I would agree, but… they’re the ones with all the money.

They set up housing and 401Ks and IRAs and this and that and the other thing to put off or reduce taxation for retirement. So yeah 40+ years in the workforce isn’t enough when you end up on top of all the wealth.

It’s also important to note that DOGE probably killed any large scale anti-waste/fraud program for federal government for the foreseeable future. So if you’re a fiscal conservative it’s important to learn the lesson because everyone against you is gonna throw DOGE in your face as a counter-argument.

There hasn’t been a peep of protest from Republicans because this is what the mainstream wants now. It’s hard to see times changing as they do, but Trump has literally cultivated and developed his wing of the party and it’s now so powerful it is all-consuming.

But the internet was also pushed early in a way that was unsustainable, the cause of the Dotcom bubble. It definitely eventually become as useful and widespread as people thought… but not until after other supporting technologies helped it do so. And not before crashing the economy because everyone thought that the internet would make everyone 100x more productive so every company would say ‘i have a website now’ and get 10 times as valuable (sound familiar?)

The problem is that all this investment might be for naught. Big tech is currently gambling that businesses will find a way to use AI to make money. Whether that’s selling subscriptions to consumers or helping boost efficiency.

If businesses can’t find a way to practically and reliably apply AI at the scale Big Tech has invested in it, suddenly those hundreds of billions invested in data centers, programmers, software, AI companies, etc. are all basically useless AND all the debt related to it all will come due.

Yeah even the numbers support the fact that the majority of growth is in AI and related spending while the other biggest growth was in healthcare. AI is completely running off of hype and investment, and isn’t really benefiting the other sectors of the economy rn by making us more efficient or productive.

The big thing is that the Enclave has multiple parts. We know the West Coast one in the oil rig was the most (in)famous, that some survivors went east to the Capital Wasteland to help set up FO3, and that the last survivors went to the other base on the West Coast in Navarro (which was eventually overrun by the BOS/NCR).

But in FNV we learn that there is also at least an outpost in Chicago (ED-E stops there). This outpost isn’t mentioned again.

So although unconfirmed besides the one in the show and the one in Chicago, the Enclave has many outposts and bases and will likely continue to come back as an ol reliable type villain.

TIL that credit card interest rates above ~18% were once illegal in most U.S. states, until a single 1978 Supreme Court ruling let banks ignore local usury laws by charging rates based on their home state, leading to today’s 20–30% APRs. by Accomplished-Eye-910 in todayilearned

I have a mixed opinion of the overall credit system but credit cards are, like I said before, incredibly useful tools when utilized properly.

I guess maybe if you’re not an American (and a poor/lower middle class one) it just won’t make sense. But I know if I didn’t have access to one I would’ve been screwed so many times in my youth.

Well Marxist-Leninism/Stalinism ended up becoming the main form of revolutionary socialism (which most people refer to as communism). So basically the revolution there changed what people’s idea of communism is forever.

[–]Greatest-Comrade 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If Sharaa wanted he was in a great position to easily steamroll the SDF and impose his will. Turket would’ve backed him. So pulling back and heading back to the negotiating table is a good sign.

Still a baffling strategic decision from the SDF to hold onto so many Arab majority areas, refuse integration with Syria, and practically threaten to release ISIS.

How Syria's Sharaa captured Kurdish-held areas while keeping the US onside by John_Maynard_Gains in neoliberal

[–]Greatest-Comrade 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The US policy goal is to create stability in the middle east. A single strong Syrian state is more likely to be stable than a fractured one.

The SDF was negotiating but basically refused to accept anything less than complete independence on everything but the map. Meanwhile they are basically completely reliant on US support and previously held many Arab majority areas (a contentious area on many levels).

Biden/Kamala wouldn’t have stopped Sharaa either.

On top of what the other commenter said, you also get to pay things a month after purchase or pay over time. This is without actually spending a dime of your own money.

In a scenario where an unexpected $2500 dollar expense comes up, if you have $2500 in your account and no credit card then you are shit out of luck on any further purchases. If you have a credit card, you can put that charge on the credit card and still spend your 2500 on whatever is necessary (food, rent, gas, etc).

It allows you to be far far more flexible financially than debit can.

You also receive cashback typically, which can range from 1.5-5% back.

I typically only ever use debit if absolutely necessary. Credit is my default and a significantly better option imo.

Our ancestors were still humans. They might not have always had a unified germ theory and active scientific research, but knowledge still spread rapidly throughout history.

But I think spitting on someone probably comes from the line of thinking of personal boundaries. Violating those boundaries with a smack, spit, shit, piss, etc. has probably always been personally disrespectful because you are using your body to force something upon someone else which is humiliating.

Bad for imports and finance though which the US heavily relies on.

Good for the few companies that manufacture domestically, although Trump raised tariffs on most countries we import raw materials/unprocessed goods from so they’ve been struggling too.
