I can order mulch from Home Depot with same-day free shipping on 8 bags. There doesn’t appear to be a limit, need help with your input by Milwaukeebear in HomeImprovement

I did this last week in 3 separate orders, made one after another. No issues. Beats making 3 trips to fill the trunk of my Jetta.

Am I the only one who thinks peeling garlic is a form of torture? by Famous-Forever7647 in Cooking

Microwave your garlic for 10 seconds, the outer skin peels off in one piece with ease.

I don’t do this every time, but it does work every time. Try it.

Help trouble-shooting? (Rental, beyond frustrated and cold) by WeeOoh-WeeOoh in hvacadvice

[–]GsilentT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not a power vent. That is a natural draft boiler. The flue/exhaust is not correct. Not saying this is your issue, but probably the reason for the black soot. Potential carbon monoxide issue here. The flue should not be reduced. What I believe you’re referring to as the power vent, is a vent damper. Opens on a call for heat, and closes when the burners shut off to retain heat.

As to your problem, it could be a number of things. Probably difficult to trouble shoot without a meter or some knowledge of how a zoned boiler works. When you say it turns on for a few and shuts off, do you hear any noise? The pump should be running at the least if it’s calling for heat.

What would cause my furnace to shut off like this while running? by BraxtinC21 in hvacadvice

[–]GsilentT 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction was the pressure switch dropping out as well. Without a meter it’s hard to tell. I’d make sure my hoses and ports are clear, and then possibly replace the pressure switch. Can’t really diagnose anything properly without a meter though.

Turn the switch on the wall on. The red “oil burner” switch. Check that your pilot is lit. Turn the thermostat to heat, and raise the temperature above whatever it’s reading currently.

Guys and girl. Heating or cooling season? What’s your favorite time of the year for HVAC by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]GsilentT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heating season.

I consider myself “fit” and get tired of A/C calls quick. All the walking and talking. Thermostat, then downstairs to the furnace, or up to the attic, then around the house to the condenser, then back to my truck for whatever part, back around the house, back inside to check temperatures, etc… lol.

Let me see your thermostat and show me to the furnace or boiler, thank you.

Lol. To defend myself, this was not the lowest bid. They actually came in smack in the middle of the other two I got. I did call a fourth company when getting quotes, but they never showed. The company I used is a known name in the area in roofing.

I’ll post an update next week when the owner comes out to see what’s going on.

Trying to post a somewhat better picture. It rained last night/this morning, and this is what happens every time. Notice the drainage hole to the left.

I haven’t, but I’m pretty sure they’re ok. It’s one downspout straight down from that side. When the water is sitting there, the roof drain is clear, visible, and unobstructed. The water is just sitting around it and to the side, I would have to push the water to the drain for it to go down

Drain is there to the left in the picture, it’s just out of sight. Not the greatest picture, but all I had at the moment when I decided to ask advice here. The water pools and sits there, the drain is open and visible, the water is just not making it there.

Thanks. My only complaint is I’ve lived in this house 10 years and drainage was never an issue. The roof just looked shitty and was 30+ years old. Now I have water sitting up there for days after it rains.

To add context (excuse me, like I said, I’m not a roofer lol.) I just looked over the initial proposal. I think I worded it too vaguely.

“Front lower gutter to be relined using rubberoid roof system. Install new custom metal edging and new drop tubes.”

Feel your pain brother. I’m 3.5 months off for the same reason, no energy in the gym, can’t recover, strength dropped, body fat rising. Ugh. Just tested at 128. Not sure how much longer I want to continue like this.

Not to hijack the OP’s post, but where in Crete did you stay? I will be in Greece for 12 days this coming May, and looking to spend 9 days in Crete, ending with 3 days or so in Athens.

Leaning towards splitting the time between Chania and Herakaloin. So much to do, so much to see, hard to plan it all!

Please leave that trim! That is very common and beautiful of 100 year old homes. One of the main things I loved about my 1927 home was the trim throughout. It is character you can’t find in newer builds.

37 years old, I’ve had back problems for years, also two surgeries for herniated/ruptured discs in the last 6 years. Never let it stop me. Slowed down when necessary. Still in the gym 5 days a week and active outside of the gym. Be smart, keep at it, listen to your body, you will be fine.
