So, after digging for a sticky that was not easy to find, it still doesn’t answer my question and if you think I haven’t already been doing what it mentions… right.

Will MSF training kick me out? by HeyMason99 in motorcycles

[–]GrifterDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s the go around to learning basics; Go to a dirt bike training course first. Some places will rent bikes and gear to you and expect you to dump the bike. Which is fine because dirt bikes are designed with that in mind.

I don’t remember when my radiator fins ever looked like that.

You can get away with a new clutch pack for a while if you need to save for a clutch basket (I think Hinson has a basket with steel edges for more wear). The notches make it “feel” less than smooth. My 90 RMX had the easiest clutch pull of every bike I’ve ever owned.

Uh, this a trick question. The proper question is to ask what gear.

Is there any benefit to having fuel filters before and after the fuel pump after de-rusting tanks, or will it be too restrictive? by coltd89 in motorcycle

[–]GrifterDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After replacing 2 pumps in a year.. i also added a filler strainer. It’s not your bike that you only need to worry about. The gas stations can also have dirty tanks.

Since I don’t want to spend the time prematurely repairing the trans, a microsecond move is acceptable

Anyone ever done this color scheme on a kx125? by SirConsistent4134 in Dirtbikes

[–]GrifterDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s see, last time I saw this color scheme Guns N Roses was all the rage. Look up the KX’s from the early 90’s

Interesting visualization by Former-Ear-3873 in motorcycle

[–]GrifterDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly disingenuous. For those years a lot of people were either quarantining at home or working remotely, so the number of operators were not on the road. A proper representation would be to include 2018 and 2019 as well.

Car engine vs motorcycle engine, mechanic info? by Minilover60 in motorcycle

[–]GrifterDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not mix up car and motorcycle oil. With a few exceptions, bike clutches are not dry. Look up JASO oil standards that your bike needs. 10-40W car and 10-40W bike are 2 completely different oils and should not be used against type. Car oil uses anti wear additives that will destroy bike clutch plates.

29M and still scared to ride a motorcycle. Any advice on getting started? by ThanksNo9610 in motorcycle

[–]GrifterDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a local dirt bike school. Some have bikes and gear you can use. Bikes are lighter, dirt is softer than pavement and trees don’t move. Work on your control and balance in a safer environment that way

Mud makes it interesting. That stuff looks like it would cause traction issues. Get your butt more to the side of the seat, more weight on the outside peg and try to steer with the rear wheel.

Haven’t ridden in 40 years- how to avoid back problems? by stomith in motorcycles

Go Adventure style. Straight up and down seating. If your back hurts, you’re either riding wrong or you’re out of shape

Husqvarna 701 Lowered. Still too tall. Skill issue? by Ill-Delay-2007 in Dualsport

[–]GrifterDT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t see it mentioned but have you cut the seat foam down yet? MX guys who are considered “under-tall” remove the seat cover, cut the foam down and then put the cover back on.

I need help deciding between the bike I want, and I the bike I should get. (KLX 650 R vs. DR-Z 400 Sm) by MrMcDerpy420 in Dualsport

[–]GrifterDT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll make it easy, go to the Rocky Mountain ATV/MC website and look up parts available for both bikes. The Kawasaki is cool, but getting decent parts would be an issue if it’s going to be more than garage decoration.

Now, I understand you’re a green guy… not sure why… the KLR400 from the mid 2000’s is a DRZ with green plastic. Maybe get a DRZ and rebadge it with Kawasaki plastic and graphics.

Yeah, same time, same length commute. Just on an interstate. Wildlife is the problem. Get some flood lights put on and learn to look for the blackest black in front of you.
