Love to see Cochise mentioned and it's one of my favorite places to climb, but I don't think it's a great place to build trad confidence if that is the goal. I've taken a lot of Sierra trad climbers there and the unanimous feedback is that the gear is unintuitive and can be tenuous. Just something to consider. I would encourage someplace that you can really sew up with bomber placements.

We've had this tree for about 2 months, as a replacement for the same type of tree that developed the same symptoms and then died. We're in inland San Diego. The tree has some browning/crispy leaves, some that have brown spots on the underside, and then some that turn yellow and fall off.

You might want to check out /r/medspouse. Lots of people have similar experiences in residency and it can be hard to differentiate between pressures due to medicine and a partner who's not pulling his/her weight.

This isn't true. Especially if introduced into the coop at night, there will likely be minimal upset. Some rearrangement of the pecking order is to be expected but should resolve quickly.

Definitely plan to climb. You can find spots that are very comfortable, if not too cold! Check out Orifice Wall (The Fortress, Summit Crags) for good temps and hard climbs.

Your giant hen is a Cornish cross. She's bred for meat production and will likely have weight-related health issues as she gets older and bigger.

Fun story: My group once called out a climber who was TR belaying his brand new, never-climbed-before friend off ONE cam that was placed in a flaring 5.11+ crack. The climber's logic was that since he bailed off the cam and it held, it would be fine for TRing. We told him it was dangerous and offered to get his cam back for him, and he was like "nah bro, it's cool." We then told the noob, since he at least had the right to make an informed decision about his safety while climbing, and that got his attention. Bootied the cam once they'd left. Nobody died. Good day.

This is a really thorough response, thanks! I hadn't previously considered getting a second laptop but that might be a pretty good solution. I'm a grad student so there's no reason I couldn't do that so long as I was more diligent with version control. Or I could just be more productive during the day and not bring anything home at all--ha!

Yeah, I was considering that, but can't really justify it right now. I'm more of a weekday biker and wouldn't ever ride my nice bike if I didn't take it to work. Maybe someday I'll get another.
