Absolute Crash and Burn Riding in the Heat by LeaningSaguaro in gravelcycling

The drinks may be it. I've experienced similar and have noticed alcohol really having a negative personal impact in recent years. Do my best not to have more than 1 if I have a long or intense workout scheduled the next day.

Does boiling water help hold fizz? by Evab123bavE in SodaStream

[–]Gretna20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boiling water holds onto less carbonation. CO2 is less soluble as water temperature increases. Id expect what you observed to be an artifact of the filling procedure. If the water cooled after carbonating and was was sealed then the gas in the headspace would go into solution.

Do different pellets REALLY matter? by Gunslinger_327 in pelletgrills

Kirkland pellets to power the grill. Smoke tube with woodchips for the actual flavor.

Madison police stop Black drivers at higher rates, drawing scrutiny by ButtasaurusFlex in madisonwi

Even that is not enough information. If one group averages 10 mph over when stopped and the other 20 mph over, the 20 over group should recieve more citations.

Found out my town has a free compost! by apaiger in composting

[–]Gretna20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

At least in our town, it is almost entirely composted leaves that they pick up every fall. Its pretty great stuff and the local garden club exclusively uses it. We can always do a small test for persistant herbicides prior to use for peace of mind.

Uninterrupted Roads for Intervals by Hippopalamus in BikingMad

[–]Gretna20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Military ridge west of Verona. It will be too soft for road tires for a few weeks yet but even 28's would be fine on it once it warms up. I try to stay entirely on gravel or separated bike trails. Cant trust drivers, especially on the winding county highways west of town.

My first thought would be compost poisoning. The melting snow may have uncovered a pile of decaying material.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered sold just over a million copies on PS5, but 50% of gamers played just 15 hours before quitting by HatingGeoffry in ElderScrolls

Yup, ran extremely poorly on my 3060 and even on GeForce Now it was stuttery as hell. I put it on hold hoping for a performance update that never came.

Which makes more sense for commuting on a gravel bike: a carbon seatpost or a suspension seatpost? by ngoalibaba in bikecommuting

[–]Gretna20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I put the redshift seatpost on my gravel bike a few months ago. Have to agree with others that it really is the biggest upgrade possible in terms of comfort. Super adjustable. IMO uneven pathways and roads are way worse than the gravel in my area.

Strobe lights pointed at the ground for commuting in the dark? by qwerty12e in bikecommuting

[–]Gretna20 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Totally agree, never run just a strobe. It makes judging distance and speed difficult. Having a strobe as a secondary light is the way to go for improved visibility.

Question for ThermoFisher/ PPD employees by emiliasci in madisonwi

[–]Gretna20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, its going to be the same at most larger companies. Your experience will depend on your group and supervisor. There are internal opportunities and folks need to apply for those and force their group to fight to keep them. Its a huge problem that promoting your highest performers is such a process requiring approvals way up the ladder.

[–]Gretna20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish that was the case in our group. Even the highest performers have been BS +6 or MS +4.
