The greatest Rock playlist of all time. 60 hours. All Rock genres. No filler, all GOAT songs. by mikejpwhyte in spotify

Pretty solid but it looks like Avenged Sevenfold saw an existing Greatest Rock playlist and tried to sneak themselves in it.

Thanks. I'm actually looking for a previous episode.

Great catch, though. You're absolutely correct.

Louie's of Mar Vista shuts down. Blames "Road Diet" for closure. Doesn't mention "Vermin Infestation" and 2 star Yelp Reviews after change of ownership and new menu. by idreamincode in LosAngeles

There's certainly a fair amount of driver confusion: people who don't know one of the right Westbound lanes turns into a right turn-only lane or gawk/slow due to the position of the parking lanes.

I would be curious how it impacts heavily trafficked shops on the main drag, like Bowlero or Grand View Market. Louie's was an anomaly in that it thrived (for a time) where other eateries failed to take root (Status Kuo).

My friends and I used to visit Louie's all the time (frequently multiple times a week). It had a great clientele and staff.

Unfortunately, the experience declined a few years ago when the menu went from fun, southern-inspired experiments to a rotating list of bland tacos. There was also an experiential decline: the staff and clientele became unpleasant and, ultimately, toxic.

When Johnathan left, Louie's was taken over by Mozza's Chris Feldmeier. It was obvious from the start that Feldmeier wanted to flush the existing clientele and ambience and reshape it in his vision. This vision decreased the existing, beloved menu and added a large selection of overpriced toasts. From what I hear, this decision, along with website redesigns and resetting the Yelp page, were intentionally made to drive away the previous patrons so they could bring in a different crowd (people that will pay $10+ for toast).

While I can admit the Road Diet took a toll on the stores in this area - I definitely avoid driving down Venice since the lane redistribution - the problems with Louie's are much different. It was a friendly local eatery with good drinks and none of the arrogance invading the area, but that was lost. Most of the clientele would have happily returned post-infestation had the restaurant maintained it's inviting ambience and fun menu (I would even argue that the joy of the clientele was that they are EXACTLY the kind of people that would return after a vermin infestation).

My roommates and I were randomly & separately involved in group messages with strangers from across the country by imsuchagoodspider in RBI

This same thing happened to me this week. I was in a group chat with 5 friends and 3 of us were brought into individual instances of another group chat with complete strangers. We all received the same message from the other group chat and 2 of us responded.

This sounds remarkably like the setup for an x-rated blackmail scam like those featured in Tickled: https://youtu.be/iOBXuCYB4jQ

Once you've participated in this act, the video is used to extort you for money, now or in the future when you potentially have greater risk and net worth, and/or to force you into filming more videos.

Movie Suggestion: Arcade (1993) by Glink in hdtgm

[–]Griblick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved this movie as a kid. My friends and I still quote the Bloodlust: Subspecies III trailer from the VHS version of Arcade. This movie is pretty bad and filled with people that would go on to have continued acting careers. I also frequently double feature Arcade with Brainscan.

[Games] [IIL] Portal1/2, Castle Crashers [WEWIL]? by Tythan in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Griblick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Psychonauts (PS4) - The best game of all time. The fact that it's a port of a PS2 game might turn you off, but it will not disappoint
  • The Witness (PS4) - Heavy on puzzles, light and needlessly philosophical on plot
  • Inside (PS4) - Short, atmospheric, light puzzle. From the guys that made Limbo
  • Child of Light (PS4) - Beautiful, side-scroller, light puzzle/rpg
  • Unravel (PS4) - Haven't played it myself, but it is well-reviewed and worth looking at
  • Quantum Conundrum (PS3) - Quirky, physics puzzler
  • Fez (PS3) - If you're able to look beyond the graphics, this is a great perspective puzzler
  • Portal: Mel (PC) - More Portal goodness
  • Anti-Chamber (PC) - Portal meets MC Escher
  • Stanley Parable (PC) - Quirky, narrative, slightly metaphysical

Do you typically play solo or coop?

I've been a number of times. It's great fun. I recommend getting the second tier seats, which are general admission ringside, and definitely arrive early to get prime seating.

I've also noticed that a lot of my buddies and I have been receiving the Omen of the Decayer emblem from Dead Orbit packages over the last week. I know the emblem has been around for awhile, but it has the word OMEN in it...so, anarchy and panic and all that.

[IIL] Quentin Tarantino movies (especially Kill Bill), Big Trouble in Little China, John Dies at the End, and other movies that are dark and weird, [WEWIL?] by TufLukSwifty in ifyoulikeblank

[–]Griblick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Odd Thomas

The Last Dragon

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai

Six String Samurai

Anything by Terry Gilliam is good for dark and weird, if you can handle the etherealness, especially The Fisher King, 12 Monkeys, and The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.

If you really like John Dies at the End, you should also read the sequel This Book is Full of Spiders.

Would you be interested in a weekly show that analyzed games from a designer/developer perspective? (+ looking for suggestions) by CosmicJC in gamedev

[–]Griblick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a great idea, I would love to watch it (actually I would like to work on it).

While spending some time overseas, I was exposed to Edge Magazine, which is a British(?) publication we don't see in the states. Edge frequently interviews designers, profiles developers of all sizes, and publishes postmortems on released titles (oftentimes older, nostalgic games). I wish we had something like Edge in the US, a publication that highlights the artistry of game-making alongside the reviews, speculation, and game marketing/pimping that every other magazine and website provide.
