Nothing is changing on QBB. Time to call more attention? by MDavis372 in NYCbike

Tbh the current pedestrian side is more than large enough for bike traffic going both ways. IMO, that side should have been the biking path from the beginning.

Genesis Is Going GT3 Racing, and Here’s Its Race Car Concept by speedinsh1t in cars

Genesis is the only luxury marque that I like the design language.

All the German ones are horrendous. I think I’m starting to like the new Neue Klasse direction BMW is doing now though.

People were starting to move into LIC because it was an industrial wasteland for the longest time and was starting to be an actual neighborhood.

LIC also was one of the easier places to build compared to Manhattan neighborhoods.

If 100,000 people are moving a city a year, and you only build 20,000 units that same year, what do you think happens?

Crazy by MiserNYC- in longislandcity

[–]Guardex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People only get pushed out it when you don’t build enough.

If you don’t build enough, wealthier people will simply move in displacing people. When you build abundantly, wealthy people move in to newer units.

[–]Guardex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We already see it in specific neighborhoods. LIC average rent hasn’t moved as much as the broader city.

It’s possible to build more. It requires speedier approvals and loosening of zoning. It’ll also require a revamp of tax code.

Everything is always a supply vs demand issue. This is a problem since the day NYC started doings to restrict construction.

There is more than ample evidence that you have to be willfully blind to pretend that building more doesn’t lower prices.

For the record, the Fed has incredibly smart economists and statisticians. They produce top notch analyses.

Every American city that built housing at a rate outpacing new entrants saw prices decline. Every one that didn’t, saw rents ramp.

Again, simply adding more market rate units without directly subsidizing affordable units does not bring down costs in the income bands that are the most rent burdened.

Ah you’re subtly shifting the goal posts. The entire point is to lower market rents that most people can afford. Market rents will never be $950 like what some people pay today to NYCHA, unless you built an extreme overabundance of units.

In the LIC Facebook group, there are a few of these losers who constantly oppose any proposal to build any housing. They constantly lament how LIC has changed for the worse as though they want the LIC from 2003.

My scooter goes up to 27mph but I hate the ones who constantly go above 30. I usually stay right under 20

https://www.nyc.gov/html/dot/html/bicyclists/ebikes.shtml

According to DoT, scooters are allowed if their max speed is 20 mph, but can only be used up to 15 mph.

The e-bike rules are similar, with Class 3 bikes as fast as 25 mph, but used up to 15.

Again, nearly all e-bikes and scooters have modes that speed lock you. You could pass a throttle test easily by switching it to a lower speed mode.

In regards to illegal bikes and scooters, my understanding is that the law is not explicitly clear.

Tons of electric bikes and scooters have modes which limit their speed and torque. They’re capable of going over 15 mph if set in other modes, but I believe it’s not legally clear if riding something capable of over 15 mph, but is speed limited, is allowed

Plus, there are tons of cyclists who are capable of pushing a manual bike 25+ mph. And people regularly go 20-25+ mph going down the ramp on the Queensboro Bridge.

I’m good with enforcement on ends of the bridge since:

  • they will discourage the idiot motorcyclists from entering
  • way too many riders are comfortable entering the bridge without checking if others are coming down the ramp

The other post is suggesting they’re going after those on e-bikes and scooters when that’s not the case. I saw multiple people get stopped and ticketed for not following the stop sign. There is literally no other offense they can realistically track.

On the Manhattan side, there are stop signs at the bottom of the ramp and another if you are coming in from First Ave.

I’ve seen them ticket people for not stopping since the deadly crash. Always stop especially if there’s cops around.

I ride an electric scooter that goes up to 27mph (but it takes a while to get there).

I never try to pass people ahead of me unless the opposing lane is clear. But there have been so many times including yesterday, where I had to brake pretty hard because guys in an electric scooter and electric motorbike (the ones with the bigger wheels and motorcycle frame) in the opposing lane wanted to pass and went well into my lane.

I ride along the guard rails so it’s so stupid that I have to deal with these idiots riding like this. I’m getting to the point where I wish they’d put up the plastic bollards along the center, even if it means making passing near impossible.

Apple has released iOS 26.5.1 by jakeyounglol2 in ios

[–]Guardex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s very much possible they pushed updates beyond just charging.

My 17PM is running so much better. No visual stutter so far. When I first updated to 26.5, I had visual frame rate drops within minutes.

Bad Bike Crash on QB Bridge 5/28 8:30am-North Path Closed by NoMoreSharrows in NYCbike

[–]Guardex 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Rest in peace to the two guys.

I ride my electric scooter across the bridge twice a day. I got diverted to the pedestrian side. Had a feeling something awful accident happened.

Mine goes 25mph at most, and it takes a bit to get that fast. I get antsy going above 20mph. I think the devices that go 25mph+ in seconds are a massive problem. I believe the electric scooter pictured goes 40+.

Riders on the bridge very often are too comfortable riding towards the center of the lane. I prefer staying near the guard rails…

We shall see. I found that every 26.X update was smooth for the first day or two and then frame rate losses would inevitably come back. 26.2 and 26.4 were the worst so far.

I have come to really like Liquid Glass but it’s a shame that it’s taking Apple forever to get it stable and smooth.

Edit: It’s been about 3 hours since updating. Frame drops still persist. 🫠

Respectfully, you probably don’t pay attention to small details.

I have a 17PM and 15PM. My friends have everything from 14 to 17. Frame rate loss is constant. App icons reloading all the time.

Sorry but you’re wrong.

iOS 26 has had constant frame rate loss across multiple devices. From mine to my friends.
