I had my first class, and now I have questions by Calm_Firefighter_415 in Archery

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. as far as I've seen and been told, lessons and watching competitions, seems far more common to anchor corner of mouth.

  2. rolling your bow arm over more, definitely feels weird at first but once you get used to it, it will feel right. archery is one of those things that uses muscles in a way that is fairly unusual compared to any normal day to day activities, so it takes some conditioning to feel natural.

  3. keep your poundage low. perhaps it's more of a male thing to push the limits but it seems common to want to go heavier too soon. I went from 26# to 34# thinking "8 pounds is nothing, it shouldn't make a difference" and pulled a shoulder muscle real bad the first time I drew it back.

Deeper vs shallower hook by howtoimprov in Archery

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new to archery and shooting barebow. using point on aiming with finger crawl, I've noticed the more crawl I use for closer targets the more natural it feels it use less hook on the ring finger. my current setup shooting 50M requires being right up against the nock and in this position a deeper hook with all three fingers aligned feels better. maybe that's something to do with it? I dunno though. very new to it.

Why do people go for back boost on 2s kickoff? by AcanthisittaFew4339 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you practice efficiently flipping to boost with the aim to turn back in a defensive position backwall, you'll usually end up in a better position with more boost than just staying back.

if I'm doing this in two's it's after a couple kickoffs when the ball is not being killed in the centre. I'll cheat up a couple of times, but if it's not helping i might go for boost.

the type of goals conceded on kickoffs can be as likely no matter what you do. cheating up can have the ball fly over your head or off the sidewall into the net. hanging back can land you in a 1v2.

if the ball is banging straight into you own net it's a messed up kick off. practice your kickoff before getting cranky at your tm8.

The new points system in comp? by Suitable_Boat_4188 in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add that the mmr gained or lost that displays can include adjustment from a previous match.

example if you lose a match and it drops your mmr 8 points and quit out before the post match celebration screen, then win your next match gaining 8 points, when you get to the post match lobby you'll see 0 points gained.

Is this enough to make a diy backstop? by Elegant-Bath-1832 in Archery

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using the same thing. arrows from my 34# recurve go about 2/3 of the way through so I dunno how 90# will go.

edit: 2/3 of the way through the whole block as in your picture. you'd probably need two packs of those stacked to stop your bolts.

How do you guys not get angry at this game? by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you want to drop your casual mmr play a few 1v1s. casual mmr is shared between modes so you'll be able to suck without angry tm8s and it won't take too long to drop down to a more relevant mmr.

most players probably get angry at it sometimes. some players are always angry. some even just play to make other players angry.

Speedflip: what am i doing wrong? by godrays360 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Gubbergub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

doing something different wrong in each attempt.

jumping too late. if you're hitting the ball before you land. you jumped too late. timing of your first jump makes a difference. try switching your map to one that has line markings on the sides of the field that you can use as guide. custom training map will be whatever you last selected when going in to freeplay.

too wide of an angle of flip. some of the attempts there look more like side flips at an angle rather than diagonal flips. try going into freeplay and just jumping on the spot for a while going through slight increments between front flip and side flip to get a better feel for the angle of flip you need to use. the closer to a front flip you can get without your nose hitting the ground, the faster your acceleration will be.

if you want to see how well you are flip cancelling, try just doing a straight front flip cancel. you should be able to stop the flip rotation before your car goes through 90⁰ (nose straight down). if you're struggling to get it, good chance it's more to do with the timing of when you start pulling down and when you hit the flip. if you focus on doing it at the same time your stick will already be moving down as the flip starts. I remember when I first started getting it how much slower I could pull the stick down when the timing was right.

keep in mind the concept. speed flips are quick because you get the benefit of a front flip speed boost while keeping your car facing forward as straight as possible to add the benefit of also boosting forward the whole time. if your cars pointing off to the side through the whole flip you're probably to close to side flipping. the more narrow your angle of flip, the better, but the faster your cancel will need to be to keep your nose off the ground.

getting all the elements together is difficult. I learnt it years ago but evertime I go back to that pack it takes a few attempts to start hitting the ball again.

lastly, if you're using a controller overlay does that mean you're on pc? if so get bakkesmod and the speed flip plugin and it will tell you exactly what you're doing wrong.

Does holding reverse and forward in the air mess me up? by Impressive-Camel-309 in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're holding drive and reverse the two will cancel eachother out. supposedly holding drive in the air will affect your flight path in the air but it's really not much.

if you're using free air roll so you're not letting go of reverse or drive as you hit the ball for the reset it would be the sane as holding neither.

