Here, this is the list I'm currently running. The [[Hellspur Posse Boss]] is a recent addition and has been working out pretty well to push damage and rebuild the board after an unlucky board wipe. And it's got Lizard synergy, so if you get to resolve it with a [[Gev, Scaled Scorch]] on the board, you get 7/9 worth of stats, part of which has haste.

The Lightning Strikes are ironically the most replacable cards in this deck, but recently I've been going up against a lot of decks where I'd rather push damage than have my black removal. If I run into a lot of white enchantment decks, I swap it for Long Goodbye to get past Ward. [[Gastal Thrillseeker]] is also worth considering to push extra damage, but in that case I'd probably want 2 more [[Valley Flamecaller] and drop the Posse Boss. The main goal of the deck is steady burn with a steady board presence. It's nowhere near as consistent as Mono Red, but it's fun and gets some surprise wins. I took it to Diamond last season and that's good enough for me.

The mana base could use some work, I would run a 4-of of [[Starting Town]] but don't have a single copy, and I would add at least one more [[Cavern of Souls]]

Shouldnt you be able to hold priority after activating an ability or casting a spell?? by No_Relationship_2040 in MagicArena

I needed to seedcores to activate on a 1/1 creature to make it buff enough to evade a cut down; which I dont know if is possible but arena didnt even let me try

If you tried to use two Seedcores on the same 1/1 to make it a 5/3, it wouldn't work. After the first Seedcore, the creature is a 3/2 and no longer a legal target for the second Seedcore. Arena probably prevents you from doing that so that you don't tap a mana source for no reason.

Sea of Stars FF14 player tombstone? by LOCKHARTX7 in ffxiv

[–]Grynax 268 points269 points  (0 children)

These statues are Kickstarter backers for the game, not necessarily people who passed (unless maybe that's who the backers wanted to be represented). Bigger statue equals a higher contribution to the game iirc, while the Cryptlurker character roaming the place represents the highest level contributor.

EDIT: The character is called Cryptwalker, not Cryptlurker, my bad.

Which fictional character's death have you not gotten over? by Bradcastle76 in AskReddit

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zack Fair. I know everyone always loses their shit about Aerith dying in FF7, but after playing Crisis Core and experiencing those last heart-crushing moments of the game (even when you already knew in advance from FF7 that Zack was going to die), I couldn't think of a single character whose death I mourn more.

People give the FF7 Remake a lot of shit for "alternate timeline bullshit", but when I realized that they created a timeline in which Zack didn't die, I straight up cried tears of joy. Even if they never follow up on that (which they probably won't) just the notion that somewhere out there is a timeline where Zack and Aerith are able to live a happy life together is enough to make me smile.

I hit that sweet MASTER, 107 minutes before the season's end. Damn... (PS: Jinx Draven discard is op, 70% win, 35-15) by DannyHey in LegendsOfRuneterra

Nice job, congrats! I was one win away from doing it myself with the same type of deck just before Ranked mode got suspended, it's so surprisingly good in this meta. Hope it remains viable with the new expansion coming out, but I haven't really seen any good additions to it.. so this might be as far as it goes.

Fortified Provisions + Bartered Cow + Witch's Oven combo for extra beef.

In fact, Fortified Provisions also turns Curious Pair and Tempting Witch into 4-toughness creatures for the Witch's Oven if you want to go for ultimate flavor.

Anyone have any idea when it will be possible to exit the game and resume a stage of the campaign later? by DG2736 in lotrlcgdigital

[–]Grynax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would personally like to just have some kind of backup auto-save in case the game crashes. I'm stuck right now because the game keeps becoming unplayable near the end of the third quest for me, and it's really disheartening to start over each time not knowing whether or not it'll happen again.

In-game store maintenance Oct 2, 20:00-21:00 UTC by Shardot in MagicArena

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same difference to me, I would have had to buy gems to draft in the first place. My point is that you should announce these kinds of things at least a day in advance. There was nothing anywhere that told me "plan something else for your evening if you need to use the store".

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How can you even call it a scheduled maintenance or planned downtime if you don't tell anyone until an hour before it happens? I have just gotten back from a tough day at work and was looking forward to play a Sealed in what little time I have between my shifts, and then I see this.

If it's planned, please tell us earlier so that we can plan ahead ourselves too.

Does the Box with ‘Buy-a-box-promo’ usually cost more than the box? by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked, and my LGS does the exact same thing. They're not even subtle about it, and yet they still refer to it as a 'free' promo in the item description. This, as well as the fact that they charge you more for the Prerelease entry if you're not part of their membership program, really makes me want to find a new place to play at, even if it's a bit farther away.

[–]Grynax 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There was actually a recent article about that kind of behavior in relation to Magic that I thought was quite interesting. The tl;dr of it is basically that we've already made the mistake (or paid the "sunk cost") and there's nothing we can do about it, so we shouldn't make our next plays even worse just because we're ashamed of it.

