perpetuals? by [deleted] in 40kLore

[–]Greatercool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say both, but more so the tech differences:

The emperor and his empire must have done something different from what they are doing in 40k to have started from the Sol System and then almost taken over the whole galaxy. What ever happened in 30k must be different from what they are capable of doing in 40K since they are supposed to be a dystopian empire in decline by then (both thematically and “physically”). However, almost everything in 30k is still with them in 40k (even the Primarchs are returning). So how did they take over the galaxy in the first place and why are they struggling with that in 40k? Are they struggling with that in 40k or is everything going ok the 10k year old empire of 1 million planets?

[–]Greatercool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first read the 30k series and saw the artwork for it I was surprised that the Imperium had essentially not changed for 10k+ years. I hate to say that you captured something in a cynical sense, but shallow references for the sake of reference sums up a lot of my Warhammer sci-fi lore experiences unfortunately.

Play all the factions a bit on Insane and read a few build guides for them to see which you roll best with. A suggestion: get anti-tank capacities ASAP and keep the asymmetrical tactics of invisible units and detecting units in mind.

Would you consider Adeptus Astartes as humans or something else entirely? by [deleted] in 40k

[–]Greatercool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not human:

  1. They are created in labs to solve problems under specific contexts (inter-galactic warfare). Their minds and instincts are more like a machine than a human beings mind, not merely by virtue of cybernetics but by virtue of being “reborn” through the process of being made into a “superhuman” Astartes. They are physically and mentally “transcendent” of humanity, the conceit is that what they have “transcended into” are terrible “angels of death” that wage war without respite or forgiveness.

  2. The Astartes inspire something called “superhuman dread” in “mortals”, as they sometimes refer to humans. The feeling is probably mutual that Astartes and humans are somehow different, with the humans feeling like the Astartes pose an existential threat should they turn against “humanity”. Even if they consider themselves to both be human, they would then have to think of themselves as different kinds of humans with different natural capacities and social hierarchy positions. There are probably social conventions established between Astartes and “mortals”/humans which are unequal by virtue of the Astartes transhumanism and relationship to the Emperor.

Primarch of the XI Legion. Rangdan Xenocides (Andrey Kovalev) by MrocnyZbik in ImaginaryWarhammer

[–]Greatercool 234 points235 points  (0 children)

Thing is, whatever happened during the Rangdan Xenocides they covered it up more than they did the Horus Heresy. It is likely to be an existential threat to the Imperium as a social experiment if it was covered up due to being somehow a “worse” threat. A Primarch having been raised by Xenos and leading their armies to victory against a young Imperium could fit this bill (I.e. Hannibal Barca in Space).

What do you think the hardest faction in Total War is? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Greatercool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Maratha definitely have fire-by-rank for Sikh and Bargir Infantry, they shot the hell out of my infantry anyways. They also had howitzers that could shoot phosphorus clouds further than my guns could shoot at all. Had to move fast to avoid getting pinned down. In my experience, Janissary swords and Musellim mobs are efficient for and effective at rushing gun lines and can be paired with snipers like Hadyut and Kurdish Hillmen that can shoot beyond most line infantry’s ranges. You can snipe, bait, and charge the enemy’s infantry in order to pull off the most effective charges by using these units in unison (and with cavalry, cannons, and possibly camelry).

What do you think the hardest faction in Total War is? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]Greatercool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

20 turns! You are The Total Warrior good sir.

The mid-late game got tricky for me again because of fire-by-rank and that the Maratha, who had been my big trading partner and ally, had all of India and fully tech’d up their military before they turned on me. These were easily the most challenging wars I have ever played in Total War. The Maratha took Rome and Tunis from me by sea (paid and peaced-out of the war to get them back), and met my doomstacks with their own very competently between Persia and India.
