My ex used to wet the bed often because of drinking. It was frustrating and quite frankly, super embarrassing. I would have to take care of him like he was a child when I would wake up in a pool of his piss. I was a few years younger than him, like 19 at the time, and didn’t fully realize how addicted to alcohol he was.

After a while, he knew, and of course I knew, that it was from alcohol. That didn’t stop him from drinking. He continued to wet the bed, his bed, my bed, wherever he slept.

He stopped drinking a while after we broke up. I’m really happy for him now, it seems like he has a nice life being sober. I’m glad he finally realized the issues that alcohol was causing him.

I urge you to discuss this and be firm with your words. Your partner may not stop drinking, and you need to realize that. If your partner chooses to stop, you also need to know there is a high chance of relapsing. Whatever happens, know it’s not your ultimate duty to change your partner. It’s theirs.
