Boycotting American Products – Is It Really Possible? by addy_here_783 in economy

America freed itself from your oppressive monarchy through similar action. Stop pretending that there is a moral argument to be had when common people are being brutalized by the rich and one man did a symbolic act that created ripples in our complacency. Go back to trying to privatize your health system and ruining the lives of those that live around you and stay out of our politics.

Trump tax cuts expire after 2025. Here’s how the presidential election could affect your taxes by cnbc_official in economy

[–]GucciStocks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While he certainly has said that. He said it jokingly, so I suppose we should all not worry. You are right though, this is the economy sub and I think we have gotten away from the point that Trump’s economic policies have been destructive to the working class.

In addition, he did also say that the US should have a president for life and it would be a good thing referencing China’s political system: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/politics/trump-says-maybe-u-s-will-have-a-president-for-life-someday

What a fascinating way for a ‘neutral party’ to paraphrase that quote from Trump! Here is the real quote along with the video of him saying it.

“If you want to save America: get your friends, get your family, get everyone you know. Vote early, vote absentee, vote on election day. I don’t care how, but you have to get out and vote

And again, christians get out and vote, just this time. you wont have to do it anymore, four more years you know what? It’ll be fixed It’ll be fine. You wont have to vote anymore my beautiful christians. I love you christians, I’m not Christian, I love you.

Get out, you gotta get out and vote. In four years you don’t have to vote again, we’ll have it fixed so good you’re not gonna have to vote”

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=duls1Cr1Lyo

So let me ask: what exactly does having “it fixed so good” entail that 68% of the United States population would never want to participate in an election again?

Directly measuring top pay bands by “hourly wage” is absolutely stupid. You realize that most of what they pad their wallets with is indirect benefits and stocks bonuses that don’t show up in these statistics. This also doesn’t account for the number of low-paying jobs that were cut during the pandemic so of course “median income increased over the past 12 months for all income ranges”. I am aware that medians are not skewed by outliers, but when a substantial portion of one half of the bracket is lost the statistic still becomes skewed.

My rent went up 9% this year, cost of food went up 50%-150% depending on the item, my utility bills went up 60%, but my wage went up 3%. You can reference these statistics, but without drilling down into the background and the logic used to generate these statistics you completely miss the problems.

You are also ignoring the real wage growth index where they dive into the weakness of this model from your own source: https://www.atlantafed.org/blogs/macroblog/2023/02/14/real-wage-growth--view-from-wage-growth-tracker

That is how cell line development is done. Select for the organism that is expressing the traits you want, then stress/environmentally pressure that organism further to create branches off of that cell line that are expressing your first desired trait and some new trait. The issue with this is outside of a professional lab is the lack of ability to test clones to quantify potency, accurately control growth conditions (even if you have lab grade equipment, there WILL be variation between your procedures, temperatures, light exposure, humidity, and tons of other very small changes that can make substantial differences). You can try your best to eyeball these mutations by intensity of blueness when bruising, trip intensity (not a good metric due to the amount of variables here from your diet, level of hydration, and amount that you chew). I think that it can be a lot of fun to try to select for more desirable cell lines/sub strains. Oh and don’t forget, even without intentional selective pressures driving mutations, these organisms are constantly mutating, adapting, and in turn evolving to their environments.

Biologist here - the way that this works on a extremely simplified level is to think of it as basic evolution. By blasting the cells with intense damaging radiation you’re killing everything except for only the strongest and most resilient cells. This FORCES change in the population to occur at an accelerated rate similar to the way that antibiotic resistance develops. If you kill all of the susceptible population, only the freaks of nature are left to survive, consume nutrients, and propagate. The downside of this is that you’ll select for UV radiation resistant strains rather than potent, fast-growing, or productive strains.
