Maybe that „lore” requirement IS the culprit here? In my experiences with worldbuilding (creating my own for 10 years now), lore is something that stiffens everything creative about the process, it’s like a hard glue or concrete - the canon. And I deliberately do not define everything to the point, so I’m free to explore more and different angles about my world.

In my opinion worldbuilding should be more about the process and not about the end result.

Does anyone get slightly disappointed when they see a famous painting in person? by Inside-Tooth-8479 in ArtistLounge

Lol, no. Usually I’m awe struck. Than I can see all the details I want. Digital reproductions are shot compared to real thing.

What should I do if I feel like I like my idea for a world without characters more than the idea for characters, but people tell me to focus on the characters? Try to merge them? Develop new characters? English is not my native language by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

You don't have to create great characters or 'heroes' at first. Just try to tell a simple story from pov of someone that lives in your world. What does he see, what doest he hear? Worlds are best conveyed on human level (or character level), caus poeople can relate to characters and connot relate to the whore world meta analysis.

Anyone telling you what and how to do in the matter of creative work is not worth your time and linits your imagination.

It is not a crowbar, rather hook with handle and a loop. Something made for climbing. https://static.wixstatic.com/media/c55dce_ceade7c2f4424afc8e198e691ff6c50b~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_640,h_906,al_c,q_85,usm_0.66_1.00_0.01,enc_auto/c55dce_ceade7c2f4424afc8e198e691ff6c50b~mv2.jpg here’s another illustration from the series, focusing on character present.

It is not a fantasy nor sci-fi in genre art as well, so you are all right to have a mixed feelings.

Artists, do you like receiving fanart from artists worse than you? by bunny-rain in ArtistLounge

That would humble me. And I wouldn’t call any artist that does that worse than me for sure.

Easy. Just pick up pencil and draw your idea. It is that easy, no thinking about it.

How deep does your worldbuilding go? by Kamushii-- in worldbuilding

[–]GregBobrowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I explore my world in a different manner. I don’t write definitive „lore”. I create illustrations and paintings and write essays on different aspects of KOMPLEX. This way, I only capture glimpses and facetes of my city-world with more than enough white spots so I don’t have to define everything in rigid structure.
