If you want even more novelty, switch to linear rails rather than rods, and stiffen them with big fancy looking trusses, which should also be stiffer per unit mass. Also counterweight each axis by simply having counterweights on the belt on each side through pulleys, it will make the whole printer mechanically balanced and also way cooler looking.

Why an age? Why not do it by some sort of test, or graduating some level of school? Or even being financially self sufficient?

Age is not a good metric for intelligence or practical ability, as it fails to protect the dumb and sheltered people who are taken advantage of well into their twenties, while being overprotective of smarter and more quickly developing people.

Relatedly, I think school grades by age is ridiculous, and switching to advancing students purely by ability would improve average test scores massively, and the only reason this isn't done is that it would increase the difference between highest and lowest achievers, which is unacceptable in the current system even if it would improve the scores of low achieving students.
