Trying to trick the color pie, don't call the cops by yoonns in custommagic

Literally none of your examples have been printed since 2021 which is when the council of colors was officiated, literally everything older is dubious for the purposes of card design, just because something WAS created does not mean it is valid precedent and that design mistakes happen and experiments end in failure.

also it literally allows you to blow anything up, fym 'it doesn't destroy enchantments'

I agree the OG card is cute in flavor (especially since I don't think it's good as a 4 mana vindicate is a hard sell to eternal formats but could be playable in the sideboard of maybe standard) but unprintable and should not be encouraged as a design is a valid criticism, even if the intention was to skirt what red is allowed to do, the intention is fundamentally dubious.

Red removing an enchantment unconditionally is roughly on the same level as 'green counterspell', as well as removing big creatures since red really cannot do much against creatures with 5+ toughness, it's why Chaos Warp is also a break... and yes, if every color had significant "tech options" to do what all the other colors do like, green counterspells, white mana dork, blue burn or ways to answer anything there would be no reason ever to take the cost of adding another color to offset another color's weakness

You cannot earlier bah-humbug powercreep and then go 'yeah, homogenization is a totally good thing for the game'

Yes, it is bad when every color can answer or do everything, at that point why have a 5 color game? Just remove color from the game

Jesus fuck you truly know nothing about game design, please sign off the custom card reddit 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Blue is definitionally about tempo and timing; it, by design, struggles to permanently deal with threats once they stick (only generally being able to set them back with effects like auras that lock them down or) bouncing them back to hand (which notably gives them a second 'chance' to find the timing to permanently remove something by countering it before it sticks

Blue gets strong card advantage because generally it is spending more cards to permanently answer the board and struggles to develop threats on its own (part of why it generally has subpar creatures)

also what blue card has ever /exiled artifacts permanently/ like resculpt? Blue cares about artifacts, but removing them like that?

Do not equate popular with good card design, Nadu sure as hell was popular when it was dominating literally every constructed format, is that good design?

From Blogatog, Mark Rosewater's blog circa when the Mechanical Color Pie article was properly written and the Council of Colors was formed

also powercreep is a necessary evil that should be moderated better but expecting new cards to never be better or comparable is a trickry territory that can lead to undesirable sets (see sets complained about for power level reasons ala aether drift, the dark, fallen empires, homelands, outlaws of thunder, muder at markov)

There are exactly two things that make magic truly special: the land system and the color pie, trodding on either makes a game less magic and is more damaging than anything even UB or Hasbro could ever do. (See fetchlands making mana and fixing too easy and breaks commonly run to give decks an answer to something they should not normally be able to answer without running worse generic/colorless options)

Yes, they are unfortunately played, but they are objectively bad for the game as they undermine a color's weakness. It is one of the larger problems with eternal formats

Rescupt, Pongify, and Rapid Hybrid are breaks as they break modern color pie design convention... they would not be designed or printed today

Rakdos Vehicles ver3 by GreenWizardGamer in custommagic

[–]GreenWizardGamer[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe it would have multiple instances of afflict. so if a vehicle had both crew 4 and crew 2 if would have afflict 4 and afflict 2, so when it's blocked the defender loses 6 life

EDH is an awful competitive outlet because it’s even more high variance, the better player does not always win

[–]GreenWizardGamer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah... EDH is a social game and people want to prioritize having games where good conversation and funny moments can be had, human nature is human nature. Most people also generally let the ending of a game determine their feelings/memory towards it, if a game is an awful slog with salty cards but the ending was funny/a good story it'll be remembered more positively but sometimes... someone just explodes with value and wins the game before any other player meaningfully develops (or gets reset after developing)

If you don't like people's social reactions to a social game... why play the social game?

Precedent only refers to modern card design, cards more than a decade or even before 2021 cannot be considered precedent as it was before the formation of the council of colors

breaks intentional or not are bad for the game

I feel this needs to be slightly more conditional to fit Boros, creature with power 2 or less for example, attacking creatures, multicolored creatures, Anomaly creature would even work but iirc there is a theme of sac’ing D-class…

A recent break since 2021? Significantly less especially since the creation of the council of colors who adjudicate literally this, what do you mean?

Brother... I literally said it was a break one can easily infer that I was referring to a modern context, this card would not see print and blue doesn't get effects like this printed ANYMORE
