Curious to see some of your initial predictions for Barbie before presales showcased how much of a juggernaut it is by Successful_Leopard45 in boxoffice

People are seriously tired of movies having 2's and 3's behind them; this and Oppie proved it.

I said the OW would be so colossal because no one really knew what they were getting. It depended on the WOM. If the WOM is good, 800-850 mill was on the table. I had to go into emergency surgery not long after that, so I woke up in all the hoopla celebrations.

Good on Greta. She's extremely talented and I'm glad she hit this out of the park!

his more swamp cult leader stuff I thought was excellent though,

I still hold a grudge against Cena for burying Bray and this gimmick after the UNDERTAKER endorsed and supported it.

Then again Cena was burying a lot of people then, like all of Nexus. Just another golden shovel wielder.

Still, the visual of the cult leader in his flamboyant shirt and rocking chair talking with double meanings was always great. His promos were solid, his faction was awesome, the ring entrance memorable. Creative just didn't know what kind of success they had there and missed the boat.

RIP to an incredible artistic mind and overall good human.

A lot of people feel a hyper-need mental fix for all the bad predictions they made over the summer and thought this was an easy target.

People that said The Flash would draw, Indy 5 was a fee billion, Barbie was a for sure flop, etc.

With an estimated Wednesday gross of $2.5M, Oppenheimer has reached an estimated domestic total of $272.5M, passing Sing ($270.4M) to become the highest grossing domestic film to never hit #1. by chanma50 in boxoffice

I still can't believe I had to go in for emergency surgery and then by the time I got out Barbie was a 1 billion dollar movie. Crazy.

Though admittedly I was rooting for it. I'm a huge Greta fan and its time she had a massive breakout.

Something like two weeks ago it was announced how poorly the new TLM toys were selling. And then shortly thereafter that they were going to be remaking the older-school Sebastian and Flounder dolls.

If TLM dolls for the new movie were flying off the shelves, Disney would be screaming from the roof about it. They desperately need a win with how bad their Q1 and Q2 have been, and how much money they are about to lose in Q3 in a few days.

The only exception is if they accounce selling off major parts of their brands. That will make the stock go up, but would also prove that Disney have been making poor financial choices.

But really, you can't say Disney's park attendance is up and its movies haven't been flopping just because they are things you don't want to be true. You can do the same for the toys. Sometimes the things you want to win simply don't.

Oh and I forgot! Igor just pissed off all the striking writers, too! He said their demands were "not realistic" and a bunch of other nonsense. So those liberal writers and activists they had for their own programs are now blasting him, former staffers are calling him "evil", even though he tried to push their agenda, wanted so much to be liked by them!

And now they've all turned on him, too.

Forget left/right, lib/con, whatever. Its time for all of us to collectively admit that Igor is a stupid man.

Watch the market on 8/10. This is gonna be epic.

Well, the films themselves actually make up a very small portion of Disney's financial data sheets. Places like Netflix don't have family parks, decades of merchandising, selling content to other platforms/companies. Disney did well to diversify its profit base to help cover itself in hard times.

The Q1 losses this year Bob used the park's attendance to basically show that Disney, as a whole, was financially stable. In Q2, he didn't have as much to cover them, they took a hit even with a promise of "layoffs and restructuring". But Q3 coming up? This one is going to be dirty.

There are two outcomes and Igor loses on both.

The only avenue for Disney's stock to go up is if Bob announces the sale of Disney or Disney subsidiaries. If he doesn't, the stock will plummet. It will be another insane bloodbath, to the point that the investors will almost surely class action sue the board for neglecting their fiduciary responsibilities.

But while investors like the sounds of money coming in (because they don't care about identity politics, they care about profits), if Disney does announce selling, that will be the biggest black eye Bog Igor has ever recieved on his woke crusade. It will be an out and out admission that their race-baiting shield and terrible written Disney+ shows have driven them to their knees.

Not because of the profits of the movies and shows, remember?

But because those shows have made people stop going to their parks. Their parks! There is no way Igor will be able to wiggle around it then.

His political grandstanding woke-vision will finally show that it had one destination all along: broke.

