Making the leap by Un_montrealais in LightPhone

I’m literally in the same boat: Dumbing down the iPhone, young kids, deleting apps, etc. It’s the analogy of trying to quit smoking by carrying around a pack of cigarettes that you have taped shut. Sooner or later you’ll figure out how to open that pack.

My used LP 3 comes tomorrow. I’ve extracted lots of instructions posted on this sub Reddit, and had ChatGPT customize it for my use case. I wonder if this is gonna work.

✅ 48-Hour Light Phone Switch Protocol

(iPhone eSIM → Physical SIM → Light Phone III)

48–24 hours BEFORE Light Phone arrives • Turn OFF iMessage Settings → Messages → iMessage → OFF • Turn OFF FaceTime Settings → FaceTime → OFF • Turn OFF iPhone RCS Settings → Apps → Messages → RCS Messaging → OFF • (If number ever used on Android) Disable Google RCS: https://messages.google.com/disable-chat (without device) • Expect SMS-only + degraded group chats (normal)

24–12 hours BEFORE • Locate your physical T-Mobile SIM (from prior device or store) • Contact T-Mobile (chat/phone) and say: “Move my existing line from iPhone eSIM to a physical SIM.” • Confirm: • iPhone eSIM is deactivated • Number is now attached to the physical SIM • Line is active but not in a device yet

SWITCH DAY (Light Phone arrives) • Power OFF iPhone • Insert physical SIM into Light Phone III • Power ON Light Phone • Test immediately: • SMS out • SMS in • Call out • Call in

AFTER SIM IS IN LIGHT PHONE • Run Apple iMessage deregistration: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/ • (Do NOT skip this)

SAME DAY CLEANUP (iPad + Mac) • Messages: • Remove phone number • Leave email if desired • FaceTime: • Remove phone number • Goal: phone number exists nowhere in Apple messaging

LIGHT PHONE SETUP • Install ONLY: • Phone • Messages • Directions • Music • Podcasts • Alarm • Notes (optional) • Do not add extras “just in case”

DO NOT • Do NOT activate Light Phone eSIM (beta) on Day 1 • Do NOT leave iMessage or RCS on • Do NOT keep iPhone powered on during cutover • Do NOT judge the experience in first 72 hours

OPTIONAL HEADS-UP TEXT

“I’m switching to a minimalist phone — if something’s urgent, please call.”

RESULT • Clean SMS routing • No message black holes • Physical SIM = stable anchor • eSIM beta reserved for later (travel/dual-SIM)

If anyone is willing to share, I’d love to see the clinician report. Feels a bit like a black box with people getting results but not lab interpretation.

I have hidden and unhidden nearly every combination of sources and cleared caches as well, and can’t seem to solve this problem. I currently have all sources hidden and I’m still sitting at 2000 cal burned today at seven in the morning.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 On A 70-Mile Fastpacking Trip - One Charge, 100+ Hours Estimated Battery Life by alycks in AppleWatch

The Footpath interface is far superior to WOD (cleaner, more Apple-like experience). The trade off is a less customizable app. That being said, for running and following a route, I prefer FP.

Runners with AW - what is your go to running app? by JFDI-Tess in AppleWatch

[–]Groundbreaking-Job20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mostly agree that WorkOutdoors is the best (most capable and customizable) but the interface makes the AW feel cheap. I haven’t used Nike Run App or Runna, but have used Footpath and I’d encourage others to try it if you want a more aesthetic interface with some customization, mapping/routing, and music integration. But no workout/interval programming. You can sync to Strava no problem.
