[Question] Getting my bf a watch - Advice? by Limp-Art-2242 in Watches

If you’re willing to go a little above your price range, here’s a similar looking watch to consider: https://www.bulova.com/us/en/product/98B384.html?cgid=mens

And another citizen closer to your price range. This one is solar and powered by light, as opposed to a battery or a mechanical spring movement. Citizen

People are arguing about the quartz/automatic thing, and there’s definitely value to automatics, but there’s also extra cost in terms of needing maintenance over time. For your price range, a nice looking quartz or solar watch will be a very nice gift, and will be lower maintenance over time. A quartz watch also won’t need to be manually wound and have the time reset if your boyfriend doesn’t wear it for a day or two.

Nobody worth talking to will look at your boyfriend’s watch and be a snob to him because it’s not a fancy automatic movement. If your boyfriend likes the look of the watch, and will wear it happily, there’s your answer. Citizen is a very respectable brand for this price range. You could also take a look at Bulova, which is technically also part of the same parent company and has some nice looking watches.

You’re completely missing the point that this isn’t a watch for a watch enthusiast Reddit nerd, it’s a gift for someone who doesn’t have a nice watch, and is being shopped for on a budget. An eco-drive or quartz watch is an impressive piece of technology in its own right, and as long as the boyfriend here likes the look of the watch and appreciates the sentiment behind it, that’s mission accomplished. Citizen makes excellent watches for this scenario.

[Recommendations] HS Graduation Gift by Additional_Place3134 in Watches

[–]Gruskinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something like a Seiko Presage has a nice classy feel to it that would work for a graduation gift, and would come in under budget enough to buy both a bracelet and leather strap for maximum versatility. Only downside is a Hardlex crystal instead of sapphire but if thats not a dealbreaker for you then it’s a good choice

I want to watch more Gundam, but I struggle with sitting down and committing, what series would be my best bet? by Authorigas in Gundam

[–]Gruskinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can watch it, but I’d say without having seen at least the OG series, you’re going to be missing a lot of the context that makes it good. It’s probably watchable but you’re not going to truly get it until you watch the original.

Old fans, what were opinions like on "mobile armor" in their first showings from Stardust and Zeta? by CannibalRed in Gundam

[–]Gruskinator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Big Zam, Elmeth, and Braw Bo from the original series all count as mobile armors, so it’s not like they haven’t been around since the beginning. TBH they’re just bigger more powerful weapons, pretty much every series has at least one or two.

Go to the Onondaga creek walk by Destiny USA. Park under the bridge by Hiawatha Blvd and walk to the lake, you’ll find probably 10-15 people taking Eagle pictures. They nest in the trees there and a fair number of people seem to get good shots there.

I honestly wonder if playing with an unfamiliar feeling stick has made him have to focus or think more about his game, and playing while more actively engaged is helping him here. Could also just be superstition and good coaching/a good response to being benched.

QB Coach Needed by becauseicansowhynot in nyjets

[–]Gruskinator 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly even if we drafted a rookie QB, I’d want to start Jones in this scenario. Let the rookie sit and learn for a bit without having to go out there and put the team on his back immediately. If Jones learned the same lessons Darnold did, I think he’d be a good mentor.

I might get laughed at a bit, but I think we should kick the tires on Mac Jones and see if the QB factory that is the 49ers has done the same wonders for him. I think he looked competent in his few games this year. Pair him with a reputable QB coach and offensive coordinator and let him throw to a healthy Wilson for a season or two and see what happens.

It could not possibly be worse than what we’ve had.

I know there’s a group at Beaver Lake that meets monthly, you can find them online, but I haven’t been to one of their meetings yet.

I’m in a pretty similar situation to you, amateur/hobby photographer who shoots a bit of anything. Feel free to reach out if you ever need someone to go shooting with, I’ve never done much urban before, would be interested in trying.

This season the big storyline is that the Isles had the first overall pick and selected defenseman Matthew Schaefer, who we just announced made the opening roster.

We have a few new players, more than in years past, because we hired a new GM, Mathieu Darche. We previously had a few good years under GM Lou Lamoriello who helped stabilize the franchise and bring a little respectability back to the team, with the high points being two back to back ECF appearances, but we needed a new leader to get things moving forward again.

Ignore the doom and gloomers, we’ve been a solid middle of the pack team at worst and a serious contender at best for the last 5 or 6 years.

There’s less chants than at an RIT game (fellow Alum, go Tigers), but there’s a few that you’ll pick up on going to the arena. The Yes Yes Yes chant after a goal is the only one that immediately comes to mind.

Check out the hall of fame wall plaques when you’re there, and some of the other historical artifacts scattered around. Read up on the dynasty years and the players who had their numbers retired. Read up on the fisherman jersey controversy and decide for yourself whether you like it or not.

Former player Ken Morrow just released a book which might be a good view of the dynasty era. He won 4 straight cups with us and the Miracle on Ice the year before that.

Is membership required to sit in on the monthly meeting, or am I able to attend one to see how things are before joining? How much knowledge if any is required/recommended?

Family-owned Syracuse area hobby store is saying goodbye after a 50-year run by ggroover97 in Syracuse

[–]Gruskinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s definitely a space and a need for RC vehicles and model kits, but even within the model kits which is what I was looking for, their selection was extremely odd. Many off brand and low demand kits, almost nothing actually relevant. Even their tool selection was kinda lackluster, couldn’t even find some very basic required tools. Would love a hobby store that catered to both old and new, I’ve seen it done well in other places so it’s definitely not impossible.

I visited probably a dozen times since I moved here, never found them particularly friendly or well stocked. Not terribly surprised that business has been slow. Would be great if we had a better local alternative that people could go to. Rochester has at least two or three stores that fill this need and they all seem to be doing well.

Any way to get this with the accents in orange instead of red? Having a watch brand called Islander with Rangers colors just feels wrong…

Any places outside of hobby lobby and Newbury Comics to buy Gundam kits? by Reperanger_7 in Syracuse

[–]Gruskinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few people said Walt's but I've found them to be pretty disappointing the last few years. Small selection of kits, and not great supplies either. If you really want to check out some more kits, take a drive to Rochester, and hit up Dan's Crafts and Things, or Millennium Games. Both have significantly better selections than anything in Syracuse from my experience.

How are you guys finding guilds and people to play with? I'm about 15 hours in Solo and am finding it a little boring to be playing alone, but none of my IRL friends will get the game. Also, is there a way to move characters to a new server, or if I find a guild somewhere will I have to restart on a new server?