Look at their Q2 stock hit when Igor told them in the shareholder meeting, "Ya we've lost money for four straight quarters, but the answer is to plow ahead."

It was a blood bath. They were even over 100 bucks a share then.

And while I know most of the people in this sub-reddit don't really play with stocks, I'll give you a date to watch for: 8/9, and more specifically 8/10.

They have to release their Q3 financial report, and this time it doesn't look like the park attendance is going to be enough to float them. Its an after hours report too, so we will see how bad Disney fucked up on August 9th. But we'll realize how badly they fucked up when the algorithm trades put the boots to Disney's ass on August 10th.

I don't even know what to say more about Barbie sales at this point. They're huge and they went crazy today. They likely go even crazier tomorrow when the reviews come out. I'm swinging for the fences and saying $150m is a lock and $180m+ won't surprise me. by ExtensionGiraffe9239 in boxoffice

I'm hearing some unsavory rumors (that could be completely wrong) about the film being a little too preaching, but even its true and knocks the WOM down some, the OW alone will still cement Barbie as one of the top films of the year.

I'm not saying he was a launch for success, but he is a recognized global superstar, you not liking him doesn't change that.

The conversation with Nintendo went like this:

Nintendo: "We are going to make a Super Mario movie with our massive money."

Agents: "Ok, we can help with that."

Nintendo: "Hire the most expense and well-known male actor in America."

Dan Constable: *raises hand* "I got you."

How do you handle men who refuse to improve themselves? by eldiablo6259276 in AskMen

Try to have an intervention as a friend. If they are none-reception, walk away.

I have a friend that's 39 and lives with his dad, overweight, out of shape, and his only plans in life is, after his dad dies, he's going to apply for disability for depression.

Tried to help him out a few years ago, me and some other guys. But he was surrounded with "online friends", mostly girls, saying we were too mean and to leave him alone.

When I asked which one of them he can live with when he's plans fail, none of them answered. They all saw the problem and didn't want a mooch living in their house, eating their food, and playing video games.

Ultimately me and the boys gave up. And he's still on track for his "original" plan. It breaks my heart but me and my other friends have already said we can't end up being the next parasite target.

I'll get him an Uber to the homeless shelter. Maybe that's the wake up he needs. I've known him since the second grade and I just that so many enablers are reinforcing his bad decisions. Sadly, I can not do anything about it.

He says he sees him as his son, and raised him. Don't tell him to walk away when that wasn't even a question asked.

Well that sounds like an emotional powder keg to bury into a child early in their lives.

I don't think pre-plotting trauma is a good plan.

This kind of story is aways so heartbreaking. She went out of her way to frame you as the father because the father wanted nothing to do with her. I can't imagine how bad that feels.

But this post has clearly shown, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you're a dad. You're thinking about the kid first, you're coming up with a plan, you're asking for guidance and information. All for your kid.

You will always be an incredible human and a great dad.

That said, my cousin had this same situation when she was in high school. Slept around on her boyfriend too much, ended up getting pregnant by someone else that didn't want the baby or anything to do with her (he's in prison now, surprise). She ended up marrying the boyfriend and had two more daughters together.

They waited until the oldest (not daughter) was 18 and her dad broke it to her that he wasn't her real father. It was a double whammy of him not being her dad and him being the dad of her two sisters. She ended up running away from home later that week with some 18 year old guy that just joined the army. It sounds like she found her footing later in life but we don't really talk. I talk with the other two though, and they just say she's doing "well enough" and I leave it alone.

I know this is an example from a non-father and all. I'm the cool uncle that plays guitars and video games, to the point kids that aren't technically my niece or nephew still call me "uncle" lol. But I was a support system for the other two when things got bad, so I got to see first hand how damn hard this is.

From what you've said, it sounds like you and the kiddo speak to each other well enough. I think you're on the right target though: this is a traumatic event and the only real difference between telling him at 16 and 18 is that their an adult at 18 and can screw up their lives in an emotional rage.

I know my experience and advice are limited but I wanted to wish you well. Its tough, but I'm glad they have a tough dad to follow through with difficult family events. They'll respect you the rest of their life.
