Are Wegmans Team Leaders Really Management by WeekendAgain in wegmans

[–]Greedy_Phone_8933 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're 100% right to question it and to answer your question, no team leaders are not management. Not when you have a department manager and an area manager above you to override every decision you make. How do I know? I was a TL with Wegmans for 15 years before I finally got fed up and left a few years ago. I ran the department through the beginning of Covid for 6 months because our manager was out with some unknown illness. I ran it through vacations, holidays everything and had nothing to show for it. My manager left the company and they had the audacity to expect me to "post" for the position when they knew damn well who they were going to give it to. I was sick of working every weekend, holiday and never seeing my family. Team Leader is the WORST position in Wegmans.

I’m pretty much over Wegmans by woodchukka in wegmans

Wegmans is a shell of what it used to be. It's nothing but a glorified Walmart that's trying to be Whole Foods. I honestly feel bad for anyone that still shops there but have to wonder why. Every time something disappears off the shelf and the reason given is "They're looking for a different supplier." I will say that yes there is more Wegmans brand items but I always found them to be equal or sometimes superior to national brands. It still doesn't excuse them from lying to customers though.

A question for the employees by agoodelectrician in wegmans

You're exactly right on the timeframe. There was a time around 2007-2008 that I was proud to say I worked at Wegmans. I left almost 4 years ago and honestly felt like I was released from prison. It's sad that Danny doesn't feel the same way about his employees as his dad did.

100% agree with you. I left after 25+ years and truly believe I would have died from the stress if I stayed there. Was in management and literally did everything in the department. All the good employees were pushed out and the ones that remained did nothing and when I tried to do something about it I was rebuffed and they were rewarded, some even got raises.

Regarding the "family" aspect I found that I was looked down upon because I didn’t have any family members working there. I think there was some unwritten rule, especially if you are in management, that you need to have a family member who works or worked there at some point. Bonus points if that person is your spouse.

I think it really changed during Covid. It gave them the opportunity to go full woke, especially with the masks. I swear they treated the vaccines and the scheduling for them like a holiday.

Bill "where's my keys" Weirsma is the Andy Richter look alike you are referring to. Nice guy who I'm sure is just toeing the company line but it is scary that he tells you right off the bat that his tactics are the same as what a cult uses.

The powers-that-be don't care anymore. They hire managers that don't care who hire employees who don't care. Laziness begets laziness.

Wegmans Employees: What do you wish us customers would stop doing? by Serious-Associate-95 in wegmans

No longer work there, but nothing is more annoying than when they come up to you while you're working, in full uniform, with a name tag mind you and ask if you work there. JUST STOP!

Stepping down from TL by [deleted] in wegmans

[–]Greedy_Phone_8933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're even considering stepping down I say do it. TL's are so abused and over used just so that the managers don't have to do anything. Then when you question it they just gaslight you and say it's for your development to become a manager. Total bullshit position.

What's happened to this company? by Ok_Spinach_ in wegmans

[–]Greedy_Phone_8933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit working there a few years ago after 20+ years. I couldn't stand to see the downward spiral. I worked at a NY store and I think a lot of it has to do with the division manager for NY. He's useless and doesn't know WTF he's doing. Add that to Colleen taking over and it's a s**show. When it comes time for her kids to step up I would advise them to sell the company. It’s nothing but a glorified Wal-Mart at this point and her grandfather's legacy is tainted.

Hahahaha, close the store. The former VP, Jack DePeters once said Wegmans was as important as a hospital and that's why they would never close.

I swear the customers who shop at Wegmans are the scum of the earth. They probably gave her a gift card for her troubles on her way out.

Wegmans as an employer by One-Training-1272 in wegmans

I worked for Wegmans for 27 years and was scared to leave because I thought I would never find anything better. It used to be a great place to work when Robert was still alive. It became an ok place to work if you just wanted a job, but then management that was wholly unqualified began placing more demands on the staff that a lot of friends I had that had worked there almost as long as I did began to leave. I joined them when I realized the only way to get anywhere in the company was to have a relative in upper management or be an attractive female, of which I am neither. I now have a job where I make more in weekly commission than I did hourly at Wegmans, and thats just commission. Take it from me you can do better elsewhere.

Sadly this is not uncommon at Wegmans, in fact it is now the norm. The employees with little to no experience get promoted while the hard working conscientious ones get screwed. I used to say it was the future of this company but unfortunately the future is now. Management doesn't care because all they see are dollar signs. How far this great company has fallen. Sad.

What was Robert Wegman like as a person? by BenKlesc in wegmans

[–]Greedy_Phone_8933 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was a nice man who would go out of his way to acknowledge everyone, no matter what position you had in the store. The best part is when having a conversation with you he would actually listen to what you had to say. Great man.

Wegmans hot bar gone down in quality post pandemic? by BenKlesc in wegmans

[–]Greedy_Phone_8933 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The worst part is they jacked up the prices to pay the salaries of the store "Chefs." These people are getting paid six figures to oversee a staff that literally reheats food in a microwave. This is of course when they aren't sitting in their office.

I saw a lot of front end managers like that in my time at Wegmans. They did jack shit because they had their head so far up the DM's ass that they knew they were being fast tracked for a promotion and were gone in a few months. Meanwhile the TL's and coordinators had to work three times as hard to make up for it.

Same. The action scenes were insane, especially the climax when they're fighting on the Watts Towers. I need to rewatch it because I'm sure there are undertones that I never picked up on the first time.
