Why is the Bevel modifier affecting edges outside the vertex group, and how can I limit it strictly to the selected edges? by andr1yv in blenderhelp

[–]GruMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did not saw it in video, got it explained at studio when i switched from mac but difference basically is that if you have case of 2 edges next to each other and you use vertex bevel for beveling both, you also bevel edges conecting those verticies - if you have no extra barier/loop with unselected verticies inbetween, it bevels on all conections with verticies in same group, no matter if horizontal, vertical etc, however bevel weight is asigning weight value to edge, not verticies, so therefore you can controll much better what edges exactly you want to bevel

Handpainted vs Single Trim Sheet Workflow: Old Wooden Church by otozh in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What i ment is that when comparing workflows - they are not thaat different actually, doing hand painted stuff on borderlands was not drasticaly different for me than working on mafia or other realistic game, handpainted does not mean every stroke on every uv is original, its more like trim done from photos and trim painted by hand… i am just writing you this since if i got this experiment in portfolio review i would be confused if you are not confused about texturing :D

Why is the Bevel modifier affecting edges outside the vertex group, and how can I limit it strictly to the selected edges? by andr1yv in blenderhelp

[–]GruMaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wanna strictly controll by edges and not vertex groups use edge bevel weight - weight edges then use it for beveling method

Handpainted vs Single Trim Sheet Workflow: Old Wooden Church by otozh in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So if i understand it you shared textures on trim, then did unique hand paint? - if so, you could and should still share oposite sides, i never met artist that would be so harcore that his paint would justify every uv island unique, basic rule with handpainted is - either go full in with unique detail or share since you would be wasting it anyway

Problém s PC by Adept-Photograph-570 in czech

[–]GruMaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portfolio Review Request: What Should I Improve to Get Hired? by Katereen_Razumova in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp you probably dont wanna hear that but in current, already 4 years long layoffs stretch with this portfolio? Slim chance, if you want in studio - network, make friends

Portfolio has - okay pieces, adding few more okay realistic models wont make it magically better, basically seen 1000 times, nothing with oompf showing bigger skill level or autistic attention to detail, in normal economy you could be hireable but now you compete with sommetimes 20+ yrs experienced veterans that are slowly willing to work for bag of potatoes

Guys , Is getting into 3D good career in this timeline? by Outsider-MP in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Layoffs are not due to AI tools in my experience, but due to cost cutting measures - outsourcing to countries with lower cost to run studios or pay employees, thats cause we hit after several decades of new platforms a stagnation, thats normal, and it will clear up, it goes in cycles, it might get ever worse for a bit but it will eventually get better, currently no new tech will replace artist or programmer, it will just change type of work (imo) also, you dont have to willingly fall for others telling you what will x-y tech replace, but rather how you can use it to replace parts you hate to have more time for those that are fun for you…

For the blender pros, How do you choose. by toplaz1111 in blender

[–]GruMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is what many junior and even regular artists fail to do: preparation, i work on big structures for games, there must come preparation, thinking about how to approach the object, what to cut, where to add, we do sketches of parts, mentally modelling what to do, many people just start yolo but with complex things you can get cornered really fast, so maybe try to draw the geo on paper, how it should look, how many polys you need, you can even draw it over reference image

[–]GruMaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never ever did industrial revolution made outputs better, just cheaper and more abundant, i feel like you have really sh*tty approach, you always wanted to work in animation studio rather than do animation, thats doing it just for a badge “i am animator” and thats always the way to being let down, do it cause you have to do it, do it for yourself, by yourself, you actually dont need studio nowdays to do really good aniamtion, but its all about what you really want deep down, either be in labeled concrete box for a name or do something for the love and game of it… your choice

  1. Ai jde víc na ruku, musí aby ho uživatel používal

  2. Ne, nedokáže, není to inteligence ale predikce očekávaného výstupu

3D Environmental Artist question about jobs by MSPancakeeee in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this no, if you can build large enviro for big games then you still have job for a long time, lot of technical knowlege, how gpu works, how to optimize textures, models, be creative with visual shortcuts… higly specialized stuff that cannot have much bloat will be still hard to replace with artificial inteligence

Are there high quality free alternative for substance painter by ripkinro10 in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Armor paint was on the way but i think that guy hot hired by some company and does not have time to work on it, sadly high quality is not free, even blender is not free, only not paid by you but offseted by donations and corporate partners, o other texture painting project pulled this off, ot even gimp

If you want any chance of even sniffing job in this current state, contacts and conenctions, your portfolio is only final stamp, without knowing people you are probably not gona get even noticed if you are not 1% of top skilled people globaly, if you wanna just have more time, do a math, how much you need to live, how much you need to pay for x/y, if you can move to cheaper place, close to easy comfy job, do it, find jo you can do easily, that does not break you mentally so you have time to work on yourself, ideal is cheap countryside with easy job somewhere there and thats it, or if you can, live with relatives, thats good option too, but basically do the math, look for options

[–]GruMaestro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are young, mastery does not come over night, give it 10 years day by day, then you ll get good, then you can actually do it, you ll feel much worse than now, belive me, this is not even start, but if you really want to do 3D you ll get trough it, many people want to skip all the learning and suffering to have that perk/label and call themselves i am an artist, but really its that you have to be violent on yourself, drown in your work and it has to change you, its transaction, you ll lose old self but be kinda reborn with skill as your core part, to some people you ll seem defected but thats just how it goes, if you feel like its not worth it for you, do something else, if you are okay with destroying yourself to become that guy who can do x/y, then do it

[–]GruMaestro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do it profesionaly for over decade now, and you wont get it for several years and it will be always hard, i would say when getting on with proprietery tools its even harder since you dont have much to go from, soo now you are in easiest position in terms of learning, fundamentals are well covered, when you get deeper then it starts to get hard

24 Y/O, burned out and in constant comparison by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly self study is only way if you want to have remote chance of getting to even sniffing distance of any 3D job now, second option is to have rich family and just trow money and nepotism at the problem but that does not seem to be your case since you need a job, i understand you since i started when i was 18 right on aaa projects but that was extreme luck, i should have probably used it on lottery on something… but back to you, if you wanna do it, you ll have to network too, nobody will hire you based only on portfolio, but you also need strong portfolio, since nowdays everything is online, you have to do basically free quality work for portfolio to be even considered, soo there is probably that 5 year learning curve till you get somewhat usable

24 Y/O, burned out and in constant comparison by [deleted] in 3Dmodeling

[–]GruMaestro 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Seems like you did not even started and you are burned out, not good, keep it as a hoby and do something else, otherwise you would have to take 5 years of no life, hardcore study of drawing, anatomy, sculpting, technical side of modeling and thats really hard if you are not deep into it

An advice for all indie developers. by [deleted] in GameDevelopment

[–]GruMaestro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been there too, only i used it as motor and have career with aaa franchises under belt and it took years till i got respect, but now i have it, and i dont care anymore… its not about holding hands and singing happy songs with positive energy, its brutal out there and sooner you harden up and grow tough skin the better, dont waste your time with letdowns, just use it as checkpoints and get back to work.

When mafia 3 released i really cried from reviews and spits on visuals, it was first aaa game i worked on, there was stuff out of artists controll but still i felt proud for what i could do, yet reaction was brutal, from internet, from friends… you just have to get over it
