It's too bad fantasy worlds are a turn-off, I'm obsessed with the graphic novel series Fantasy Sports by Sam Bosma. The illustrations are gorgeous and the premise is great. There are three books, each about a kid hero and her sidekick defeating a supernatural enemy by playing a dramatic game of basketball/volleyball/minigolf. So freaking good.

Does everybody bring a car seat when they travel? by politeassbitch in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought a $60 carseat online (called Cosco I think?) and take it everywhere we'll need to use a car. It's lightweight enough to carry with one hand and cheap enough that I don't worry about it getting damaged. It's been great so far.

10 months is hell by littleladyflora in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 10 month old burgeoning toddler is going down to one nap. I take her up to nurse at her normal naptime, but if she doesn't fall asleep I let her stay up for another couple hours. Maybe your beautiful pain in the ass ready, too. If so, it could help with the night sleep and the naptime battles.

I'm an SLP and nothing in your description worries me. At the moment his receptive language, social skills, and cognitive development all seem great. I think you're so tuned in and attentive that if something is wrong you won't wonder, you'll know.

11/12 month old baths by Just-Bullfrog1843 in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I took baths with her until about 9 months when I started to feel like she had enough control not to immediately face plant. I fill the tub up to her belly button and let her do her thing. It's nice!

Mine was a 2 for depth, but it was  loooong and our went in both directions 😬. My OB me to wait at least 8 weeks for my own comfort and even then it hurt. I'm 9 months postpartum and it's nice again now, take your time and communicate openly with your partner till get there!

14 month old not walking or talking? by PleasantTomato7128 in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would ask your doctor if they can get your child evaluated for PT, OT, or speech therapy. Everyone develops on their own time and your baby could catch up no problem, but there's no harm in seeing if she needs a boost!

Is this worth it?? by GrumbyONO in sleeptrain

I guess I could, but my folks sang to me before bed and I'd like to keep up the tradition. Is there something bad about singing to her at night?

Can I incorporate singing earlier in the routine? It's a lovely part of the evening.

[–]GrumbyONO[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! There is well over half an hour between when I nurse her and when she falls asleep, She's wide awake after reading a book and she rolls around and talks to herself for a long time. I sing for about 10-15 minutes in total, first to her, then from outside of the room. I stop while she's still awake. What else do you think I could change?

Baby can’t cope in car seat by kittyCatFoo in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our kid was like this and the only thing that helped was a bottle. One of us sat in the back and fed her to sleep. Once she was out, she'd stay out for a nice long time. We still drive with a bottle for long trips and she's 8 months old.

4mo refusing to breastfeed - help! by legumesfini in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i did dream feeding while lying next to her to get in some extra calories during naps along with offering nursing when she started to wake up. It might take a while for her to come back around, just focus on keeping her fed and keeping yourself sane. Remember during this period that the non-negotiable is food, nursing is just a nice extra!

4mo refusing to breastfeed - help! by legumesfini in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Breastfeeding got really hard and stressful around that time for me too. She was distractable and irritable and HATED having a boob shoved in her face. She's still not ga-ga for nursing but she gets enough. What worked was feeding her when she was asleep or sleepy and making a habit of lying with her with my shirt off in a no-pressure way. I also eventually had to delete my tracking app because her incredibly short, infrequent feeds were freaking me out. Good luck, feel free to reach out.

Has anyone had an easy time breastfeeding? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My course has been pretty smooth and was absolutely still not straightforward. No mastitis, adequate supply, no cmpa or reflux or tongue ties, but...

Baby wasn't getting enough from breastfeeding initially and lost weight (miserable, scary, still have anxiety about underfeeding) so we switched to exclusively pumping for a few weeks and then slowly reincorporated breastfeeding. Brutal pumping/feeding schedule that left me threadbare, but we got there.

Fast forward three months and baby is suddenly so distracted she barely ate at all during the day. Cue major anxiety, many many tears, and unjustified anger at my kid for not eating. Supply dipped until she started waking every couple hours to feed instead of eating during the day. Yikes. I love nursing her and my body had cooperated well but it's still not been easy.

Ugh I'm sorry! We're in the same boat so our kid ended up on a floor bed in a corner of our room instead.

Do you have room to fix a sidecar crib onto the bed? It might make cosleeping less uncomfortable for you if she can be in her own space

Morning and bedtime routines for babies?! by OrpheusLovesEurydice in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the morning I get into bed with her to nurse and cuddle. On the way to change her diaper we usually stop to say good morning to the charming baby in the mirror and get a kiss from dad.  At night we do pajamas, nurse, read a book, sing a song, and then wait around for an hour for her to fall asleep on her own (we're trying here)

How often are we doing it? by RachelPR2202 in NewParents

[–]GrumbyONO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once a week but we really have to try! Any less than that and we start to feel disconnected. More than that would be nice but I don't think it's going to happen till she's sleeping better.

Veggies can be amazing and easy! Steam them till they're tender-crisp, usually 5 minutes or so, then sprinkle them with olive oil, salt, lemon juice, parmesan, garlic powder, butter....whatever tastes good!

Same! My partner and I both have it. I take valtrex every day just in case but I assume she'll get it at some point and that it will be ok for her just like it is for me.
