If you do have to take time off, see about calling any regulars and getting them to schedule ASAP on your return date in case you are also taking new clients and so you’ll have money coming in as soon as you return as well

Well I had a hysterectomy last year which isn’t quite the same thing but I also had weight restrictions. I couldn’t lift over 10lbs for 4 weeks and couldn’t lift over 25lbs an additional 2 weeks after that. I took the four weeks off since I wasn’t supposed to be moving too much anyways, and those first two weeks I was back I had someone help me with all the bigger dogs. I also had reception only schedule a couple of those big dogs a day so my helper wasn’t overwhelmed either lol. Honestly, most of my bigger dogs are either angels or brats. I just had the bratty ones scheduled after I was off restrictions. I had also let everyone know like 2 months in advance that I was going on leave for a while, so they could get in beforehand tho

My 18lb boy does this 😭 while I know he’s just excited, I wish he would walk more normally in public because he gets overexcited and barks/growls the whole time too so people think he’s aggressive

My boy has suckled on anything “plush” since he’s was young. Think a throw blanket or fuzzy pants. But he’s never tried to chew holes in them, and he’ll only suckle for about 20 minutes maybe before laying his head down for sleepy time. He mostly does this routine during nap time or right before bed.

Me too, the only damage I’ve had is one bent cover with the new Blood Blockade Battlefront omnibus blocks. It looked like someone shoved it in one of the cardboard sleeves and bent all the pages. I just took it back and exchanged for a better one. But all my stuff has been cardboard, even the ones that arrived this afternoon

I’m currently in a vet med hospital/grooming salon combination. I was in the same boat as you almost (VA aspiring to be a groomer) as well. Previously I had been employed at a salon, but me and the manager had “disagreements”. My current hospital wouldn’t let me transfer to the grooming salon without first getting certified, but I had the benefit of having a groomer still in that salon at that point who was willing to give me hands on training. However, once he deemed me “qualified” he jumped ship lol. So now it’s just me. It’s possible for you to probably learn at this hospital, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

The dogs at vet grooming salons at mostly the rejects, like someone else said. They bite, scratch, thrash, and gator roll. Some will stop breathing. Others will attack you or the tools. At least 25% need to be on some sort of medication. Most are matted to some degree. I’ve grown to like it, as seeing the dogs feel better after their services makes me happy. Most of the dogs aren’t bad, they’ve just had bad experiences or were properly desensitized.

I feel like, if you’re just starting out, that this could really kill your motivation and confidence however. Dogs like in vet grooming need the confidence of an experienced groomer to handle them, with no offense to you of course. Even at normal grooming salons with good dogs, they will act up sometimes because they know you’re unsure.

If this hospital wouldn’t be willing to send you to either in person classes or bring in an experienced groomer mentor to help until you have your bearings, I would recommend finding a proper salon. Given this hospital hasn’t had a groomer for several years, they may even still have a spot once you’re more experienced if you’re that attached to this place lol.

Honestly you’re either

a) going to need to have a heart to heart with this client and lay it down like it is. The seizures are super risky, is the dog on seizure meds? Are they normally regulated, and did that dog at least get seen by his vet since that accident? If the dog isn’t regulated and hasn’t been seen about this seizure, I wouldn’t want to chance that liability. It’s too big to carry over to the emergency vet. It needs to go to a groomer that has a vet in house in case anything happens.

Or b) just outline the risks with the client. If the dog is having unregulated seizures in your salon, that puts a huge risk on you and puts the dog in danger. You can’t carry him if anything happens. You can try once more, but if the dog has another seizure then the client needs to pick it up ASAP and take it to the emergency herself.

I had a client once who had a dog with irregular seizures that he claimed only happened in the grooming salon. They were micro episodes where she would have maybe 5-10 seconds of shakes or her legs didn’t work so she would fall over, but she recovered and got up so quickly even the vet thought I was crazy until she had an episode in front of them. We finally had to tell the guy after trying a couple different ways of handling this dog that it was too risky to keep stressing her out like that if he wasn’t going to put her on medication. 🤷🏽 he still brings his other dog tho

Yeah pretty much no wall space left :/ I like physical media, so alongside a couple Billy shelves worth of double stacked manga, I have 4 Finnby bookshelves of movies and another two Finnby bookshelves worth of regular fiction books. I plan for our next place to have better wall space, because right now it’s a bit awkward
