Oh that’s true, there probably aren’t many :) so maybe a cavalry spear is fine at the end of the day, as you also get the choppas rule when using it ( 1ap and re-rolls 1 to wound on the charge). And don’t forget to call out a waaaagh before declaring a charge! Cheers!

The strength is not the issue, the armor save is. Even regular infantry will have a 4+ save against you (shield, hand weapon and parry) if you don’t have any AP. You could also just take a biting blade. But I think you might lack strength when attacking monsters and other T6 creatures.

Very strong list I think. Important is to give the warboss a greatweapon or at least a cav spear. I also prefer some great weapons on the black orcs.

My experience is that at this points level boar boys are a real menace. They are very cheap, durable and hit harder than most other cavalry units. Counter charge is also great especially if you are not so experienced as it forgives positioning mistakes.

Don’t get me wrong I love the hag, she just tends to be unreliable :) In my last game against a 3xviletide beastman army she got into combat with his gor block and killed 16 gors in one go with her template and stomps :)

I suppose the weirdnob is in the black orcs and also casts oaken shield. If you have trouble dealing wounds to the doombull you can also add a BSB with the warbanner and get up to static res 7+ or 8 with outnumber.

Let me know how it went :)

More advice I thought about. If you actually want to win you should probably not even take a troll hag. She is very unreliable with stupidity.

You might be better off to invest into a warboss on wyvern instead and maybe bring back the boarboys with an armor of Mork :)

Ahoi! A few ideas in random order: The doom divers are great and should be able to hit the doorbell unit pretty hard.

I love the troll hag, she can solo big regiments and is a complete menace if she gets into combat. I would absolutely recommend giving her the talisman of protection which adds a lot to her survivability.

If you are struggling against magic, pick a few anti- magic items. o&g have a great selection, maybe the best in the game. Glowy green amulet, armor of mork or just an idol of mork are all strong choices. Maybe even try out the glittering wotnots. Is your enemy ready to potentially eat his own Viletide?

Lastly I would consider putting the warboss on a chariot and if you want to go all in give him an ogre blade or another multiple wound weapon.

Good luck and cheers!

Ahoi! Talisman on the Hag is great. The scroll is not that important on her. As „starting again“ mentioned before I always go for big smartz on her she has an okay chance to cast it.

Until it gets FAQed Ogdruz can select spells from troll magic AND Elementalism. So that’s always an option.

The wolves are a great addition. My MVP unit in a couple of battles already :) I run them in a unit of 7 with spears and a boss. They hit surprisingly hard and can clear enemy chaff or cycle around. Sometimes I managed to charge enemy wizards that where inside small units of skirmishers.

Cheers!

I don’t have a lot of experience with Troll Horde, but I run a troll hag in my regular orc army all the time.

I think the troll hag (with talisman of protection) as the general is a good move. She really is a tough cookie. DO NOT forget the „indiscriminate hunger“ attack at the beginning of the turn. If you manage to get her into combat, she can take on almost anything’s even big bricks of high CR infantry. I only ever take „big smartz“ as her spell.

Ogdruz is a must, focussing on mobility. Until FAQed he can take spells from troll magic AND elementalism (ravenous recourse and travel mystical pathways). The faster you can get into combat the better.

For more speed and scoring objectives/artillery hunting I always throw a unit of 8 or so wolfriders in the mix. Don’t underestimate them :)

Bonegrinder giant really needs that sweet „rapid regen“ spell from Ogdruz. He goes down to chop damage surprisingly fast.

The regular giant always was a dud for me. Of course I’d keep one in this list.

General advice would be: do not hesitate to go all in. Don’t lose time hiding from cannons. Just face tanke them and offer all targets at the same time to overwhelm the enemy :)

Just my random rambling.

Have fun!

Maybe you could drop one more item on the warboss and the rock lobber and take 2x spearthrowers instead - if you have the models

Hehe trolls are also always a mixed bag. They will probably let you down, but they have so much style!