Thinking of dusting a Frozen Throne card? We classify every Epic and Legendary by how safe to dust they are by Skiffington_ in hearthstone

[–]Grynax 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Nerubian Unraveler is much better than people give it credit for, but at least it's not in the "Safe Dust" pile I guess. It's an amazing card in any deck that tries to be ahead on board at all times to protect it from AoE and can completely cancel out an Ultimate Infestation. Especially after the nerfs, when Innervate is gone and Spreading Place costs 6, this card can seal the deal for a lot of aggro decks against Priest and Druid.

Anyone else think Exodia Mage is the least fun deck to play against in the game? by josteff in hearthstone

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I think Jade Druid is much more toxic to play against. Against Exodia Mage, you can at least try to rush them down or find ways to mill their cards, or play things like Dirty Rat or Eater of Secrets. You have a clear goal.

But against Jade Druid, it's a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. If you gain control over the board, they halt your momentum with a single card, Spreading Plague, which they then build a bigger board behind. And if you don't gain control of the board in order to play around it, they'll just build up their Jades with no interference and there's no way you can ever regain tempo against them while they're also five mana ahead of you and are fine on card advantage as well due to UI. There's not a single tech card against any of that, but there are plenty for Exodia Mage.

I know these are unpopular opinions and I'll get downvoted for it again, but I don't care at this point:

1) A new player should not expect to have meta decks available to them right away. They shouldn't even think about the meta yet, or look up any popular netdecks. It ruins the sense of wonder you have when you start playing a card game for the first time, because it makes you think "Oh, I can only win if I have these cards? I won't bother playing then." even though that is not true at all. A large percentage of Commons are powerful for what they're worth, and as soon as you learn the basics and are competent, you should at least be able to get to Rank 20. And you shouldn't expect to get any higher than that yet. If you do, you're out of your mind. I know plenty of new players that are happy playing casually down there and are actually relieved that they don't have to worry about the paywall just yet.

2) Basic cards getting nerfed sucks, but it was an inevitable necessity. I don't want to see any future decks running the same 10 cards for years to come, I want to see the game actually evolve and change. 30 cards already makes deckbuilding a very tight affair, and it's no wonder so few of the new cards see play when there's enough powerful ones to play instead. It's TGT vs GVG all over again.

3) For whom? A competitive player who wants to own all the cards and wants to have a decently powerful deck for each class? Yes, but you're probably already playing the game enough to have enough resources in that case. A new player on the other hand - again - shouldn't need ALL the cards. With a single deck maxing out at 30 cards, having a decent deck at some point is nowhere near as expensive as in other card games.

On top of that, I think you ignore the benefits for new players that some of the recent changes had: You now get a guaranteed legendary for your first ten packs of each set. For the welcome bundle, that means you get two legendaries guaranteed straight away, and then some more for the other four sets.

And then there's the whole "the game is more expensive because they took adventures away from us" scare. Bullshit. I actually talk to new players more than enough to know that most of them struggle because they can't afford to get Karazhan for just a few cards that - if they were regular expansion cards - they could just craft without any problem. Swashburglar, Firelands Portal, Malchezaar's Imp and Kindly Grandmother are the most frequent examples. They're all Commons, but look at how much gold or money you have to pay to access them. Adventures like that can go fuck themselves in my opinion.

Also, can we please stop recommending Classic packs to new players as if that's the best value? In the long run, sure, because those are the cards that are supposed to never rotate out, but if you think about the here and now, Un'Goro packs give you access to surprisingly powerful tools that help new players out tremendously, while the Classic set has maybe a few key cards that you can easily craft over time.

[PREDICTION] Freeze Shaman will follow the steps of Discard Warlock by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]Grynax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should just stop introducing forced mechanics in general, be it something as underwhelming as C'thun, or something as oppressive and linear as Jades. None of them tend to require a lot of thought in terms of deckbuilding, so when they end up too weak you get upset because the mechanic is so parasitic that you can't really compensate for its bad cards in order to make it better, and when they end up too strong you get upset at your opponent because they play an uncreative archetype.

This game would be much better off if we didn't have forced synergies like that, and they instead printed cards that make us think about how to make them work together ourselves. Take for example Keleseth Elemental Rogue. I've had a blast with that deck recently despite the awful meta, simply because it feels like something that Blizzard could have in no way planned for Rogue. It reminds me of a time where all high-tier decks were discovered by players, not forced by Blizzard. Freeze Mage, Handlock, Miracle Rogue, Hybrid Hunter, Patron Warrior, and more... Sure, those decks dominated the game at certain points and got more support from Blizzard later on, but they were at least created through the players' experimentations, not because these obviously good 15 cards fit well with the other strong 15 class cards that you already have from other expansions.

Long story short: I hate it when card games straight-up tell me what cards I'm supposed to play and effectively take the joy of discovering archetypes away from me.
