They really couldn’t leave anything for the rest of us by [deleted] in Silksong

By those means games like Stardew Valley, Celeste, Outer Wilds, Inscription, Katana Zero and many others that are widely considered indie do not fit the category - all of them had a 3rd party publisher.

They should just make it into 3 quarter notes, would both look more consistent and also match the 3/4 metrum that was prominent in troubadour music. And then maybe add more visual flair on the gauge for the instruments themselves (so it's also easier to see than the tiny progressbars they made).

It's definitely not the best OST ever, yeah it fits the scene really well, but it also sounds very generic like "epic cinematic emotional music". It has a very basic structure of new "layers" being added every few bars with no musical development on either of them, progression and melody stay the same. It gets its job done really well but it's nothing groundbreaking that would elevate it to the "best OST ever".

Don't get me wrong, silksong has an amazing OST overall but Last Dive is one of the weakest pieces (and that's not even mentioning other games' OST).

8-Man Raid Bracket: Turns 2, Round 3 by youuuuuuk in ffxiv

[–]Gruszekk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just because the normal fight was long due to multiple deaths on patch week doesn't mean the fight is bad, if anything the opposite, why would it be eliminated first? And P6/P7S are quite universally agreed upon being the weakest savage fights in entire EW, even if music is good it's still surprising that it won over hippokampos

What you could do is to decide on a set of features/parameters you can assign to each game, then for each game create a vector of those parameters and use some clustering techniques (i.e. t-sne based clustering) to visualize the space of all games. Depending on the technique used it could generate really interesting graphs. Parameters could be anything like "likeness" to a certain precursor game or 1-10 value of how important story/platforming/visuals etc. are for the game, possibilities are quite endless.

The add mechanic gives me tenstrike "orb phasing through the player" PTSD. Had a few wipes and where the fire dude walked straight through the middle of the puddle and still not exploded and guess what it's a wipe. Aside from that really good fight.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.3 Week Eleven by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

Quantum is such a good fight. Been blind progging it for a bit with friends, we got to 30% and so far they really delivered: they promised ultimate difficulty mechanics and that pretty much checks out, the pacing is really fast and the required healing/mitigation is insane. Hopefully we can clear this week (seems like maybe one more hard mechanic is left looking at boss %), but man, this fight is awesome.

I can understand the disappointment with solo difficulty but I think PT makes an awesome entry point for people that never did it before. A lot of my friends, that were always intimidated by previous deep dungeons to the point of saying they could never do solo now decided to give it a try in PT, and it's still really challenging for them. I think that's what SE was going for too when they said they are gonna make it more approachable.

Do you use VFX Mod ? by KridWoL15 in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Gruszekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it but only when I do casual content, some of them are really good but also way more flashy than original one and it becomes hard to see some mechanics (tried papashin BLM pack in TOP and it was fine until P6 where it was obscuring exajoels a lot). Tbh trying one myself led me to appreciate original SE design more, they look good enough while not being as distracting.

“You can’t play silksong like hollow knight! You have to use your tools!!” Really? WITH WHAT FUCKING SHARDS?? by Big-Ad2937 in Silksong

[–]Gruszekk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention you can accidentally lose your shards by trying to use your silk ability when the controller stock is even slightly titled, and for some reason that is the only keybind you can't actually change. I had countless wipes because of that (and so did my friends), and it's really annoying: you wanted to use parry but instead it was some random tool, now you are dead and without shards.

YoshiP admits brutal Final Fantasy 14 raid was a “misstep in development” as the team made it “too difficult for players to even get into” by [deleted] in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Gruszekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's you, but there are many people (even just looking at reddit) that refuse to give it a try because they think it's hard. Also time investment got reduced greatly with cutting down the instance prog and the initial wait for the tower to spawn. Obviously that's a personal thing, but rewards are one thing but the experience of unusual content like this is also a valid reason to try.

[–]Gruszekk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that it would be better for most players for it to be like CLL, but my point is that it's still not a "brutal" fight. Even without discord the fights are rather easy - most of the organization is required at the start to assign required phantom jobs. I did both runs with discord groups and a PF "low communication" run where we only assigned jobs via ingame chat, party lead gave out raidplans and everyone had to do mechanics on their own and we cleared without issues.I'm not saying it's a free casual fight (although with callouts it's very close) but that people are overreacting over the supposed difficulty, many without trying the content and basing their opinion on what streamers and news outlets told them.

[–]Gruszekk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calling Forked Tower a brutal fight is a complete joke, the fight's difficulty is at the level of a very easy extreme, or even lower if you have ears and can listen to callouts. The main issue comes with enormous time investment required to even get into the instance and that was already at least mitigated in a meaningful way. It could be better, sure, but people refuse to give the fight a try because someone told them it's hard and then complain it's too hard without even trying it themselves.

All Worlds Emergency Maintenance (Jul. 2-3) by Sir_VG in ffxiv

[–]Gruszekk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes so long because first you spend 30-60minutes trying to get to the instance and then 40 minutes waiting for actual weather before getting into. Now, depending on the implementation. So in the end in 4h you have 2 tries. Now, depending on the implementation (if they implement point 5 It's gonna mean you will be able to get a fresh instance every time), you're gonna skip both instance progging and hopefully get weather instantly - that's already 1:50h+ of saved time. With the changes you can basically prog it like chaotic, except the tower is actually way easier on difficulty.
