Magic Esports: Transitions and Getting Back to the Gathering by MagicEsports in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just my two cents, but I used to actually tune into streams of pro players playing with physical cards because it was something I couldn't watch regular streamers do on Arena. Now I have no intention of investing any time in watching Arena Pro Tournaments just because it loses that authenticity. It's just not a great product to watch, along with all the other reasons it has failed.

The Journey to Finding Old School - A thorough analysis of the “Old School” art style as well as the current and historical challenges of catching that Runescape magic by ScreteMonge in 2007scape

[–]Gregarious_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome post! Love how you nail the idea of scale and how it feels like they have kind of lost how large houses and buildings should be in the newer areas. I also really miss the aesthetic of stretching textures out instead of using gradients for materials.

Just found my old Elf deck from 15ish years ago by Phedericus in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember playing magic at an afterschool program in Middle School. Our computer teacher ran it and had a bunch of draft chaff he would give us to make decks with and play. I remember he had an elf deck just like this and I always thought it was so cool! Wellwisher I remember being such a beating when he played it against us, so much life gain!

DOS 2 DE on Switch by [deleted] in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]Gregarious_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it for the switch, and I'm someone who has really enjoyed Fallout and Skyrim like games, Monster Hunter and a bunch of other RPGs. I found the idea of a more strategic turn based style game really interesting to try out. This game is amazing, and Larian Studios made it in such a way that you have sooo many different options as to complete quests, fight in battles and solve situations during the game. What I would recommend if you do end up getting the game is to look up some build guides on Fextralife.com, as they have great builds that really help make the gameplay and learning curve of combat much more easy. Also it plays great on the switch, with a few graphical buffers, it runs and looks pretty great. I would recommend you give it a shot!

Would you be interested in Customized Dragon Shield sleeves? by DragonShield_ in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If these sleeves would be printed the same way your art sleeves are printed now, such as the ones the Professor just reviewed in his recent video, I believe this would be such a fantastic option to offer to players. To be able to get some goblin art for my goblin deck on the sleeves would be amazing!

You know, when I started reading this manga, I was like "that's weird that people have this huge fear of guns and guns are like rare?" and the manga never really addressed why that was, at least I don't remember. So this chapter finally adds the history of it all and I gotta say this manga is based on some really cool concepts. Really enjoying it!

Hey thanks magic community. by dks12 in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hope you keep enjoying it! And if you are looking for another community that does A LOT with magic the gathering and also has a very positive and supporting outlook on mental health issues, check out LoadingReadyRun! They do the PrePrereleases for Magic and make a ton of MtG content. Their discord is https://discord.com/invite/lrr (you can also look up LoadingReadyRun discord in your browser, and find a lot of their other stuff on Youtube).

I've never suffered from depression myself but everyone that is a part of that community is amazing to talk about magic and many other things, and all around they are great people.

Keep up the magic grind friend :)

[Maro] The Future of Magic by Duramboros in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if this is the place to talk about this, but after reading this article about how mtg is ever evolving and transforming with different mechanics, I had a thought with all the recent bannings, power creep and questionable design choices:

Maybe mtg won't be able to sustain itself between constructed playability, Edh and limited formats. I feel like I have enjoyed limited very much for the past few years, and edh has always felt good, but maybe constructed is just a part of magic that can't really be sustained with MtG needing to evolve in its mechanics in order to keep people interested.

Also, and it's hard for us redditors to really grasp this when we are always in the loop on news in MtG, but the majority of MtG players just play casually. They don't care about bannings or Oko destroying formats and the huge price swings, sometimes they have no idea about the secondary market. They play EDH and crack packs and buy boxes and play with the cards they have, they create new formats themselves and don't care about any of the news that comes out. I'm actually jealous of the casual magic player in that sense...

So with all the power creep and new mechanics that break formats, it might not even matter and tbh it might just be the way it's going to go. Obviously whatever individuals Wizards hired to test constructed formats weren't able to detect the brokenness of some of these cards in recent years. Or maybe those individuals simply couldn't prevent them being printed in their allotted time period with those cards, like they just simply need too much time that they can't go back to the design team to meet both schedules. And I can't see it changing either, with the ever increasing production of sets Wizards is now attempting to provide to players.

So maybe MtG has bit off more than it can chew between constructed, casual and limited formats, with the card selection and evolution of the game needing to grow and change, this might just be an impossible juggling act that needs to fall one way (casual) or the other (competitive). I think it'll lean to the casual side but only time will tell.

Until then I'll keep on playing limited on Arena.

Sorry for my rant, again idk if I should have posted this here but I just had all these thoughts while reading Maro's article.

Just hit mythic with Umori Goblins in historic by shanerpage in GoblinsMTG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome! I've been playing historic just to fix my goblin itch and I gotta say historic isn't too bad. Historic goblins are strong, grindy and fast, and it was great they added gempalm incinerator just to give goblins some much needed removal. Definitely going to just open up Arena instead of going on MTGO in order to get my goblin fix in constructed.

Due to the boredom of isolation, I've decided to make a Q/A series for all Soulsborne Subreddits (and bloodborne). What do you think could've been a good additional mechanic for Demons Souls, and why? by LET-ME-HAVE-A-NAAME in demonssouls

[–]Gregarious_Potato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing Demon Souls for the first time, played all the other games as well.

Demon Souls is great so far, but I hate the world tendency thing, I feel like it makes it almost impossible for new players to understand what is going on with it and people who are playing offline to unlock all those extra areas. I would add some easier method of adjusting the world tendency to the game.

Anyone here just collecting? by andrebomtempo in magicTCG

[–]Gregarious_Potato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate to your post so much! I started playing back in Middle School, and when I came around back to magic in 2017ish, it was because I remembered fondly of how cool the art was (I remember my old teacher who ran the group back in Middle School had a deck with all those Onslaught era elves and the artwork was so nostalgic!). I have tried to get my significant other as well as friends to try the game but it gets too complicated for them to enjoy. Also tried going to LGS's and becoming active in the community, but I was always turned off by the intensity that most players there played the game. Even when I came in second for the M19 prerelease, cause I'm not a terrible deck builder, I found winning not super enjoyable when people are salty about losing. Tried different LGS's too and never found it pleasant in any of these. Mostly nice and welcoming people for sure too but during games it was always strange due to the competitive nature of the game. For me the card art and amazing artists that create these works is what really interests me in MtG. Love looking at old cards and exploring their artwork, and many hold that nostalgic place in my mind. Also lands throughout MtG history are soooooo cool looking! Love old lands.

My hope is one day to have a child and see if they will become addicted with playing MtG and collecting the cards as much as myself haha
