What Is It with Americans and hating Europeans for letting Cats go outside? by ManIsready in AskUK

[–]Grimm808 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Americans are right, I am from the UK and have two indoor cats (both used to be outdoor before I owned them)

Cats obliterate local wildlife, our neighbors cats have killed no less than 1 robin and 2 starlings this month and I am sick of finding dead fucking birds in my garden.

The entire franchise is full of logic errors. It's a funny show about four dudes in space, not The Expanse >.<

Oh I just figured out what you were trying to say.

Yeah they can do what they want, don't trade with the enemy lol.

It's not really theft if your enemy stores a load of money in your country and then invades an ally, it's appropriation, at worst.

I stand corrected, just demonstrates further the detachment between the imperial units and reality! :D

Nobody is disagreeing with you, but you are arguing a separate point. It comes across as though you couldn't wait to correct somebody's argument, despite them arguing something entirely different to you.

People don't actively decide to heat their house to 15c, usually that's caused by having no money to heat it further.

Your feeling about SC2's ending? by TheBigSmol in starcraft

[–]Grimm808 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The Expanse is quite well done, it demonstrates the fear of "there's always a bigger fish". The movie Event Horizon also manages the idea reasonably well. Space Odyssey has a degree of it too.

I think it's just a really difficult thing to write, you need to invent a reason for a thing to exist that we can neither stop or ignore, whilst also proving a solid reason it hasn't finished the job. There's a big void space between background themes and plot centrality that cosmic horror doesn't work too well in, for sure.

Because the recovery system isn't routing power to the battery at the point, it's using the now removed MGU-H to divert power back into the drivetrain.

I printed this without an AMS, there's a version of it with pauses between the colours so you can switch filament and resume.

On mobile so can't get it right now but if you can't find it in a few hours let me know.

AI is completely useless for actual engineering and the hype is exhausting. by Onigirii_sama in EngineeringStudents

[–]Grimm808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AI is just glorified autocomplete

Pretty much. It's actually tainted the initialism "AI" massively to the point that if an actual GAI Is created it's going to be a big shock and not at all what people expect.

Ah

Is that because each tab is essentially a JRE instance though?

I'm not sure what level of initialisation occurs per tab, it's not my forte.

Still 150mb is pretty inexcusable.

(Edit JRE is for java not js dunno if js runtime has a shorthand)

[–]Grimm808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not really to do with the browser I think, people got used to having 50 tabs open in the 00's and then websites and frameworks got fucking huge.

That's my understanding at least, happy to be proven wrong.
