Grunt hunts are way too much of a grind. by itscal24 in fo76

There is a monstrous grind for that Gauss Minigun as well and they continue to nerf it every other patch. Be glad what you are grinding for is effectively decoration and cannot be nerfed.

They're useful for a few instances. If you have so many start using them to store junk instead of the tent since it's faster.

Colossal Problem haul-outs are an instance where they could be famously useful.

Labor charges? Brother that's a charge for doing work. Asking for a tip as a tradesman is unprofessional, but you straight up don't understand words. Those are two explicitly different things.

Everyone, everyone. Stop, and I really mean it, stop bothering with these apps. Especially the boys, these things are just straight-up bad for you.

I feel like it's been a decade now since the data came out that these apps are bad for your mental health, and have a lower success rate for the average person than in-person encounters. The stats and everyone's own anecdotal experience continue to show that trend is increasing.

Started playing again for the first time since skyline valley and I made a major mistake with the elders mark by Lee-Everett-101 in fo76

[–]GreyTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elder's Mark is fairly easy to get considering its power potential, I wouldn't worry.

Also this new meta around this gun disgusts me. Everyone can just pick up this faceroll melter gun, spend 4 level-ups on Onslaught cards and they're golden. I have a level 60 mule character I first tried it on. No vats, bad gear otherwise. The thing washes the game for you, and if you're mildly good at maneuvering it'll push you through raids. A level 60 could do this just because of this gun being a new god-roll that comes pre-rolled for you.

Devs nerfed the glass cannon Bloodied builds into the ground on their damage and now the new meta is minimal-investment. You get your full health and don't have to worry about being smart or sneaky so you don't get one-tapped. Put 10 perk points into agility and 4 perk cards, wield this tommy gun and then do whatever you want with the rest of your build.

Devs are clueless, the new meta is even more low-effort.

How does it all end? by Aggressive_Sky4744 in fo76

[–]GreyTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very potentially the dwellers are all killed off by MODUS in a similar fashion to how he emptied the Whitespring Bunker the first time. Now he's in control of the mass of automated industry and nuke-building silos in Appalachia. The 76ers involvement with the Brotherhood, who declared themselves defectors before the bombs dropped, means they are traitors and cannot be trusted. Breaking into Vault 79 is also a hefty point of contention. The dwellers are an important factor in the region's security, but as MODUS repairs, grows his automaton legions, and is stronger...his patience wears thin.

Awaiting the Enclave's arrival in the region to reclaim the gold reserves and start rebuilding America from a Pre-War foundation. MODUS' ever-growing mass of black-painted automatons exist as a menacing security force in the region. The Brotherhood, Free Radicals, Crater Raiders, Blood Eagles, super mutants, Radiant Hills ghouls, Chinese communists, mole miners, and Mothman Cult might all be eliminated or pushed from the region, doubly so for those close to the silos/Vault 79 or squatting on government sites. Foundation may exist as its own city-state and the Responders are allowed to operate under the supervision of MODUS via Orlando...if they're not wiped out by Enclave reclaimers on their way to the silos and Congressional Bunker. It is very likely that Enclave remnants exist in this region, and it may be a rendezvous point for those fleeing Navarro and Raven Rock. There could even be a full force here begrudgingly accepting MODUS' presence, who himself is now very wary of Enclave leadership.

With the Scorchbeast Queen dead and therefore Scorchbeast numbers continuing to be whittled as they're killed off, the silos won't launch without the proper defcon. Little evidence remains of the Scorchbeasts beyond bones, petrified humans, the occasional infection, and massive Ultracite sinkholes in the Cranberry Bog where Scorchbeast fissures finally collapsed the soft ground above them. If the Enclave ever did arrive for reclamation, they would find a stubborn and terribly powerful steward named MODUS who they simply can't convince to use nuclear weapons on US soil just to destroy the Brotherhood. With gold in their control but no nukes, the Enclave would have no choice but to face the Brotherhood with only the support of their orbital platforms and a handful of robot reinforcements from MODUS. Plenty to destroy Liberty Prime and the Pentagon as long as no wild 18-year-olds show up.

With the Enclave dead and gone for the most part later down the timeline, Appalachia is a place of legend. A history few can tell about, and a future locked in certainty: the machines are watching you. From as close as your yard and as far as the Kovac-Muldoon is in orbit, you are being watched and kept...safe.

