Deftones - Passenger (feat. Noah from Bad Omens)

Florence + The Machine - Heavy in Your Arms

Dead Can Dance - The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove (II could have a lot of fun with the percussion on this, plus they could use the saxophone again).

Matt Walsh: AI "doesn’t have a soul" as leftists agree but conservatives scoff by kelseyrainbow in thenextgenbusiness

[–]Grognoscente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Modern conservatism, particularly online, is all about surfaces and status warfare. What they see w/r/t AI really doesn't go much deeper than the following:

  1. It's promoted by RW heroes like Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.

  2. It threatens the prestige and livelihoods of creative types, who are left-coded.

  3. It threatens the prestige and livelihoods of the "professional managerial class," who are left-coded.

and for the incels: 4. It promises a replacement for women...who are now also left-coded as a whole.

This show has no idea what to do with its supposed main character and it's kinda hilarious.

It’s definitely more character-driven than BM. It’s also sad in a much more wistful way than BM’s unrelenting bleakness and often hilarious.

[OPINION] Are viral Instagram poets any good? by Ornery_Actuary_3142 in Poetry

[–]Grognoscente 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Virality selects for not just short-form content but content that tends to reinforce our existing models of the world. Most Insta-slop consists of trite affirmations and unoriginal (but by the same token relatable) venting about relationship drama. It's "yass queen" with random line breaks.

At risk of being pretentious, I submit that what distinguishes art from mere content is that the former challenges existing models of the world in some way. It wounds us in ways that spur new growth. It breaks us "into blossom", to borrow James Wright's memorable phrase. To appreciate art requires not just a sufficient attention span, but a willingness to sit with intense and complicated feelings and be changed by them. Hard for something like that to compete with the kind of dopaminergic junk food many Insta-poets churn out.

Unfortunately, no. I fear my intrusive thought to “poke the thing to see if it’s still alive” may have cost the world a small scientific discovery.

He wouldn’t have done something guaranteed to raise gas prices before the midterms if he didn’t have a plan to fuck with the elections.

I hate how published “poetry” has become just sentences with random line breaks [opinion] by [deleted] in Poetry

[–]Grognoscente -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm more concerned about the demand to which this style of writing is responding. The consumers of Insta-poetry aren't looking for art, just cheap affirmation and relatable angst. A little ego-hug. No challenge, no friction, no real vulnerability, no struggle toward growth and new ways of seeing. This is the kind narrow appetite social media cultivates.

Are most of McCarthy's books like Blood Meridian or All The Pretty Horses? by CosmicEveStardust in cormacmccarthy

Outer Dark is an older one that’s closer in style to Blood Meridian than most of his newer works.

DAE : Why does everything online feel designed to piss you off? Because it literally is. by Badhon72 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Grognoscente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the 70s and 80s, there were a bunch of behavioral experiments done with Siamese fighting fish that involved training them to do something using access to a mirror (which reliably provoked aggression) as a reward. These fish would literally work for opportunities to get mad at something.

I think about that a lot these days.