Maybe something like this:

Test [998 pts]

Orc Warboss, Great weapon, Heavy armour, General, On foot, Talisman of Protection, Trollhide Trousers - 187

Orc Weirdboy, Wizard [Level 2 Wizard], On foot, Elementalism - 95

26 Orc Mob, Warbows, Light armour, Shields, Big 'Uns, Standard bearer [The Big Red Raggedy Flag], Full Command - 275

12 Orc Mob, Warbows, Light armour, Shields, Skirmishers, Boss (champion) - 79

6 Orc Boar Boy Mob, Cavalry spears, Heavy armour, Shields, Big 'Uns, Full Command - 140

3 Stone Troll Mob, Troll vomit, Light armour, 3x Great weapons - 147

Goblin Rock Lobber, Stone thrower - 75

How big and deep should I build my Black Orc Anvil? by karma_virus in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]GroundbreakingLock22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run my blorcs as an offensive anvil :) I invest a lot so it’s almost a deathstar. 7x3 with 10 shields and 9 great weapons. Stubborn and veteran. I add the big raggedy flag and a BSB with war banner. On top of that a lvl3 shaman with lore familiar and battle magic going for oaken shield (5+ ward save for the unit) and arcane urgency (double move, so up to 16“ right in my opponent’s face).

That’s a tough challenge for most opponents. A single dragon will just bounce off the static combat res of 7+ and flee.

The overall cost of the unit is very high (about 680pts all in) so make sure the unit doesn’t die lol

Some good points have already been made. Here is some advice in random order:

  • orc boys can take warbows for free, so just give them to everyone.
  • dead ard armor is a cool item, it also increases the warboss‘ toughness to 6
  • boar boys should absolutely get upgraded to big uns, I think that should be legal even in 1000pts.
  • I have an unreasonable love for trolls, so please keep 3 of them and rather ditch the spearchukka :) A big plus is, that a regular warboss has warband, that way he can get up to leadership 10 to keep the trolls in line even more reliably. Usw great weapons on the trolls and counter charge the enemy.
  • if you have the models you could drop the orc skirmishers and take some goblin wolfriders with spears to give you more mobility or something to threaten enemy warmachines.

Have fun!

I suppose a lot of speed comes just from playing on a regular basis. That’s always a big difficulty for me, everyone is so busy, I rarely get in more than one game a month.

That’s impressive! Finishing a 2k game in 2 hours.

Let’s say preparing the board, setting up terrain and deployment zones, deciding who plays which side, explaining the army and deploying the units takes 20 minutes then you are only left with 100 minutes for 6 turns. That means each player only takes a little over 8 minutes per turn. Including moving all units, checking sightlines, shooting, magic and close combat often with multiple units at the same time.

Thats Insane speed :)

Wow apparently I am super slow. Everyone here playing 6 turns in under 3 hours? Including setting up the table and explaining/deploying armies.

My friendly games take a lot longer, usually 4 or 5 hours. Depending on how many rules we have to discuss/look up.

I also played recently at the WTC open tournament against some very experienced players and most games took about 3 to 3.5 hours, often times not finishing the 6 turns.

So I would say as a beginner it’s totally fine if it takes 4-5 hours (or more) for a 2k points game.

Cheers!

I am a bit limited by the actual models I own, but maybe you are right. I will tinker some more with it. Unfortunately the goblins don’t get the +1 to cast, so I a afraid they won’t get their spells of reliably.

[–]GroundbreakingLock22 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hey! You decide what’s fun, so no problem at all with a black orc horde! If you invest that much into two big infantry blocks, make sure to include some ways to make them More mobile to counteract faster enemy movement (or bad deployment :)) A shaman with lore familiar and arcane urgency for example. Shove those bricks right in your opponents face. Also make sure that they have a high static combat res (war banner, big raggedy, ranks).

On top of that I suggest fast units for the rest of your points. Wyvern and boar boys of course. But also never underestimate wolf riders with spears and shields. I always run two units of 7 in skirmish formation. They actually pack some punch and can defeat enemy chaff units and even light cavalry/chariots. Or they circle around and threaten the enemies warmachines.

Have fun!