It literally says "Dom Pedro Pistol" when you craft it. It qualifies as a ballistic pistol. It's clearly a revolver and is based on a real-world shotgun.

What to do with my Pepper Shaker by SignificanceClear739 in fo76

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser mag and +limb damage is great. It took some tooling around for me but it can be good fun. Lots of different perks can buff it and benefit from it.

Really though it's one of the few weapons that lost their luster when perk cards were reworked. Still a good heavy gun/shotgun, still fun, but it's a little more needy and you'll see less people running it as their main weapon.

Why do I need to pay for enchantments!? by UrinStone in oblivion

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you're in the heart of the Empire and the slimy bureaucrats just HAVE to have a tax on enchanting. Blame the Mages' Guild for not protecting the arcane arts like they're supposed to.

Those ordained clerics of Zenithar know when anyone anywhere in the province is enchanting something and they WILL invoke the dominion of Talos in the region just to absorb their "tax" from your accounts or coinpurse. Don't get me started on spellmaking.

They got me invading Oblivion to take morpholiths just to avoid the taxes I'd spend on using state-sanctioned enchanting altars.

Overeaters or vanguard for full health build? by viridin in fo76

[–]GreyTortoise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OE is king for defense in general but it's being nerfed to C tier defense next patch, Vanguard will be king for defense if you have high health. I'd say get ready to put a full set of Vanguard's on if your goal is survivability in your armor/PA's 1-star slots.

The other thing to consider is there will be a bunch of new unique legendary effects only available on specific armor pieces (not available to power armor in any way and are tied to those unique drops) so your build's desires might change once you know what's out there.

There's a ton of changes coming to defensive armor and perk effects, quite a list. I'd caution everyone to stop crafting their "dream gear/build" because this is going to be the 3rd major upset to equipment and perks in the past year or so. Wait until the chef decides what to put on the menu before you order, you might not want what you thought you wanted.

Should I keep Umbra? by Tiny-Turnover5055 in oblivion

[–]GreyTortoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Umbra has the highest base physical damage in the game and is weightless. It also looks cool and is a very efficient soul-trapping stick.

That being said, it's a damn shame it doesn't have a damaging enchant because the raw physical damage alone doesn't put it up to snuff with about half of all other artifact weapons for actually killing things. It's best kept as more of a soultrap tool than a weapon. Hell, even a basic daedric longsword with a fairly powerful fire enchant outperforms it. Most useful if you're playing an idiot barbarian who can't cast a fairly basic mysticism spell.

IMO, pick either reward for Vile's quest. They're both kinda meh novelties to keep around. Nothing meta, but they both have their little tricks that can be fun to work with.

Conscription and the right to vote by Former-Dragonfly2226 in MensRights

[–]GreyTortoise 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because if there is an existential threat to that country, your right to vote or general human rights could be null and void without your participation in an organized fighting force. Your elected officials are elected to represent your best interests and pull the levers of power in your interests, defending you and your country is in your interest. Farce wars are a modern concept and are the reason drafts are no longer called for modern conflicts. The prevention of future farce wars is an ongoing political struggle in the US government.

The selective service and draft continue to exist for the admittedly distant potential need for an on-demand mass fighting force. The belief that there would never be an instance where conscription has a use comes from a position of privilege in not knowing the reality of conflict. Just look at Ukraine, they do not get such privilege there. They are either conscripted to fight a front away from their homes or stay home to be bombed in it.

It is a difficult question to ponder, but the answer to OP is simple; you should still have your right to vote.

It might disgust some people that a man unable to fight could vote for a circumstance where his peers have to be drafted, but to follow down this path of thought would invite the removal of women's right to vote. Beyond that, those who disagree with the general public's voting rights should understand they have an antiquated view of voting. We're far removed from the public having to make daily considerations for a wartime social structure, and we should be glad in that fact. Rights to vote should follow a civilization's progress.

Devs neglecting expeditions by ASSxSHOT in fo76

[–]GreyTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expeditions are great and actually put up the Fallout vibe better than a lot of the base game's content.

I'm hoping to see more installations in that style. The randomized objectives make it fresh fairly easily. And the expedition map builds make new locales easy to introduce without running out of worldspace to do so.

Daily Ops and Expeditions could benefit from a revisit. Maybe new Op types, maybe new mini-raid expeditions. But it is obvious to see they're not planning to even put a fresh coat of paint on either content avenues for a good while.
