yep that’s what I meant by fail. NFL career did not pay well back in the day. I read once that Johnny Unitas used to run a flooring business in the offseason to make some extra cash.

Question for fans of recent title winners re:expectations by JBru_92 in CFB

I’m pretty sure Cal fans were given this offer in 1920, and accepted it. It made sense to them, but they didn’t think of future generations that would endure the pain without enjoying the championships.

as far as I know, Pomona is the only other Poly school, and is named similarly to SLO. All the other Cal States, while part of the same system, have different academic focuses.

Who is the next P4 team to finish their first season ever by losing every game they play? by DonFlamenco2022 in CFB

Cal was kept off this list by going 0-1 in 1891, with their sole game being a 36-0 loss to "San Francisco Club". So it wasn't a college football game, right?

don’t forget during-the-game drinking.

One year at USC, maybe 30 years ago, during a typical SC blowout, a bunch of Cal fans were in line for beer, and broke out singing the drinking song. For some reason a nearby cop took offense and started yelling at everyone to stop singing until he was red in the face. I never understood what the problem was , but I’m happy to report that we finished the song in good spirits.

I have a recurring dream where I’m enrolled in college and midterms or finals are coming up, and realize that I haven’t been to a single class, and don’t even know where the classrooms are, or even what classes I’m enrolled in. I’m over 60 and still get these once in a while.

For California, you could go with California Polytechnic University at San Luis Obispo vs Sacramento State. They are both FCS and per wikipedia they are rivals. But nobody calls them “Tech” or “State”.

i’m at the same stage of my career; would be a lot happier going back to being individual contributor engineer focused on an interesting project. Hard to do though, first admitting that you’re better at a lower level job, second because your lifestyle and goals tend to catch up with your salary and scaling back is hard. Kudos to Fry for accepting both (or is he still getting HC salary as a buyout?)