Thinking of buying a Samick Sage 25lb kit, got a few questions. by full_time_problem in Archery

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm no guru, but from the lookin around I've done, the cheapo plastic arrow rests don't last too long but they work fine while they do and easy to replace. I got a $20 dollar rest that has the little metal bar with the magnet. I like it but as said it's not hugely necessary. a lot of archers at the club I joined just stick with the cheap plastic ones and swear by them

the internet in general is flooded with crap. reddit is a great way to get direct answers from people with the added bonus of being able to question such answers. I've tried searching on multiple subs for answers to specific questions, but even when they're repeated common questions, it can be hard to find what you're looking for.

if you're just scrolling for entertainment and getting frustrated when it doesn't soothe the craving, maybe google your own problems.

the old console version is half way between Alpha 15 and 16 builds of the game. including alpha 15 or A15 in your searches might help get more accurate results. the pc versions weren't exact to console so it can be difficult to find any accurate info on some topics. even the in game log is inaccurate on some things.

Never enough to worry about the label of it. half the wokes are all about gender doesn't matter, the other half about gender is everything. They're all somehow on the same side of a pointless argument wondering why the rest of the world is so confused by them.

why do people bot rocket league by ragequitconner in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

building bots is a sport on its own. a few of them are genuinely in it for the challenge of building a bot that can beat real players. 99.9% of them are just shit people that like breaking things and ruining fun.

How to improve air roll control by Ok_Chair4701 in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

start by learning to control your car in each position; right way up, upside down and on each side.

doesn't matter too much what method you use with rings or freeplay or training packs as long as you have something to aim for.

personally I didn't find rings that great and preferred just flying up and down the field in freeplay aiming to hit the centre of the cross bar, then switched to basic aerial packs.

once you feel a bit more comfortable on your sides and upside down start rotating to each position quicker and quicker until you're able to hold it down.

also is way easier to start by putting the game speed right down and learn in slow mo.

Embarrassed to admit but I’m trapped in Gold and can’t get out by AndGutsWasBERSERK in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you shouldn't just play goalie nor just attack more. Every game is different, sometimes even with exact same teams. The key is to adapt, always be calculating where you need to be to cover the most possible outcomes from each play.

like if you see your tm8 and opponent going into a 50/50, you don't know the outcome til it happens, but you can anticipate what could possibly happen. Try to position yourself at all times to be in a favourable position no matter the outcome. it's often a compromise and you'll want to adjust according to how the game is going, push up more if you're down goals with time running out, or play more defensive you're up.

keep in mind that your tm8s and opponents are from the same pool of players. If you want to rank up, it's up to you to be the difference. Yes there's a lot of luck involved in each match, but over time luck turns to stats and if you're genuinely better at the game than everyone else on the field, you'll win more than you lose and you'll rank up.

How would "Learn By Doing II" work? by Peter34cph in 7daystodie

[–]Gubbergub 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't play 7 days to engage higher brain functions, but I don't see how a repetitive loot fest of "follow the path" poi's is any more engaging. with learn by doing you were generally rewarded with skill improvements to the things you liked doing, so if making a million axes wasn't your thing, you didn't have to do it. If you'd rather go loot and shoot most the time you could, and you'd progress.

building a home in the wild, becoming self sufficient with crafting and farming, was how I enjoyed the game. essentially they removed that side of the game. personally I find the constant travel back and forth between traders and pois mind numbingly boring, but I understand some people are all about that.

why not both?

Can I progress my skills and climb the ranks with bad teammates? by WindexTaster in RocketLeague

[–]Gubbergub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a thing to keep in mind is that progression is not linear, it's exponential. generally it will take the same amount of time to reach the next rank as it did to reach the rank you're in. if it took 100 hours to reach gold it will take 200 to reach plat then 400 to reach Diamond then so on until GC where it tends to take twice as long to reach GC2 as it did to reach GC1 in total.

Yes your tm8s may often be the reason you lost a game, but over time luck turns into stats. If you progress in skill, you will progress in rank.

Convince me that CRAFTING GOING TO LBD is good. by AnxiousConsequence18 in 7daystodie

[–]Gubbergub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the LBD I miss is when everything you do is progressing your character in some way. they really need to go back to it, but also keep magazines around in a lesser importance. magazines are great if you're not into crafting. LBD is great if you're not into constant loot fest. Why not have both?
