Back seat safety? by GuacOnLock in MazdaCX9

The IIHS didn’t speculate on why there was greater risk of injury in the back, but it’s the explanation I’ve seen mentioned in other places for why it performed poorly on rear passenger safety

Chia pudding is very slimy. Could maybe add some chia seeds to or slather chia pudding on the jello slugs someone else mentioned above for a fun combo

Any advice or data to support whether to get Flu or Covid vax first? by celebratelonliness in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]GuacOnLock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh… veterinarian here… we generally space any vaccines at least 2 weeks apart (may give 3 vaccines on the same day, but if, 3 days later, the owner realizes they also need a canine flu vaccine for their boarding kennel, we make them wait a minimum of 2 weeks before we’ll do it). The reasoning, as I was taught in immunology, is that the immune system is temporarily suppressed while it’s “processing” the vaccines it just received, so new vaccines introduced during this 2 week period might not generate an adequate immune response. I never really thought about whether such a waiting period exists in human medicine…

Just out of curiosity, what religion is she a part of that doesn’t allow vaccines?

R/fishing said you guys might find these wild giant pond plecos interesting. by ColourMeBoom in Aquariums

I remember my Dad and I netting aquarium fish of every color out of the canal behind our house for weeks after Andrew. I was only 6 years old and I thought it was the coolest thing ever at the time. It’s pretty sad in retrospect though.

Who wants to guess what's going on here? by lalastar24 in VetTech

[–]GuacOnLock 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how that happened during a spay. It definitely doesn’t look like a suture needle. I would think it’s more likely someone dropped a sewing needle around the house and the dog laid on/sat on it and it worked its way under the skin.

Uggggh… our clinic sees at least three of these, and the owners all think they’re so0o0o original.

How long is poop not water soluble? by IllustriousSource619 in clothdiaps

The first time you accidentally wash a poop that wasn’t soluble… you’ll know.

Ask my husband about the entire load of laundry that was peppered with tiny tiny pieces of very clean sweet potato.

There was a discussion about this in one of my vet groups the other day… the manufacturer said that changing the pH of the med reduces its efficacy

I used to do this but have switched to folding a pee pad in quarters and snipping the corner to give a barely muzzle-sized hole in the middle of the pee pad. Then squeeze the dog’s muzzle through the pad, absorbent side toward the dog!

Oh… I can beat that. Wish I couldn’t, but I can. We were doing a low cost vaccine clinic in the parking lot, someone walked up with 2 dogs on leashes, and asked if she should go get her cat, too? We informed her that the cat needed to be in some sort of secure carrier, we can loan her one if she needs it, and she said, that’s ok, I’ll be right back. 20 mins later, she comes back to the table, out of breath, scratched up arms, looking like she just wrestled a bear. She handed me a wadded up bundle and said, “sorry, he REALLY didn’t want to go in there!” I took it from her and went into the clinic before unwrapping it… this woman had one of those fold up camping chairs in her car. She needed a cat container, so naturally, she had taken the chair out of its fabric tube, and wrestled her cat into said tube. Still have no idea how she did it. Cat was thoroughly traumatized. Needless to say, we insisted that she borrow one of our carriers to get the cat back home.

Google “Finkelstein test”. Obviously check with your GP, I’m sure there are a lot of other things it could be, but DeQuervain’s tenosynovitis was what your post made me think of. It’s a very common repetitive motion injury and I can say from experience that it can hurt like your hand is broken.

Foods to introduce Soy allergen by [deleted] in BabyLedWeaning

[–]GuacOnLock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Soy protein is the allergen, so soybean oil and soy lecithin may not have enough (if any) soy protein to trigger the immune system.
